Canon EOS 5D Mark II in November?

Update: Barry Pruett from the book's Wiley publishing house says that the whole thing was just a mistake made by a newbie editor who created an internal "slot" for the expected followup to Charlotte's Canon 5D Digital Field Guide. Unfortunately, this standard practice went awry when she accidentally posted the title into the public database which feeds sites like Amazon. Oops.

wouldn't they at least announce it before november-ish? maybe more like july-ish or august-ish?
Mr.Gadget Australia @ May 26th 2008 1:39AM
Oh please be true...I so need to upgrade my 350D to a full-frame!
alex @ May 26th 2008 3:05AM
like most of us desiring to get full frame, the 5dMKII is the holy grail.
but there are still a lot of people saying that the current 5d is a great camera (which im sure it is) and that it isnt really worth waiting for an upgrade if you have a need for it now.
i just want to see what "gotta have it" features the mkII will really have, if i'm not impressed, i'll be able to pick up a pair of gently used 5d's cheap
waiownsyou @ May 26th 2008 3:16AM
Oh please tell us more of your life, Alex.

Wai - Alex's comments were pertinent to the topic at hand.
Alex - I agree. I'm pretty close to buying the 5D, but only because I can't be definite when the MkII comes out. The 5D is truly a formidable camera in it's own right, but those who can wait for the purchase should - even if just to see what new features are included that might help the shooting go quicker, easier, and better.
Live-view's a definite, better sensor's a definite, sensor cleaning's a definite, perhaps some weather sealing to top it off? But will any of these and the unannounced features be worth a ~$1500+ premium over the old model? Canon, give us some info, even just a little teaser!

Barry Pruett, the publisher at Wiley, has explained that it was a mistake by a new employee. The title is just a placeholder. Nothing more.

I wont be able to afford a 5D Mark II. Does anyone know if when there is be a successor to the 40D?
alex @ May 26th 2008 2:54AM
the 40d was released months ago. if you want its successor, wait 2-3 years and then buy a new camera for the same price you would pay now.
AlphaTeam @ May 26th 2008 3:29AM
I guess I'll be waiting a bit to upgrading my 20D.
Hguh @ May 26th 2008 4:50AM
you guys have too much money
vincent @ May 26th 2008 6:46AM
HalfJokey, if you can't afford the Mark II, you should condier the Mark I.
Watch out for summer sale clearance at decent prices or check eBay for nearly new ones.
Lots of people will upgrade no matter what and there will be lots of opps to grab a very bice Mark I, ...like mine which is only 6 month old and has hardly been used!
Pablo @ May 26th 2008 7:23AM
I noticed that the price for the 5D on amazon has dropped to 1899, about 200 less than it was a month ago. Maybe Canon is trying to off load their existing stock in preparation for the Mark II...
At any rate, with all the hoopla, if it does come out in November you probably won't be able to get one for a reasonable price until March.
Daley @ May 26th 2008 8:23AM
Umm... it dropped $300 because Canon is offering instant rebates until July.
curt @ May 26th 2008 11:10AM
If you want to see this camera in person, then come to the Photokina Show in Cologne Germany Sept 23-28 as this is more then likely when they will release it.
Nick @ May 26th 2008 1:06PM
The 5D is a fantastic camera.
I remember way back in mid 2006 when I bought mine, I thought about waiting because there was rumors that a updated version of the 5D was gonna be coming out soon so the price on the original 5D would drop.
Personally, If I was still in the market for a full frame DSLR, I would just wait for the Mark II to drop and get the original 5D at the inevitable lower price.
TranceMist @ May 26th 2008 5:42PM
Ha! Nice backpedaling by the publisher. What else could he say?
I just bought a 5D, knowing that a mk II will likely be announced in September (and probably out in November).
I did a detailed writeup on my analysis and decision to buy it now:

Thanks for the article. I've been agonizing over this for a long time. You just tipped the scales for me.

Yeah, and I put an order in for Sal Soghoian's book "Applescript 1-2-3"
in October 2003 for this book by the father of Applescript.
I'm still waiting for it!
Though according to the co-author, it should be out in June!
I hope Canon is a tad bit faster. So Nikon can feel the pressure to come out with a more affordable full-frame camera to compete.

Very informative forum. I have a rebel XTi and I bought that because I didnt know if I wanted to pursue photography. Now that I am going full force I need a full frame DSLR. I have the money for it because I am making a few extra since I'm Iraq currently. November is too long to wait but yall have swayed me and given me hope.
CANON HURRY UP STOP ACTING LIKE APPLEl.

I have a 5D They might as well remove the lousey faded crappy LCD viewer on the back. The photos are nice, but good look trying to get an idea from the viewfinder. I would imagine I am not the only one with a 5D asking themselves why the photos on the screen look so faded.
