20th Anniversary Mac unboxing video kind of makes us wish product had never existed
There aren't many ways to hop in the time machine and enjoy old-school hardware the way it was meant to be enjoyed, and that's what makes virgin unboxings of vintage equipment so very special. If even for just a few moments, it's an opportunity to pretend that you're in a bygone era where computers, portables, and miscellaneous gizmos held a mystique that has long since been replaced by the monotony of modern ubiquity. We want to emphasize that "just for a few moments" part, a phrase clearly lost on the proud recipient of a new-in-box 20th Anniversary Macintosh -- an aberration in the Apple family tree that cost a staggering $7,500 back in 1997, so we imagine there weren't many tycoons sitting around with enough cash, tech savvy, and collector mentality to buy one and leave it sitting untouched in its cardboard for ten-plus years. Despite the rarity and coolness of this gentleman's find, we found ourselves screaming "just get to the [obscene] unboxing already," "Batman & Robin is the movie you're trying to think of, now can we please continue for the love of all that's good and holy," and "are you ever going to turn it on, or should I just go ahead and gouge my eyes out now?" by the time the 23-minute marathon had reached its anticlimactic conclusion. Word to the wise: if you're going to take your life into your hands and click through to the movie, do yourself a favor and fast-forward liberally. Meanwhile, we're cool going another 20 years without seeing one of these things.

i think people are being a bit unfair, the person in this video is adiblasi (alfred) ive been subscribed to his youtube channel for quite some time and to me he just comes across as a kind, computer (not just apple) loving geek, i urge you to watch some of his other videos
http://www.youtube.com/adiblasi
OMG it's so freakin' boring! And the host is so annoying!! It's not even worth spending 5 minutes to scroll through!!!
Well.. The video was/is pointless.
But hey.. It could've been worse. They could've done it naked.
I might have even preferred this to my old PPC 6100/66av...
But this guy is a complete and utter tool.
By the way...
"Apple Fanboys" make up for a small percentage of Mac Users.
So please, cut the crap.
They have 2 of these for sale in the Akihabara Mac collection softmap store!!!
I wondered what the hell they where!!!
now can we put both those knob-heads back in the box and tape it up for another 10 years?
Here's one for $1799.

This brings back memories from when i was six and played a game on it with the world *can;t really remember :P*
So gotta ask me dad if he still has it
Hmm, looks something like a PS1 with a screen and speakers attached to it. How underwhelming.
Yeah and the unboxer is a douche. Not one joke was actually funny. "Technically, I just got head! BWAHAHAHA!"
Ugh.
But will it blenD????
But seriously folks.
Did I hear the Jerry Seinfeld theme coming out of it during that ghey ass spiel at boot up?
Damn. why can't this machine get any respect?
Yeesh, No mercy I love the guys videos it's disappointing to see all of Engadget rip on the guy for posting the video.
Still only makes the man more popular so whatever I guess.
The problem with videos like this is that much of it is superfluous. I don't watch unboxing videos to watch other people enjoy themselves. This video comes across as someone else's home video...most people don't go back to watch their own home videos.
Though he does acknowledge the viewers, he's having more fun with himself than engaging the viewers by talking directly to them, making me feel like a third party, leaving me uninterested and left out at points. I've found many video reviews and unboxings to be like this one...I blame it on poor video editing, not to discredit this guy. I'm sure this guy is cool, personable, and fun in person - I'm just not actually there.
Thought I'd expound upon the thoughts already laid out here by others and perhaps by providing a more articulate description of what irks us about the vidoes, fans of the unboxer might be less offended.
Worst Un-boxing Evar!
I think ill go back to watching something more entertaining like, Paint Drying
Would you guys just shut the hell up. I know this guy from YouTube and he is a very nice man. This is a piece of Apple history and he was unboxing it slowly to take it all in. Bring on the negativity but I couldn't care less. This video wasn't for your entertainment. It was to document the opening of a marvel. Don't be so self-centered.
I totally agree with you Ramin, it was for his own enjoyment not ours, he was nice enough to share it with us. So just get over it. And in the words of Al, 'Knock it off'. =]
So do you make him shave before you kiss him?
As much as you love him, there are those who find him annoying or tough to follow. And "knowing this guy from Youtube" might be the funniest/saddest thing I've ever read.
Knock it off...
The guy is so incredibly annoying I don't understand how someone could subscribe to his channel.
All the emotion that video evokes is a slight tendency to homicide.
I was fortunate enough to watch the live feed of this vid on Al's Ustream, it was a rare and interesting thing to watch. Al's vids always have a good amount of humor and he is a very nice guy. The length of the video is justified by the extreme rarity of the find.
Alfred, the host of this unboxing, happens to use an eight core Windows Server.
So he is not a mac fanboy. He has been with Apple since the beginning, he just wants other people to see this rare machine.

Weldone getting on engadget alfred.
First off Alfred FTW!
I can't believe how people have reacted to this video, i know the readers of this blog just love to hate anything that remotely links itself with apple but come the fuck on. You can have your opinions instead of following that of the writer.
Alfred is a great guy, he makes very interesting video's on youtube and streams live on Ustream. Before making any judgements on this guy visit his YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/adiblasi and watch a few vid's.
Also, Alfred is not a complete apple fanboy he does run an 8-Core Dell server ;)
I'm glad there are at least a few people that can appreciate the technology of the Twentieth Anniversary Mac and the efforts Al put into acquiring and sharing it with the world. We got a chance to learn more about Al and the unboxing in an interview earlier this week on the RetroMacCast:
http://retromaccast.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=342785
I agree the video was long thats so if you are getting bored fast forward it and stop complaining!!! I have to say its not every day you can see one of these get opened so thankyou Alfred for sharing this unboxing...... I am sure that i will never get to open one in my lifetime........
He got a prototype 1997 gay RealDoll with it, too! He scored big time!
The guy is just incredibly annoying.
I feel seasick after watching that, far too much camera movement :(
Ok, this would be a 20th anniversary APPLE product. If it was a 20th anniversary MAC it would be from 2004...
He looks and talks like Michael Scott in The Office.
Here, if you don't want to watch the video he got the pictures of it on Flickr.

By the way, Al isn't a fanboy. Here's an excerpt from his Flickr photopage:

And just so you know, I'm not an 'Apple Fan Boy.' I use and rely on Windows Server products and XP Pro workstations. They are incredibly reliable, and, without doubt, they are my platform of choice for business.
However, for my personal computing activities, which are centric to photography, video, and audio, I do enjoy the Apple products and Mac OS X.
It is great that we have choices in this world, and also great that there is competition out there in the marketplace. We, as the end-users, ultimately benefit from both.

Have some respect.
I don't think they took QUITE enough photos of it either, and, the video should have been more like 120 mins like a regular movie (similar to Bowflex, The Movie) LOLOLOL {insert sarcasm here}
Faslane
I found it interesting and entertaining too. I'm glad they shared the unboxing. Loved the extra surprise in the box too, cool seller!
Now hold on, Al Diblasi and Adam B are two very nice people who share a common interest in Apple and their products. Both are very experienced in the computer field and although the video is long, it still has a lot of good content. If you are a true Apple fan you'll know how valuable this footage really is.
I had one of these. it was an incredible machine at the time. watching the video makes me ache for its return to my dining room.
This was worth it just for the comment about how since "the whole system" was designed by BOSE it should be good. Seriously... there's a reason why the accronym "Buy Other Sound Equipment" exists.
