A little earlier today Activision CEO Bobby Kotick debuted
Guitar Hero World Tour to the audience at D -- but he wasn't content doing something trite like picking up a guitar (
or drums) and playing himself. Oh no, he trotted out Paula Abdul (to judge), and Tony Hawk and Brody Jenner as the front-men for the virtual band. The video's after the break; it's a little bit front-heavy during the introduction, but there's certainly enough gameplay footage in there to get a basic idea of what to expect:
Rock Band.
Now this is news \o/
see i hate people who say "uch this is a copy of rock band so it sucks" listen wtf are they supposed to do just sit back and croak with just a guitar while rockband takes over? that wud be stupid. the point is they are gettin with the times and may i say this game will kick rock bands ass.(considering they are doing everything better than rockband). and another thing rockband shouldn't have guitar cuz they r copying guitar hero. do u realize how stupid that sounds?
that dude's forehead is GINORMOUS
Dude. It's a five-head
ultimate combover! rock on!
Activision, doesn't playing catch-up suck?
Playing himself? Is that one of the official instruments?
lolocaust
I love how Kotick got called out for copying Rock Band by the host. Pure gold!
That's why I hate car designers. They're all shamelessly ripping off the Model T.
I wonder if I can use my Rockband gear with it so I can only purchase the game.... hrm.
And miss out on the clearly superior drum kit? Are you mad?!
if it means saving $130... SURE!
Well, I would skip out on the drum kit... It's a little crowded in my living room as is...
The drum kit has already been shown, there are three drum pads and two cymbals plus a bass pedal. I don't think that the drums will be compatible. :/
Hopefully they'll have settled the guitar issue... The microphone should definitely work cross-platform.
@ Matt
the game's $190
I frickin' refuse to buy this set because I am NOT spending all that money all over just so my room can be filled with fake instruments.
They should have made it compatible with the drums from rock band instead of trying to be "innovative" and adding more crap to hit.
dregs, meet pop culture
has the track list for this game been released yet?
wait, why was the screen filmed instead of the actual people? all that does is make it look worse.
So there are 3 versions of GH coming out?
No wonder why they didn't make a new Tony Hawk game, Activisions busy whoring out Guitar Hero.
Paula Abdul IS NOT FUNNY!
Wouldn't it make more sense to have Paula Abdul sing? Since when do people judge music video games? The only thing to judge is how much of a copy this game is of Rock Band (answer: 99%)
And how much did Rockband "copy" guitar hero? 33% atleast...
And every FPS game released ever must be copying Doom?
RockBand was made by the people that created Guitar Hero. So, I wouldn't say it copied Guitar Hero. I think of it more as a progression, or an advancement.
So many people don't understand what's going on between GH and RB. Harmonix made GH 1, 2 and the 80's edition. Then they wanted to move on and make RB so they sold the franchise to Activision, who proceeded to sell out and rape the game of all virtue. Now I can't talk about Guitar Hero around people because people think I'm talking about GH3 and I'm pelted with "Rock Band is better".
Activision, you are the new EA.
And for the record Guitar Hero TWO will always dominate.
Yay cymbals!
I think it is gonna beat Rock Band. I thought that the drums on Rock Band were the only good thing about the game, but Guitar Hero will have them beat. I held off on getting Rock Band for this and it has paid off.
God, that's lame...
thank god someone else thought this
Ok, I have the Rock Band Special Edition and it kicks ass. The drums in GH4 look awesome but they're total rip offs of Rock Band, which makes them not cool. Even the gameplay is the same (the three note bars on the bottom and the lyrics on the top) so I'd rather stay playing with my Rock Band kit.
"The drums in GH4 look awesome but they're total rip offs of Rock Band, which makes them not cool."
Because DrumMania and GuitarFreaks never existed... oh, wait...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DrumMania
FINALLY someone else but sticks up for Konami! DrumMania and Guitar Freaks came out YEARS before either Rock Band OR Guitar Hero! Thanks much for the vindication brother!
heres a video:

yes, it will get old...
eventually.
is it wrong that i knew what this was and yet still wanted to hear it?
if that's wrong Ian, than i don't wanna be right
thanks phanboy i needed to hear that, at lest i know im not alone in the world
OMG, these guys make NSync look like hard-core rockers.
I'm pretty sure these are the same guys from the Alltel wireless commercial.
(minus Chad)
I can has rockbad ripoff?
too bad this isnt a copy of Rock Band. It's an improvement. Harmonix has always made horrible peripherals, whereas Activision exceeded in that area. Rock Band itself just seems so unresponsive when playing...
An improvement? Where did they improve? If anything, I see them doing WORSE. And have you ever played with the new Guitar Hero stuff? No? Well guess what, none of us have. So as far as Rock Band being unresponsive, I guess that's a matter of opinion. I can hit solos on Rock Band that Guitar Hero's circular notes make damn near impossible. Not to mention Guitar Hero's tendency to throw in notes just for the sake of difficulty. I hate it.
so... does this come with two guitars??
I'm still waiting for accordion hero and maybe even harmonica hero.
tamborine hero!
cowbell and xxx jug hero
Cowbell Hero!

People like to mention Bemani games because it gives them indie street cred. Sadly, GuitarFreaks only had three buttons and DrumMania is lousy with J-Pop.
Rock Band offers new things that DrumMania didn't - like a lack of J-Pop.
yes... because bands such as Arch Enemy, Dillinger Escape Plan and Mastodon are J-Pop.
I'm sure all of the wonderful in-house Konami instrumental music, which absolutely fucking ruins most mainstream music in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, is J-Pop.
I'm sure some absolutely amazing metal/jazz/ska/funk/lounge/electronic/punk/soul music in DrumMania/GuitarFreaks... is J-Pop.
Grow up. The game has over 14 variations, nearly a thousand songs, and you think it's all J-Pop? Sounds like you're the kind of douchebag who thinks you can gain "street cred" by dismissing the Bemani series as being J-Pop.
