I hope they keep the name Windows 7. It's just a good name. Vista was not a very good choice of names in my opinion. And it really drives me crazy when people don't pronounce it right, and call it "Veesta".
This irritated me too until about a month ago. I believe Microsoft pronounces it "Vis-ta," however, the Spanish pronunciation of the word "Vista" is infact "Vee-sta." You're probably wondering what the heck that has to do with anything. "Vista" in Spanish means view or clarity. Microsoft has touted Vista by saying that it removes clutter, making things more clear. It's my belief that a marketing person liked the word's meaning in Spanish but hated the pronunciation, thus changing it to "Vis-ta."
I'm probably royaly wrong, but that's my two cents.
I don't think they could keep the name 'Windows 7' without a majority of the internet saying they're ripping off the Mac OSes. This is probably the reason why Ubuntu still has their code names for each release.
"OS 10 vs Windows 7" -- It just doesn't seem right to me.
Hmm, I dont see why everybody is "hating" on windows seven If people were smart they would already know that windows seven addresses problems found in windows vista, like slow, buggyness, the xp compatibility is stripped. security, vista was secure, but windows seven is recoded from scratch so its going to be better with that.
And everyone has to stop making false statements, We dont know anything new, Stop saying that its going to look like Mac. It just makes all of you look like little children, which quite sadly, might be of age above 35. very sad.
I feel that while what you say might be true, and I certainly hope it will turn out that way, those same things were said about Vista. Vista was supposed to be all that and more, but wasn't. I'm afraid 7 might turn out the same way...
@APVangeliLMS Windows 7 recoded form scratch?! Oh boy! Man, you have NO IDEA what an Operating System is. It's not a silly interface that execute commands, that is Win3.1 and earlier, where you was doing (basically) executing DOS commands on the back.
An Operating System is far more complex it controls about everything inside your computer, it manages your RAM, HDD and all other devices, communicate with them, and more. (Read more in details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system)
Another operating system is not your notepad, it can't be program in a week, or 3 years. Windows 7 is nothing more then what XP was form Windows 2000. Same OS, same issues, just new features and little bug fix and little optimization and tweaks. If you expect that Windows 7 will be anything better then Windows 7 you are so wrong. If you have issues with Vista, you will have them with Windows 7 and up. That is probably because you have a crappy old computer that is NOT Vista compatible. Not to defend Vista or Microsoft, but it was mentioned several times that Vista is not design for old computer, in fact they dropped support for many old technologies. By old technologies I don't mean floppy drive and parallel port I mean technologies used by motherboard chipsets, BIOS, etc..
If you have an old system use XP. If you have a new system XP will be an old man complaining non-stop on how the old days was better, and annoy you. Vista is the new kid, fresh ready to intake new technology, however it hates old stuff... like you when you look at that black and white 5inch TV with what they laughingly called mono speakers. If it doesn't bother you, then trow away your TV and use that instead. Yea... not much fun, is it? Well that is what you are doing with Vista. As for XP, it is like you are trying to show how to play video games complex as Call of Duty 4 to your grand parents. Good luck.
What I am saying is that both OS are great OS, both have their issues like every other OS in this planet, as long as humans program, bugs and annoyance will still exists. You just have to read the system requirements. I made Vista run on my mother computer (Pentium 3 800Mhz with 256MB of RAM, YES it runs, Microsoft could have put that as minimum system requirements, however they did not as those computer contains old technology. Already the box of Vista talks about pixel shader... yea how many average computer users do you know know what really is "pixel shader", see. Of course you still have that PIII that was over-clocked an match Vista specs, but read between the lines a bit, and use your head. Another example, look at the famous 3D studio Mac system requirements, teh site says a PIII 500Mhz. Do you REALLY think you will be able to make Hollywood movies (Finding Nemo and such) with such equipment? It will take ages to render such animation...
nice insult, too bad you cannot argue anything we're talking about spanish, not french and that furthers my point, douche and being pronounced doosh not dowch, so is vista being pronounced veesta not vihsta
like i said, check yo 'delf next time
o yea, come up with a better insult word "...makes you an automatic douche" "one should call you 'doosh' " douche douche douche douche

I pronounce it "craaaap".
And since Win 7 will be replacing vista just over a year after it's release I don't think I'm alone.
Yeah, I think that they should screw all the names like vista and Xp and switch (back) to numbers.

Ironically, Vista is VERY cluttered in my opinion.
I enjoy the clean look of a freshly installed desktop of Windows XP, with the Bliss wallpaper, and the nice empty recycling bin.
...wha?

Why do you think it's "veesta?" Are you Ren?

5 is man
and 6 is the devil
i guess that would make me seven
Yeah because windows never used numbers in their name, oh wait...
And who pronounces it Veesta? I've never heard that before.
@ APVangeliLMS
I feel that while what you say might be true, and I certainly hope it will turn out that way, those same things were said about Vista. Vista was supposed to be all that and more, but wasn't. I'm afraid 7 might turn out the same way...
dude, just because vista in english has the same spelling, ancient word origin, and meaning in spanish doesn't mean it's not an english word.
plus saying "veesta" makes you an automatic douche
Dude, obviously they are going to call it Windows 11 to one-up on Apple.
vista is a spanish word, therefore it IS pronounced veesta
check yo 'delf next time
they should totally do "Windows VII" ..thatd be classic..
Chris, does that mean windows 7 is being released last 3 or 4 months ago?
decu55,
douche _is_ a french word, therefore one should call you "doosh" rather than "dowch"
