Nokia promises to let N-Gage users transfer games
Well, that didn't take long. Just as the mini-brouhaha over N-Gage games being tied to handsets was starting to percolate, Nokia has now come out and said that users will be able to take their games with them to a new handset after all, eventually. According to Nokia communications manager Oskar Södergren, some "miscommunication" on Nokia's part is apparently to blame for users being left up in the air on the matter, something that apparently led to some "mixed messages" being passed around inside Nokia as well. He went on to add that Nokia has in fact "been working on a way for this to work since the relaunch, but it is taking some time for everything to fall into place."

They make some gangstaa phones! And are undoubtedly number 1 for a reason. I have the N95, have had it for a year now and no complaints, absolutely love the multimedia computer/phone.
But they REALLY REALLY need to come up with the iphone killer.
If any company can do it, it's gotta be Nokia!

"been working on a way for this to work since the relaunch, but it is taking some time for everything to fall into place."
lol. Ngage has been death for years why do they want to keep beating a dead horse?
L @ May 23rd 2008 1:17PM
You...fail. Miserable.
Flashpoint @ May 23rd 2008 1:15PM
I don't think anything nGage has is gonna make it viable.
The best option, as usual, is to make the phone able to emulate NES, Genesis and Turbo Graphix 16 - then allow ROM downloads.
L @ May 23rd 2008 1:21PM
In all honesty - NES games compared to NGage games?
Jamesology @ May 23rd 2008 1:21PM
i agree!
I don't know anyone who uses this phone. add emu then maybe i will consider
ninjatales @ May 23rd 2008 1:38PM
But there already exists many NES, SNes, Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, etc emulators for all S60 3rd Edition phones.
Flashpoint @ May 23rd 2008 1:38PM
NES games blow ngage's AWAY. Emulators for NES games are perfect because NES had a huge library of games and many of them were gems. Even Genesis had good titles.
Some of the software on NES and Genesis completely blow away todays games in terms of gameplay.

Ngage? Who wants Ngage?
I want "Nokia comes with music" downloaded tracks to be transferable to my iPod!!! xD
Because I don't know a single Nokia that comes with 32gb storage (at least) and has audio quality on par with iPods.
You know, we europeans don't have an alternative to good old iPods because others are ugly, brick-sized or have little storage.
BowserUSC @ May 23rd 2008 2:08PM
Isn't the iPod's audio quality awful compared to other devices.
Engadgetluvsappl @ May 23rd 2008 2:21PM
Hi. Many people say that the N91 (a phone over 2 years old) is still much better than any iPod available.
By the way, when the N96 comes out, buy a 32GB micro SD and then you'll have 48GBs.
Yahhh trick yahhh!
Shinigami @ May 23rd 2008 2:35PM
1. Where did you hear about N96 16gb edition?
2. Where did you hear it could create its music library after scanning both internal and external music? The last time I've heard about it, SE had best build-in music player in phones, not Nokia.
3. The last time I heard about it, N91 had 3 gb internal storage on a small HDD, I don't want this kind of storage because it'll die in a few months. I really love to drop my phones around on the floor and on the ground.
4. The last time I heard about it, N91 had best sound quality (read this carefully) for a cell phone. And the last time I heard about it, no music phone could compare to iPod's sound quality.
Is my information incorrect?
Oh, by the way, I'm not using bundled headphones, I use Koss Porta Pro and Sennheizer HD 215. Both sound great, sound quality on iPod is similar to build-in sound but X-Fi still sounds better on 7 speakers. Thats my personal opinion.
Also I've heard that Sony players sound good but they only have up to 16 gb of storage (and I have 23 gb of music, can't make it smaller). I've also heard good words about Creative Zen 32gb but it can't read a SD card properly, besides its not sold in my country.
I've heard that Cowon had great quality of sound, but couldn't find a suitable player - its either a HUGE PMP or a small but short on storage mp3. They don't understand there are still people with large music library that only want MUSIC, not those huge screens, not those animated menus, just a mini-usb, 80gb storage, ability to see your player as an external HDD and a small case, like iPod's.
Did I mention you could enable "Hard Disk" mode on iPod 5G? No idea about Classic, should be possible. Not possible for Touch and iPhone though.
And yes, the last time I listened, there was a huge difference in sound quality between a Nokia cell phone and an iPod. Don't get me wrong, I used different players before Apple, but all failed compared to the iPod. Yes, it sounds better than most other devices I had pleasure to work with. Doesn't have radio build-in, doesn't support recording but best music-only player I've had to this moment.
And I don't want to leave iTunes, which keeps my music organized :)
So I'm waiting a similar to Comes with Music program from Apple (all-you-can-eat type subscription for 1 year after you buy the device, transferable to the next similar device when you change it, can be kept after the year ends).
Engadgetluvsappl @ May 23rd 2008 2:48PM
Are you sure you're European? We Europeans usually call 'cellphones' mobile phones... Atleast in the UK.
1)The standard N96 comes with 16GB built in.
2)My N95 8GB searches the internal memory and the mass memory, why wouldn't the N96? IMO, SE have probably the worst music phones, people just think they're good because of that silly walkman branding.
3)N91 8GB has, you guessed it, 8GBs of storage.
4)No, the N91 doesn't have the best music quality in a phone. There's some Samsung that claims that title, I believe. However, many people have said that the N91 beats the iPods in certain areas of music playback, off the top of my head I can't think of examples for this, though.

We, Ukrainians, call mobile phones "phones" or "bricks" in case of Nokia N95, N96 and alike :)
1. Standard N96 with 16gb? Thats nice. Thanks for info. Still not enough for me though.
2. N95 8gb doesn't have a memory card slot, right? So its hard to say if N96 will search both and make a single playlist out of both internal and external memory.
3. Nokia N91 8Gb model has, you guessed it, the 8Gb in the name.
Shinigami @ May 23rd 2008 3:05PM
Sorry guys, my firefox browser just went crazy and reloads the page constantly so I couldn't properly reply.
In any case, continuation:
Original N91 has 4gb memory, not 8gb. 8gb was introduced later.

You can find it in the end of page. Wow 3 years passed since N91...
4. I've heard of that samsung, but it was extremely expensive. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
Engadgetluvsappl @ May 23rd 2008 3:12PM
Well, tell me where you can find a phone that's as feature-packed as the N95 but is smaller and lighter at the same time....
The N95 8GB has about 130MB internal memory and then there's a seperate chip for the 8GB. It searches both drives for music, it's been like that forever.
Indeed, the Samsung is pretty expensive which is even more reason besides the fact that it's a Samsung NOT to buy it.
Stick to your iPod if all you're looking for is music but let me leave you with a little message from Nokia:
"MP3 players can't make a call but oh baby, you've got it all."
Quito @ May 23rd 2008 3:16PM
Isn't "miscommunication" Nokia-speak for reversing their position but not admitting to it?
Usually, a EULA is the end result of senior management decisions and careful wording by corporate lawyers. Hard to imagine a company the size of Nokia accidentally screwing up such an important document, but then again they are the same people that brought us the original N-Gage, and just think of how much time and money was blown on that one.

Damn, that phone is thick! I guess I'll stick with my N82.
duxxyuk @ May 26th 2008 3:28AM
Kudos to Nokia for clearing that one up...
I still think that games beyond tetris on a portable are not brilliant experiences. If they (Nokia et al) put an analogue joystick or a laptop nipple (à la IBM laptop) that might change..
