AMP offers converted all-electric Saturn Sky in limited run
If you've been bored by your limited all-electric vehicle choices, we've got just the thing for you. After a year of development, Advanced Mechanical Products (or AMP) is taking orders for a limited run of 300 converted Saturn Sky Roadsters, which will be 100 percent electric. The cars can travel roughly 150 miles on a single charge, go 0 to 60 in under six seconds, and can reach a top speed of 90 MPH. The cost of the conversion and vehicle comes to around $50,000, making this one of the more affordable high-performance options around. The cars are expected to ship to buyers in 2009, so you'd better get on that list quick.

I was pretty stoked about this car until it was stated that the ZENN has a governed top speed of 25 MPH and that it can only legally drive on roads with a 35mph. I didn't even get to the range of this thing since I can only think of one 35 MPH stretch in my entire county, and its less than a mile long.
It's not that something like this is not viable, it just doesn't work for guys like me that have a greater than 100 mile round trip comute at mostly freeway speeds.
I could move closer to work in theory. But the city I work in is super crappy, and I'd hate living there. I guess, sometimes our only option is to get screwed over royally by Big Oil.
I just went to these guy's website ampmotorworks.com and I'm in love. 150 miles on a charge! the average american only drives 30 to 40 miles per day... on the website it says it takes about 3 hrs for a full charge and when you math it out money-wise it comes to about 5 cents a mile, or 125 mpg equivilancy. I want one ...
Plus its not even about the economics of it, it makes a statment driving this car. I think Amp Motor Works is really going to shake things up. Pricing it at about half of a tesla car makes it less Tom Cruise and more Joe Everyman. With everyone switching green lately i think this car will do really hit the ground running
