XPERIA X1 specs get further detailed in new white paper

Sony Ericsson's white papers have already provided plenty of details on its much-anticipated XPERIA X1 handset, and it looks like its latest one is no exception, with it shedding yet more light on the device's specs. Most notably, Sony Ericsson has now confirmed that the device will ship with 256MB of SDRAM, in addition to 512MB of NAND Flash, and it's gotten specific about the device's battery life, which it says will clock in at 10 hours talk time using GSM or 6.5 hours using UMTS. That'll take a further dip to 3.1 hours if you're making video calls all the time, with 3.5 hours required to recharge the 1500 mAh lithium polymer battery once its drained. By Q4 08. Oh, and SE hit me on the cell! I got a killer app/function for that thing. It will be the hottest thing since, well, (woops, almost slipped ;^). Anyways, all the youngsters will love it and to not have it (cause its soooo cool) will automatically label those (not fortunate enough to own an X1) a "Herb"...

I agree with you, I have trouble believing a Windows Mobile HTC-built phone will have a long battery life.

it has...a touchscreen, the QWERTY keyboard, a 4-direction navigation key, and an "optical joystick."

Hey, c'mon now what's wrong with some friendly competition? Obviously, many (not most) people have the perception that the Iphone is the greatest phone in the world, but that is not true for most people, and people did (and still do) have the same perception about the ipod, which for most of us who actually know anything about tech know that's not exactly true (depending on your opinion), so I'm just saying that from what it sounds like, this is a better product than the iphone (at least in my opinion, and I bet most other people's opinions). This is similar to my belief that the Zune is a better product than the Ipod, which obviously not everyone agrees with, but more and more people are agreeing with that statement, and why is that? Because people (like me) like to tell their friends how great the product is, and then they may get one and also recommend it, which is why I think it's an iphone killer, to get my friends/more people to buy the better product than the iphone. Why do I do this?? Because there are better products for better prices than what Apple sells (in terms of mp3 players and phones), and I like to get my friends deals, so why the hell not?

The Zune Social may be winding down. One big retailer, GameStop, has decided to stop selling Microsoft’s digital music players because of a lack of demand.
Why is this not a surprise? Microsoft has sold only 2 million Zune’s since it launched the device in November, 2006. Apple, in contrast, sold 10.6 million iPods last quarter.
Yeah, well what do you expect from Gamestops Zune sales??? It's called GAMEStop for a reason! DUH! Anyways, Apple has had their ipod line out since 2001, Zune's only been out since 2006, so of course there will be more ipod sales last quarter, it's because of brand-awareness. And besides, for now, Microsoft has stated that their plans for Zune (in terms of sales numbers) is to be number 2, and that is because they obviously can't destroy Apple's sales number right off the bat, no matter how good of a player they would make, because right now, people are using ipods. But the more people hear about Zune, and the more people need to go replace their dead (or obsolete) ipods, the more of an opportunity the Zune has to gain more marketshare. I personally believe more people will be using Zunes in 10 years than the amount of people using ipods then.

What you think it'll be the Iphone dominating the smartphone market??? I doubt that, since it's not really a smartphone, more of a media-phone, since it doesn't run 3rd party apps officially (yet) and it's not exactly running a smartphone OS. You sir are a retard. I preferred a memory stick over a 8 or 16GB internal drive. Kiss all your data goodbye or have all your sensitive data be sent to get it fix and have someone sniffing your private data if something does go wrong with your phone.
If you end up getting a replacement phone, all you have to do is stick back in your memory card without having to recopy over on 8 to 16GB internal drive.
Most WM phones have just ram and ample memory for applications, and leave the big storage (media, GPS) to expandable memory. I personally prefer it that way....I'd rather shell out for a big memory card that I can upgrade or swap out than pay extra for non-removable memory up front.

yeah my brother had an n95 8gb that was faulty, he sent it to get repaired (hes just your average jo user, not insanely tech but not dull either) and came back with all his prescious memories erased. i really think there should be a data copying facility offered, even if its an additional cost, or at least let you know that the data will be gone so that you can realise you have to back it up before you send it in...
and on another note. what is so glorious about this phone?
features?, size? i dont know but im slightly interested in a 3g iphone when they're released in aus, (was thinking about a touch but too expensive)(i would have loved to buy one of those new sony mp3 players, and still might, just because sony really pioneered the portable market, and their battery and audio quality is terrific, and the bundleed headphones, the reasons i havent bought one are the lack of features eg. games, internet all that user friendly shit you get with imonopoly, plus i really dont want to be forced to buy an apple product)
so someone please let me know if tis will make a good portable audio player/substitute for ipod touch.
Looks like neither the X1a or X1i will work with T-Mobile's 3G.
T-Mobile has definitely got to get with the program. Every other carrier's phones are really nice and T-Mobile's phone selection both blows and sucks. Ugh!!

It's a phone which has almost everything a phone aficionado like me dreams about. the price though...is giving me a heart attack. It's priced just under $1000 at most of the websites. I'll be spending almost 2wice what I get for a decent laptop nowdays. It's a great gadget..but if the iphone can do all that in half the price, SE's gotta up it's game, and lower the price!!
I'm no iphone fanboy for the record, I currently own a nokia n95, and had a samsung before it.
However, If nothing half decent comes out by the beginning of Q4 this year...I might just get the iphone.

Damm, Ubuntu doesn't have to friggin run on EVERYTHING. Get that through your thick skull. Windows Mobile in an excellent OS. Something tells me you're never used it.
Ubuntu doesn't run on everything, they just have a version for MIDs, netbooks (not announced yet), the PS3, and regular machines.
There is no one distro that runs on everything, but debian is probably the closest a person can get.

Nope. Thankfully it runs WinMo 6.1. NO news at all about Ubuntu Mobile. Don't know much about Ubuntu on a mobile, but WinMo 6.1 (and hopefully support for WinMo 7) will be great. Sony has always had Ericsson phones, but they never really done anything impressive until joining the WinMo side. Must mean WinMo must be great to work on.

This is what is going to set apart the iPhone. Its going to have a great software platform, and to compete with that, these other phone manufacturers have got to get the Android platform booming!

How'd they get the battery life so long? By contrast, my new i-mate has barely 4 hours talk time. I wonder what's going on with those newly designed batteries with a charge that supposedly lasts 10x longer than the standard battery.
256 ram ,seem se is gonna release a wm7 in the beginning of 2009.
thats the reason for 256,and since wm7 is having lot of graphics that need memory.

I think at this point I'd take the Raphael if it's interface is like the Diamond.
I prefer this over the diamond due to the keyboard. However, I am looking forward to the day when I can integrate with a voice recognition app, either on-board or remote, so that most of the email/SMS that I send can just be dictated and instantly translated to text. Audio can be sent but that's a lot of useless data. Clearly, some key entry is still required for when silence is required. Also, it'd be nice to be able to say to this device or an iPod player, "Play White Stripes Denial Twist" or "Play Playlist 60s funk" and have the music just kick on. These are features that would further transform how we interact with phones.
