Rock Band Stage Kit smoke machine and strobe light in pictures
GameStop leaked the existence of the $100 Rock Band Stage Kit back in January, and it's updated the listing with the first pictures we've seen of the included smoke machine and strobe light. The smoke machine looks fairly ordinary, but the light features controls so Rock Band vocalists can apparently blind themselves while making selections. The kit's listed with a ship date of August 15, but who knows if that's accurate -- and considering you can pick up a real fogger and strobe light sufficient to glam out your living room for all of $50, we're not exactly waiting on pins and needles.[Via Xbox 360 Fanboy]

All I can ask is why?
they can just place the label "Rock Band" and double the price.
ironic you should say that though, giving your name...
At least expensive Apple products bring value to the consumer.
I just don't really get this... maybe for some big parties, but 9 out of 10 of these won't be used more than once.

Because this is obviously the key element in getting laid - constantly - by beautiful women.
seriously if fake instruments wasn't enough, why fake special effects? Are you really going to go play on stage and be like "Oh look at me and my skills and plastic fog machine!". haha
well i agree with you a bit but i still think they are real effects. not fake.
uhh, real concerts do use fog machines and strobe lights. Not this small, per se, but functional nonetheless.
Oh lord.
Don't you think this is getting out of hand now?
What's getting out of hand is that XB360 controller with a strobe light on it. How can you play games when blind?
As a firefighter, I'm so looking forward to the increased alarm calls resulting from 14 year old Betty Bonehad and her cheezy smoke machine you have no idea.
What's the associated fire risk with smoke machines?
Not exactly a fire risk, but if used in vast quantities, the smoke can set off a smoke detector.
It takes a lot though, this low quality machine might not do it. Naughty HS kids in a theatre class snuck the fog machine into the catwalk, taped the button down, and ran. During final exams.
There's not much fire risk with these - the solution gets heated in the unit and the fog is produced. It can be fairly copious too. We use them for training and can fill a house pretty effectively. It can reduce visibility well but it doesn't really act much like the kind of smoke you get in a fire.
What they can do is set off smoke detectors pretty effectively. Also, I've seen many cases where kids (15-18 year olds in the Explorer Scouts program) have had asthma problems with them. The fog and solution don't actually seem to cause a problem medically, but its easy to get caught up in the expectation of the smoke causing a problem -- and for many asthmatics that's enough to set them off.
Leave Betty Bonehead alone! She's a human!

retard... fog machines wont set off smoke detectors... its not real smoke!
i have a real fog machine and a real smoke detecter and it never goes off. infact every house i have taken the game and fog to have smoke detectors and none of them are set off either.
are you a firefighter in the land of butterflies and rainbows and firetrucks where everyone smiles and there is no violence... lol come on dude.
How would i see the screen if the fogs clouding my vision .
I would just get the whole Guitar Hero: On Tour package even if i get an extra guitar .
At least i get higher qulity fake instruments . :)
Now all we need is Rock Band Hookers & Blow for that authentic experience!
Heroine Hero forever
Don't forget the vomit. Need lots and lots of vomit too. Or at least the smell.
^^^^^ ahahahahah
Heroin Hero: Nikki Sixx
rockband, now with herpes
Reader: You watch TV too?!?!?!?!
Ok, now its over the top... whats next? Rock Band inflatable crowd? Rock Band Stage Barricades ?
Honestly I like the game (I suck at it) but leave it at that.. a game..
Im sure its coming, Rock Band Tours (as in people playing at clubs).. you wait...
Clearly you have not been to a Rockband party. This would be fun.
will this auctaly make fog in the living room, or just on the tv?
(facepalm)
I think that's the only response adequate enough to convey the dept of WTF that this question plumbs.
yeah... People need to learn to read, or at least look at the picture
i'm waiting for rockband groupie kit.
@Glen - it looks like a fairly standard smoke machine to me, these smaller units are rentable at party stores. They make a pretty good thick haze - not so much smoke as fog. There is no layering because the fluid used and the out put of the machine are essentially room temperature.
They've had pictures of this already at my local gamestop for over a month.
I think it'll be pretty cool, add to the ambience of my surround sound and 61" HDTV. Price is a bit much though.
I guess it's worth $50 extra for the auto-synchronization with the music. I can see bars buying these up, even if they just use them for "Karaoke with effects". I'm sure there's a market for these, but I dunno how big it is at that price point. For $30, I'd be game.
Is the guy playing the strobe light have the goal of giving himself a seizure? Obviously, he will have the light directed directly at his eyes.
what about a ps3 version? is this kit 360 exclusive?
When I first heard this announced I thought it was a joke, can't believe it's real.
We've had these at our local Gamestop for some time now... how this is new, I have no idea.
And this is really damn ridiculous. Only an idiot would buy this for $100... but I suppose there is a market for idiots.
You suppose there is a market for idiots?

Oh. Wait. Right.
That stuff sets off smoke alarms?
Yes., it does -- depending on the kind of smoke detector. I've been to several calls, some in fairly big venues like the local Middle school gym during a dance, where the smokes were set up by these kinds of smoke machines.
What's worse than this product is the thought that someone will actually buy it.
i work at the company that conceived of, designed and are manufacturing this kit. it's mildly amusing.
I need an address, business hours, and a building layout - preferably the original blueprints.
why do you need those things, tom? do you want to come down and give me a big hug?
Shilo will kick ur ass!
This has gone way to far...
Yeah ...
I saw these for sale at the Gamestop closest to me (Ogden, UT) about 2 weeks ago.
So I Don't think the August 15th ship date is accurate
No, all you dudes claiming it's in your stores have likely been seeing the mock-up boxes, which we've had in NYC for months as well. The product isn't out yet. You didn't even bother wondering why the box you saw was so small?
I could be wrong, so feel free to come humiliate me in this thread if you can post a picture of the device for sale (not simply the mock-up box), but I ain't seein' it for sale anywhere on the internet.
These have been around here for a while...
