Eizo pitches new FlexScan HD2452W monitor at gamers
Eizo's certainly no stranger to high-end monitors, and the company's now expanding its offerings yet again, this time with an LCD targeted specifically at gamers. Judging from the specs, however, the 24-inch FlexScan HD2452W should please just about anyone with the necessary money to spend, with it boasting a full WUXGA resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 450Cd/m2 brightness, and just about every port you could want, including two HDMI -- not to mention a 24p mode to make the most of those Blu-ray discs. About the only place it falls a bit short, it seems, is with the response rate, which clocks in at a hefty 16 ms. Look for this one to hit Japan sometime next month for the rough equivalent of $1,250.

16ms, only 1,000:1 contrast ratio... for $1,250?
I think my 22" ViewSonic has better features at like $200...
Bootes @ May 26th 2008 1:42PM
That's cause your Viewsonic is using a pos TN panel, is not 24", you didn't pay MSRP, and was probably closer to $300.
phanbouy @ May 22nd 2008 2:04PM
bootes, i got a 24" soyo M-PVA LCD for $300 at office depot
Ignatius @ May 22nd 2008 2:06PM
Actually, I didn't pay for it at all anyway.
However, the idea of charging someone over a thousand dollars for a 24" monitor with weak-ass specs is ludicrous.
OneLove @ May 22nd 2008 4:05PM
Thats the "have more money than sense, early adopter" price. Why would i give up my 42 inch plasma? COD4 never looked better.
i.c. weiner @ May 22nd 2008 4:35PM
@onelove
You know that this is for computers and not t.v. watching, right?
BobTurbo @ May 22nd 2008 11:28PM
I wouldn't go near a viewsonic monitor with a ten foot pole.
phanbouy @ May 22nd 2008 2:03PM
cool! 500% price premium for..uh..."gamers".
Hellios @ May 22nd 2008 2:03PM
No gamer is going to buy a screen with 16ms response time. Or anybody that wanted to watch movies on it.
James Cameron @ May 22nd 2008 3:42PM
Even 2ms or 6ms still crap on LCD screen on fast moving games.
XenoX101 @ May 23rd 2008 4:56AM
What? There's no such thing as a genuine 2ms screen. Stop talking silly.
12ms is 83 fps, that is plenty for any game or movie. (You only need 80 fps, any more and it's not visible to the eye).
16ms is 62 fps, slightly unacceptable.
I don't see what logic they've followed in releasing this monitor with such a response rate though, particularly at the market they're aiming at.
aardvark sandwich @ May 22nd 2008 2:04PM
This one certainly wont give up the ghost. It will grab it and hold on for dear life.
Flashpoint @ May 22nd 2008 2:19PM
for $1250 I could buy an entire computer - with the ability to run CRYSIS - in LOW SETTINGS and a 17 inch monitor.
loujob @ May 22nd 2008 2:19PM
Mmmmmmmm. Do you smell that? Chapter 11
Flashpoint @ May 22nd 2008 2:26PM
LOL
teej @ May 23rd 2008 12:23PM
Eizo will not go chapter 11 for a very long time. if you look beyond this monitor, they are very successful.
Musouka @ May 22nd 2008 2:21PM
So, given the high response time, they are going S-IPS with this one.
loujob @ May 22nd 2008 2:34PM
No, they are going chapter 11 with this one
Sys-X @ May 22nd 2008 2:51PM
16 ms and I stopped reading besides the price of that monster ^^
Shinigami @ May 22nd 2008 2:58PM
Did they cut financing of the marketing division? Because, you know, telling everyone you've got a 24-incher with 1000:1 contrast, 16ms response time and 450Cd/m2 brightness, which costs $1200 is like...
um...
SUICIDE?! In business that is. They're telling the world that their superior-to-none (worse than anything at this price point) monitor is sold at the price of a much better (and larger) 30-inch monitor (Dell 3007WFP-HC) and hoping their premium-price-for-nothing monitor will sell? I hope people are not dumb enough to buy it...
Watson @ May 22nd 2008 3:14PM
I like how they don't mention one of the most important specs, the viewing angle. Viewing angles (if accurate) will tell you the type of panel used. For a stagger $1250 price tag, I'd assume they are using high end panel type S-IPS or other similar form of it, which offers superior color reproduction compared to other panels types. However, if this is just some form of P-MVA or S-PVA they're out of their mind because any other ~$600 24" monitor will likely to have a *VA panel type.
For those wanting to some background information on the differences in LCD panels types, you can check out this link. http://www.pureoverclock.com/article641-3.html
nathan.wong @ May 22nd 2008 3:26PM
16ms response time does not make a gaming monitor. Even 8ms is too slow sometimes.
nathan.wong @ May 22nd 2008 3:29PM
This is most likely a high end monitor where all the colors and contrast are supposed to be perfect. This is the type of monitor that professionals rely upon in order to make a living. The colors need to match the output and many times the monitors you buy at Costco or some other store don't quite match up even with calibration. That's where the $1250 professional monitor comes in.
Ethan @ May 22nd 2008 5:32PM
So why would you market it towards gamers?
nathan.wong @ May 23rd 2008 2:50PM
I was wondering why they were marketing this towards gamers myself with the lousy 16ms response time.
JonV @ May 22nd 2008 3:39PM
or you could get a 24' samsung 1080p monitor with 1 hdmi port, built in speakers, dvi port, vga port and audio in / out ports, with a 10,000:1 contrast with a refresh rate of 5ms..for just $499 at circuit city. so i guess with the above monitor you would get 9,000 less contrast ratio, 11 ms of less response time but with the addition of an extra hdmi port for only $750 more. and its the widely known Eizo brand too :) Happy shopping
Raymond @ May 22nd 2008 5:41PM
Before you come and try showing that you know about specs, how about do some research.
Are you aware that those "10,000:1" contrast are referring to so-called "Dynamic Contrast"?
And some looks fast response time is referring only to Grey-to-Grey?
Or whether you know what's the difference between TN Panels and S-IPS or H-IPS panels?
As for TN Panels vs. IPS Panels, you don't even have to research them.
Just recline a bit in your seat and look at the screen and you'll see the difference.
James Cameron @ May 22nd 2008 3:40PM
Well, at least it came down from $2000.
dbcooper @ May 22nd 2008 6:50PM
Spec is 6ms G2G as you would expect for an S-PVA with overdrive circuit. Also has the noise reduction/de-interlacing etc circuitry from the previous HD24 models. Should be a very nice monitor for watching video and general use. If the retail price is ~ 800euro, then I will check it out.

LVG @ May 22nd 2008 10:52PM
24P PLAYBACK EVERYONE!! You're missing the point!
Can't wait.
Oinquer @ May 23rd 2008 10:02AM
sorry to tell you...but EIZO with 800:1 constrast is way nicer then any asus or samsung with 3000:1....
get a eizo and someother monitor together and compare...
ill admit its expensive...but hell..theyre the best monitors in market, period.
the 16ms is to high for gaming....still when we get full specs we will see if this 16ms its on/off time or grey to grey....cause 90% LCD's makers do grey to grey on the ms not on/off.
Stellist @ May 25th 2008 11:10PM
ASUS or SAMSUNG's contrast 3000:1 is not genuine contrast. it's call "dynamic contrast" and this is almost fake.
funkist @ Jun 13th 2008 6:28PM
I love all the naysaying skinny wallet'd 15yos here. If you haven't seen or owned an Eizo, then you just don't know what quality and performance are.
Eizo's control circuitry is "best-in-class." What does this mean? Well, they use the same LCD panels that Samsung uses in many cases, but because of Eizo's control circuitry the performance is nothing less than perfect. No chroma ghosting on the edges, no color shifting across the screen, no bright pixel lines or backlight halos around the edges - just a beautifully consistent edge to edge image.
Additionally, Eizo is one company that won't have exagerated specs and they include a standard 5 year warranty on every display. That's confidence.
Parisgent @ Jul 10th 2008 5:23AM
I guess all by now have realized that 16s is the response time for screen start. The response time (gray to gray) actually is 6ms. The reviewer had it wrong.
