New DS Lite colors all but confirmed by Nintendo
Chicks and dudes, get ready for extremely spicy, delicious, and stimulating news. Remember those new DS Lite colors we mentioned a few days ago? Apparently Nintendo has all but confirmed the forthcoming arrival of cool ice, hot red, and lime green -- at least in Europe. According to DS Fanboy, the big N has started circulating an e-teaser with the new paint jobs, which pretty much puts to rest any chance that this was just some over-eager Photoshopper's weekend art project. The landing date of June 13th seems to be holding as well, but what we really want to know is when we can see some of these provocative color schemes Stateside. Well Nintendo?

AlekZander @ May 26th 2008 9:53PM
Yeah, for like a wiik, then the Wii was back on top. (Sorry for the pun, couldn't wii-sist)
deyanimay @ May 26th 2008 9:56PM
the point is that handhelds are still selling good, i'm not trying to say that psp is the best console or even best handheld, i'm just stating the facts.
ugh @ May 26th 2008 9:57PM
I do wish that they would make a new handheld... DS is getting old! WHERE IS MY DS ADVANCE???
deyanimay @ May 26th 2008 10:00PM
where is psp 2, seriously sony can't you make up more unique names for your next consoles.
Plothole @ May 26th 2008 10:28PM
"Yeah, for like a wiik, then the Wii was back on top."
I hate to ruin your pun-fun, but the DS actually leads the Wii in sales.

According to latest figures by Media Create, PSP has been number one for the last few weeks in Japan, with the Wii not even coming close.
Hate to break assumptions and old traditions, but PSP is selling extremely well with no real close challengers (in Japan).
...which I think it deserves, frankly. It's a fine sounding audio specimen, video player and hell, it even plays games! :)
Seriously I think they have done some good work with PSP. Love the DS, too. No real time spent with any of the others.
jbm0592 @ May 26th 2008 11:24PM
you like how i don't really care which one is selling better. The DS lite still kicks ass
gabe @ May 26th 2008 11:37PM
anyone want to by my useless modded psp slim? Please PM me.
i love the DS lite :) playing the game called crossword DS now
ssuk @ May 27th 2008 3:17AM
Yeah, and they still sell them for the same RRP (£99.99) as they did back in March 2005. We love you too, Nintendo.
Seth @ May 26th 2008 10:10PM
If only Nintendo would be able to keep Wii's and WiiFit's in stock, then life would be good. But, nope, new DS's with color! Hooray!
Mike @ May 26th 2008 11:39PM
They won't confirm it, cause then the fact that their Wii SKU numbers are expiring in 90 days at a major retailer will hint to the fact that we're gonna get all of those colors available for the Wii too :)
JoN @ May 27th 2008 1:29AM
I saw that too Mike - crazyness... i thought it might be a typo
Plothole @ May 26th 2008 10:21PM
*Sigh* Aas tempting as "cool ice" sounds to me, I already have a DS lite.
aMac @ May 26th 2008 10:41PM
I honestly don't know what I'd want from a DS upgrade.
The DS Phat -> DS Lite transition's selling point, much like the GBA -> GBA-SP,was really the screen. Yes the form factor was nicer, but honestly I don't know how you'd improve the screen any more.
I'd rather have a longer battery than a bigger screen, and I already find the Lite a nice size. Sure some people complain about the d-pad but what's worth paying for a new item?
PCIV @ May 26th 2008 10:43PM
Maybe having your old DS die works. My triggers and down are both dead. Now... to figure out a way to buy and refund a different colour...
El Taco @ May 26th 2008 10:54PM
What are you saying?
The old DS had the same screen as the DS lite, and the same as these will. The only difference is the DS lite has a brighter screen and more backlight settings.
Same with the GBA and GBA:SP. Same screen, but the SP had backlighting.
aMac @ May 26th 2008 10:58PM
The FAR superior backlighting in both the DS lite and the GBS-SP are absolutely the best features of the new models. Heck the GBA didn't even have a backlight (or front-light).
There is no comparison in quality if you have the two models side by side. Looking at my DS Phat's screen makes me wonder how I coped before the Lite came along.

------------
Having the screen visible in direct sunlight would be a good start! (PSP too)
I also liked the size and feel of the dpad and shoulder buttons in the original DS. Everything else was pretty much a huge improvement in the DS Lite.
Lots of people also want WPA encryption to be supported in an upgrade, which we won't get for technical reasons as I understand it. Which is a shame.
Oh, lime green FTW.
aMac @ May 26th 2008 11:11PM
Oh true, WPA wireless would be fantastic and I fully support this addition

Not sure if you're joking or not, but the DS Lite's screen is considered different to the original DS (aka phat) precisely because it is different. The brighter screen is not the same one "pumped up" to look brighter; it's actually a different part (apologies if I misunderstand what you are saying here).
Initial Game Boy Advance SP models had a front-lit screen. The follow-up Game Boy Advance SP (model AGS-101) had the far more brilliant backlit screen which is comparable to DS Lite's current screen in 'vividness', IMO.
Byrdman @ May 26th 2008 11:06PM
I definately saw the red one in a target in syracuse yesterday along with a couple of other of those colors
Jenny @ May 26th 2008 11:33PM
The red one has been out, in a package deal. I bought one at Target, but the back is black. Perhaps this 'new' red one will be red on the back too.
zee @ May 26th 2008 11:30PM
The real question is when the Wii and Wiimotes will be available in these colors. I smell color coordination...

this is a cheap alternative to colorware fa sho
ChrisG @ May 27th 2008 12:13AM
I'm guessing this is Nintendo's response to all of the new PSP colorways. I like it, but I still love the classic white DS.
poematik14 @ May 27th 2008 12:22AM
The red looks pretty good.
Edemir @ May 28th 2008 12:55AM
As a psp owner I have nothing to comment :)

Benny @ May 27th 2008 7:03AM
Seriously guys, these colours have been on Nintendo's own website for almost a week. Of course they've been confirmed!

I imported the cool ice color (which is called ice blue in Japan) from Japan about a year ago. I love having a color no one else around me has and now other people will have it too. How lame!
