MSI's new NVIDIA 9600GT card includes "turbo" button for overclocking
Whatever you do, don't push the red button. MSI has pimped out its new GeForce 9600 GT Diamond graphics card with dual DVI, dual HDMI, optical audio and a shiny red button. The button bumps the clock speed of the graphics core and the memory, as well as increasing voltage to world-destroying levels. Unfortunately you'll have to reach around the back of your dusty machine to click it, but we're sure 30 minutes and a soldering iron can re-route the button to this little doomsday-inspired puppy.

Anyone notice the thumbscrew threads on either side of the button? You could rig up a cable release from a camera with a bracket that screws to those threads and run the release button around to the front of the machine for some old-skool action.
Several folks have also questioned why they don't just make this thing run at "turbo" speeds all the time. The answer is simple; you don't need "turbo" graphics to surf the web and work on spreadsheets, so why suck up all the extra power and generate more heat when you don't need to? Quite frankly, this would be a handy feature on every video card. My gaming rig serves as my work machine during the day and I'd love to be able to turn down the thirst of my GPU when I'm just banging code and writing reports.
What's lame though is that the mobile cards already have a feature where they only clock-up if the demand is there. Not sure why they removed that feature then replaced it with a clunky hard-to-reach button and then treat it like a feature.
Nvidia Card have 3 modes: 2D,Low Power 3D, Performamce 3D. when browsing it's sitting a the 2D mode which is in the 200mhz range... This button is gimmicky. Aero might kick it in Low Power 3D but that's it.
You'll be cold chillin' with your insane FPS.
That ain't HDMI. That's DisplayPort, baby, yeah!
I think I had an old 486dx that had a turbo button too...
I GET IT TURBO BUTTON IZ OLD!
Ok so displayport.. perhaps i've been living under a rock but it looks like HDMI and I have no freaking clue what the differences are - can someone enlighten me?
It's Dell's proprietary HDMI clone.
...it's the exact opposite of proprietary.
It's a royalty free alternative to HDMI; technically speaking it's quite similar.
At the end of the day its still a 9600gt and will cost as much as 9800GTX...
A big meh
Why is there an audio port on a "Graphics" card??
With the HDMI port, you have the capability of routing your system audio through the one HDMI cable.
Presumably, the optical out is there so that you can switch from HDMI to a DVI monitor and not have to worry about setting the audi oto go back to the sound card. (This is a complete guess.)
I see, so when you push the shiny red button VTEC kicks in.
oh i get it, it's an inside joke just for you
Ahh VTEC, makes me miss Street Racing.
2 minutes and a bicycle brake cable.
My 8600 had one. It was a nice little feature.
Looking at the card the button is removable so depending on the cable slack it may not take much to move it and with a 2 pin coupler you may not even need the soldering iron.
only a lazy idiot would buy this. the only perk to this card is the display port. learn to use rivatuner so you can have fan adjust based on temps and have card always overclocked.
