Acer's Aspire Predator gaming PC gets previewed
Look out, Alienware -- your fancy new Area-51 ALX has a carnivore hot on its trail. The Acer Aspire Predator, which was officially unveiled yesterday, has already found its way into the loving arms of Bit-Tech. Over there, folks were able to spend a good bit of time with the rig, snap a smattering of photos and dish out some initial impressions. There's some pretty interesting tidbits to be had (for example, every single part possesses its own bar code, the motherboard is a customized MSI nForce 780i SLI, etc.), so be sure and tap the read link to get their view on how this beast will likely shake out.

Derek Bradley @ May 22nd 2008 1:07PM
I agree, it looks awesome. Does it come in black?
Frankenstein Black @ May 22nd 2008 1:08PM
No, necessarily awesome! Only thing missing? More liquid!

Excellent computer its like a revolution in the world of technology...acer has pushed the limits and come out with such a model machine ....better the every computer apple or hp has ever produced the only one left in the challenge is acer and sony and thesr are the only 2 companies lift in the game all the rest are crappy...
Mabedan @ May 22nd 2008 1:00PM
good effort, but it's not stylish at all...
Patrick @ May 22nd 2008 2:05PM
*i* didn't low rank you because i have to agree. this thing is hideous. that's always been a sticking point for me. why can't more pc makers adopt the simple elegance of macs? (lifelong pc user here)
i mean really. it looks like a toy - at best. and an ugly one at that.
here's some things that come to mind when i see that:
ugly, fugly, monstrosity, virgin.
601210 @ May 22nd 2008 2:10PM
It isn't supposed to be stylish.
It's supposed to be bitchin'.
DiscoCat5 @ May 23rd 2008 1:54AM
yeah it doesnt look all that bad, but i can see how its looks will alienate its demographic (i suppose thats what they are trying to do) but i would get an alienwae pc before this.
phanbouy @ May 22nd 2008 1:00PM
cool it's transforming into a jet ski!
Vidit Bhargava @ May 22nd 2008 1:02PM
transformers inspired!!!
Flashpoint @ May 22nd 2008 1:02PM
It looks like Master Chief's shoulder pad.
BUT, if it can play Crysis in VERY HIGH - You will get no complaints from me.
Esat Dedezade @ May 22nd 2008 1:07PM
I can play crisis in very high.
Ladies, the queue begins here, there's enough of me for all of you!
Ladies?......
.....
....*Sigh*
Cal @ May 22nd 2008 1:46PM
It doesn't take anything special to run Crysis on very high, but when you start throwing in AA things get complicated...
Flashpoint @ May 22nd 2008 1:08PM
How about a computer capable of multi SLI - able to play Crysis in VERY HIGH with a LION'S HEAD as a cover for it (with appropriate venting of course)
How about a real shark head that opens up to reveal the computer with eyes that glow bright red during disk access.
Aaron Wanker @ May 22nd 2008 1:31PM
No... just no...
triforceOFcourage @ May 23rd 2008 2:56AM
Oh God, Acer hired you, didn't they?
Hellios @ May 22nd 2008 1:09PM
So the whole front cover lifts on top of the case, just so you can insert optical media/memory cards in it?
That's almost as practical as a one button mouse.
telepheedian @ May 22nd 2008 1:11PM
I see what you did there...
conor @ May 22nd 2008 2:48PM
I agree about the one mouse it needs to be changed *cough* *apple*
Chrisvanren @ May 22nd 2008 4:39PM
mighty mouse *cough*
Patriks7 @ May 22nd 2008 4:45PM
wtf is ur problem with a one button mouse? if im not mistaken with the mighty mouse if u press on the right side of it u get a right click
on the laptop u just tap 2 fingers on the trackpad
whats your problem?
i think its easier than any other mouse :|
Vic the One @ May 22nd 2008 5:29PM
@patriks7
I just wanted to point out that if a 2-button mouse isn't "easy" enough for someone, that person might not be qualified to own a computer. Not saying you're not, just saying that 1-button is an unnecessary amount of simplicity in my opinion.
Aaron Wanker @ May 22nd 2008 7:06PM
I like Macs and PC's, they both do well in their respective areas of expertise (mac for media, PC for dev and business), but I think macs are also pretty awesome for older people, mostly for the one mouse button thing.
Vidit Bhargava @ May 22nd 2008 1:18PM
well...looks wise they tried a lot but doent come at par with HP Blackbird or Voodoo or even alienware...hope it performs well
Flashpoint @ May 22nd 2008 1:21PM
you might have used the word "compare".
triforceOFcourage @ May 23rd 2008 5:42AM
HP Blackbird? A tower...on a stand?? 'Nuff said.
When design gets in the way of functionality is where it's come too far.

I knew John DeLorean would be back at some point.
Caleb @ May 22nd 2008 3:24PM
Now that you mention DeLorian... it does kind of look like that. I'd like to see this case in brushed stainless.
happy_penguin @ May 22nd 2008 11:06PM
You'd have to be tootin' coke to buy that thing. It's obnoxious.
Mike @ May 22nd 2008 1:21PM
This PC reminds me of this toy my 10 year son just HAD to have from Walmart. A little plastic ball with a magnet inside, so that when it comes in contact with a metal surface, the ball opens up Transformers style to reveal some little robotic figure. I told my son that he had me spending $13 for something that would amuse him for 3 days before finding it's way to the bottom of his toy bin. And I told him some guy in China, who sleeps on a straw mattress at night, got paid 50 cents a week to make that thing. 25 cents to make, sold for $13 dollars at Walmart, so my son could drool over it BECAUSE IT OPENS UP!
Much like this PC! *LOL*
Enjoy your gaming rig, Kids!
Dearold Dadthesap @ May 22nd 2008 1:35PM
And then your kid replied "So?" and you immediately went out with him and bought it.
Been there, done that.
Pochi @ May 22nd 2008 1:50PM
Lucky kid...
BerBar @ May 22nd 2008 1:26PM
I don't know if it's just me, but isn't that thing just mean ugly?
wrabbit @ May 22nd 2008 2:04PM
I totally agree.
I understand the idea behind making these kinds of PC's look crazy like that but I really wish they'd have versions of these in normal, clean looking, elegant cases - it would probably be cheaper to build anyway.
I built all my rigs for the past decade or so but if I had the money I would totally go for a pre-built gaming rig, but only if it didn't look like a transformer, or an alien's head or some other weird thing like that.
BigDaddyM @ May 22nd 2008 1:29PM
