iriver's KKClay Mplayer ads make even the toughest toddlers cry
Is it us or does iriver's new Mplayer advertising campaign send the wrong message? "Find Pluto and you have found my murderer!" Ceremonial aftermath pictured after the break.
Warning: The KKClay will get you too.

Ring around the mickey mouse? O K. Disturbing.
Rob Bourne @ May 23rd 2008 8:44AM
Is this for real?
KKClay sounds very similar to KKK and all (but one) of the figurines are white...
Rob Bourne @ May 23rd 2008 8:45AM
doh, ignore me, KKClay is your name for them, right?
I'm tired.
cryptocarnivore @ May 23rd 2008 8:53AM

*LOL*

i really hate when people throw out that everything is racism, but really, they name a product called KKClay that when pronounced is probably as close to KKK as humanly possible, and then add a picture with 5 white figures (one that looks to be cracking its nuckles) and one brownish figure. Who the f*** thought up this marketing campaign?
Fragmit @ May 23rd 2008 9:58AM
I guess it's a good thing then that the product is called MPlayer and not KKClay? I think engadget was using "KKClay" as a joke.
superfresh @ May 23rd 2008 9:58AM
I don't even know where to begin addressing your comment. I can only pray that you're a troll.
nguyen21 @ May 23rd 2008 10:19AM
Apparently the cingular guy joined a gang after the switch to AT&T
Dspeed @ May 23rd 2008 10:38AM
The figure second from the right in the top picture is totally grabbing some ass.
Xepol @ May 23rd 2008 10:57AM
glad I am not the only one who noticed that.
Since it also has its arm around the figure to its left, doesn't that make the clay figure 2nd from the right the real player here?
electronicat @ May 23rd 2008 6:20PM
He's just "clay for pay."
Jamie @ May 23rd 2008 11:33AM
First, they gave us 'The Grudge' and I'm sure the japanese are behind this design as well.
Good job, Japan! You have succeeded in creeping out us Americans again.
Meowwwwwwwwwwww.
escjtech @ May 23rd 2008 12:18PM
This is crazy, did they have a $20 budget for this campaign?
weakdayrock @ May 23rd 2008 12:28PM
I love when a fairly large company's advertising firm ( or in-house designers ) use a $5 stock photo for their ad campaign: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/who/people_specific_attributes/age_groups/3537496_team.php?id=3537496
WD40 @ May 23rd 2008 12:49PM
nah, they were creative enough to change the color of the guy that's not part of the KKClay
ZeroCorpse @ May 23rd 2008 12:46PM
Countdown to Disney suing them for using the easily-recognized famous mouse's head-shape they use on all their own electronics. . .
J-2 @ May 24th 2008 12:28AM
Actually, I think this was designed to resemble the famed Mickey Mouse ears. When you click through, you see the Disney logo on the Mplayers in the ads. You can actually see it on the pictures in the Engadget post as well, but the click-through versions are larger, and thus, the logo is more apparent.
Wait, I just got it: Mplayer = Mickey(mouse)Player
or some strange variation thereof. It's official: these people are loopy...
paakofi @ May 23rd 2008 1:04PM
what have i done?! some people now think the thing is actually called KKClay
crow610 @ May 23rd 2008 1:14PM
OHHHHNOOOOOO
HE'S GONNA BE MEAN TO MEEEEEE!
marco polo @ May 23rd 2008 1:22PM
Uhhh... United Colors of Benetton anyone? Who's working at this company, 15 year olds?
Bruce @ May 23rd 2008 2:48PM
Exactly what I thought. Something like this:

Ray @ May 23rd 2008 2:29PM
do they think this shit is funny? fuckin white people
Californian @ May 23rd 2008 3:26PM
Oh I thought it was actually called the KKClay too. haha I'm stupid.
Jeremy W @ May 24th 2008 1:18AM
I did too, it's a really poorly-worded title.
Matthew C @ May 24th 2008 1:20AM
I'm confused ... uh what is the KKClay ... and why does that thing look like a Mickey mouse ... and who do they expect to buy it?
Des @ May 25th 2008 6:17AM
KKClay ?? WTF engadget?
It says the freaking united colours of MPLAYER.
Why even go there? Its not like the "non-white" character looks like he is in any danger or anything, or that the others have lynching ropes or anything.
Besides I hope in todays world toddlers wont know about the KKK
