Introducing Engadget Poland!

Why Polish, you ask? Well, besides the fact that we had some amazing talent waiting in the wings to blow it out, it's also a smaller (dare we say underserved?) market to soft-launch in that allows us to work out the kinks as we prepare to do even more international versions of Engadget in the coming weeks and months.
So if Polish isn't your bag, just hang tight, you'll be seeing even more localized Engadgets soon enough. And if it is, head on over and welcome our Polish team to the fold!

Poland: Thanks for great sausage.
*shakes fist at evan*
np:)
Thanks!
that's going to be one big sausage party
Osz w kurwę, nie spodziewałem się tego ;o

Anonymoose said: Bright (plain) sun can on waves of dolphins with love always goose
Chilitto said: too not
hmm... I am thinking bablefish needs to add a polish translation because the one i found on google seems to be confused...
@Tim: Anonymoose took too much lsd and google translator is right:)
"Anonymoose: maybe the bright sun on its wave of dolphins forever with love goose"
ps
Osz w kurwę = 'lol fuck' (slang?)
też nie = 'me too not' (in response to "i did not expect it")
Polska gora! Swietnie!
congrats engadget...when launching in india???
exactly what I was gonna say! I'm born in America but with Indian parents, so I speak hindi a lot. I don't read it though, so it'd be nicer if there was an english letter version.
and english letter version? you mean...uhh...kind of like the one we're reading right now?
It's like this:
The spanish version is in spanish, right? But it's using english letters. Kinda like that. It's ok though if you don't get it becuase, people are mostly using the way I'm talking about now and days, so engadget will probably come with the same.
I think you mean Roman letters. There are no "English" letters.
My first thought was that this would be a gag about gadgets with qualities found in polish/blond jokes.
Engadget po Polsku jest lepiej.
(my polish is rusty at best)
Whats involved in these new sites. does it mean its just done in the polish language because i like engadget as it is with news from aroun the world.
my dziadzio will be so happy. He can read about gadgets from afar....if he ever gets done playing solitar
Sweet! I'm 100% Polish! :D My parents didn't teach me it though! :(
they must have been too ashamed.
Twoi rodzice czują wstydu z tysięcy miniaturowych mężczyzn jedzenie sera sos wiatru twarz
"Twoi rodzice czują wstydu z tysięcy miniaturowych mężczyzn jedzenie sera sos wiatru twarz"
Translation: Your parents feel ashamed that thousands of small men eat cheese sause wind face.
^^ wtf?
Whatever he means... He's right about your parents being ashamed.. shame on them!
No kurde mol, to jest dobry pomysl. (Damn accents...)
Good, now no one can say "You forgot Poland"
Tak TAk Tak !! (means yes yes yes-- , I think..)
In Danish and Norwegian it means thanks, thanks, thanks. But you're welcome ;)
in polish, tak does mean yes. not sure if that's how you spell it, but that's all i know from my mom and her 5 polish sisters.
Sorry, Jakob, but tak is only correct for Danish as we say "takk" in Norway.
I want to see Engadget Arabic please!
Mazurek Dąbrowskiego!!!
OMG, THIS IS SO PROFANE, DELETE THIS POST IMMEDIATELY!!!
relax man. this is just the polish national anthem. there's no profanity in here. im half polish.
I looked at the website. it's Greek to me.
What??
Can I help, I speek EN/PL/NL ...
...and I'm addicted to engadget !!!
No właśnie czas najwyższy !!!
http://engadget.pl/ lol
Hi there, I translate for the Polish website. It is all translated content for the moment, but hang on and you might soon hear about some cool old-school gadgets from the Soviet times!
What's the point of localized versions anyway? Translated, I understand but who wants to get less AND less trendy news AND with less tacky headlines??
(Shame on you, Spanish engadget)
I second the "shame on spanish engadget"... You get the same news alot later, and they got no sense of humor... And pretty much no one is there, comments are empty
You should make engadget Mexico... With mexican editors you're guaranteed to get an active blog, alot of jokes and a shitload of profanities :-)
Well, apparently you haven't been coming around to Engadget Spanish lately. We do translate the most important news that are relevant to our people, but also publish a bunch of original content.
Now regarding the content (and jokes), we have to be very careful about the language we use. Some jokes may be funny in Mexico and really obscene in Peru... just part of being a "localized - international" blog for different continents.
Please, everyone, no plumber jokes.
Woah soon engadget will localised everywhere, then there will be engadget tv etc. :D
Good luck :D
That is the last thing we need.
Can we have a UK site plz?
Depite it being the same language, theres alot of british stuff that dont get on here.
One slight problem, the AOL UK is owned not by Time Warner Inc., but Carphone Warehouse.
Am I the only one that finds AOL in the UK a bit odd? I mean AMERICA OnLine in the UK? I can understand it in canada, mexico, even like Brazil and other south AMERICAN continents, but Eurasia?
Congrats on the new site, lets have some back-translated goodies too, like polish posts translated to english!
jabłko iphone!
PLEASE ENGADGET IN GERMAN!!!! PLEEEAAASSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thanks! My dad will love this site!
If it's "internationaliZed" as you say, atleast use a 'S' instead of a 'Z', you know, the correct spelling because it is called... English?
Yahhh trick yahhhhhhh!
Congrats Engadget Poland!
moje najszczersze gratulacje!
Nice work, Engadget. There are a lot of Polish migrants where I live, I'm sure they'll appreciate this.
Thanks again!
Now Polish is sorted out, maybe we could have Engadget in Queen's English so that readers in England can have greater understanding of articles without being baffled by strange words like 'snickered' and misspellings of words like colour. Also, english writers would mean no confusion between britain and the uk (a frequent annoyance for me and other readers i know). Please low rank me, i deserve it. BTW, nice to see that engadget are continuing to open their doors to people of other countries, good on you!
The common confusion is that Britain, the UK and England are not the same thing :| England is within Great Britain (the island) which is within the UK (short for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).
Niko Bellic is from Poland, right?
No, Niko come from Serbia, but we love Niko :D
Vodka for everyone!
Kurwa ja nie mogę, engadget PL :D Ale zajebiście!
yeah!
What about some russian?
You may as well call it Engadget UK hah! Managed to get some tabloid humour (yes, it's poor humour) in.
"let me show a product here that you are going to absolutely love... it's called sausage magic"
Ożesz Ty kurwa! Ale niespodzianka! ^^
Wow! Thanks.
Next we may actually get iPhone here...
Orange has recently announced the introduction of iphone to the Polish market (among others).
http://www.orange.com/en_EN/press/press_releases/cp080516uk.html
BTW, there is already a Polish rip-off of Engadget, you may want to sue them :D http://gadzetomania.pl
One way or another, nie spodziewałem się engadget po polsku!
Ok so my question is as to how this is going to work in the future...
Are all the regional engadgets going to show their own news, or is engadget central going to distribute everything to each region who will encode it into the given language (and vice versa back to central for non american posts)?
Or will it be only posts from the appropriate language, in which case by the looks of this comment stream, Polish engadget is up for some fine updates on new sausage making machine technology...
Robert Kubica can finally read Engadget in his own language :)
So wouldn't that be more like Plgadget? ;-)
Let me guess - in Poland HD DVD won over Blu-Ray?
Great stuff!!!! I'm learning Polish this year! And Polish is VERY popular here in UK!!!!!!!!
Popular as in "used by construction workers and waitresses", not popular as in "low-status Eastern European".
Polish is only "popular" in the UK because there are so many Polish people there. It's hardly something a lot of British people want to learn.
Well, there is more I suppose. Poland being held for some forty years behind the iron curtain is nowadays somewhat exotic for the Western countries, not only because of its rich culture (including one of the most difficult in the world - interesting article: http://hubpages.com/hub/Most_Difficult_Languages_-_Polish) but also a fascinating history. (Really, what do you know about the history of Poland? Have a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_poland)
Poland is in fashion and I am taking advantage of that :)
...one of the most difficult *languages* in the world
No Engadget African American?
swedish here please xD
but ok i use to read in trad. chinese.. :P
I'm Polish by birth, but I've spent most of my life in the States. I can speak Polish but can't write it very well.
I'm glad that Engadget Poland is getting so much support from the English-speaking crowd, and that it hasn't devolved into 1) a political tirade and or 2) a "dumb 'Polak' joke"-fest. (Now watch some smartass ....)
Anyway, now my Polish-speaking parents will finally understand my obsession with the 3G iPhone
About time that the poorest nation in the EU got gadget news... I guess..
Kind of funny how the "poorest nation in the EU" has one of the strongest economies of Eastern Europe.
What? The poorest nation in the EU is certainly not Poland! Have you forgotten about Romania and Bulgaria? Nevermind the other even poorer European countries that are not members of the union.
Key word being 'Eastern' then I guess.
I'm not judging poland over it though, it's just a fact that poland isn't exactly a rich country and is known to have a large number of people seeking work in other EU countries because in poland the wages are so comparatively low, and as such I don't think they can so readily afford gadgets one assumes.
Many asian companies assemble stuff in poland because then they are 'made in the EU' which avoids certain taxes and blocks but it's almost as cheap labour as in asia.
If you need first-hand information - Polish society certainly is not wealthy in comparison to western EU countries, Polish economy however, is getting stronger and stronger every year.
Regarding asian companies (Sharp has opened a manufacturing plant near my town recently) - wages (and consequently interest) are rather low and the company is considering to "import" workers from eastern countries. The translators and middle-management are being paid well, though.
The fact that Polish people seek work abroad does not result only from poor job opportunities but also from the adventurous nature of the Poles and dissatisfaction with politicians (in opinion of many Poles - there are none to choose from).
And hey, if you are an European you can have a weekend trip to, say, Cracov by cheap airlines and see for yourself how it is like around here.
You are right about one thing, though; there are a lot of people in Poland seeking jobs in other EU countries, but it comes down to socioeconomic issues. In Poland, there is a disparity with regards to income and employment availability. Poland is modernizing their economy, which strongly prefers young twenty- and thirty-somethings with good computer skills who can also speak fluent English. And so if you're not among that demographic, you're left wanting. That being said, you did pick a poor "target" country, especially since the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Hungary, not to mention Bulgaria and Romania are also EU members. I believe that Poland has the strongest economy of the group, even having twice the GDP percentage growth of the United States in 2006, if Wikipedia is to be believed (not that GDP alone means too too much).
Well thanks for the invite but poland is all too catholic for my taste, sorry.
Have we resorted to blatant trolling now?
I guess it might be considered that if you are catholic and polish and like the status quo.
Fact is that it's more catholic than vatican city and they have laws enforcing that, they give people fines and threaten with prison if they 'insult god' and such crap, plus being so catholic they probably have a lot of those awful churchbells I hate so much and ring them even more than in my area :o
And the thing is that that's what I always consider when people talk about vacations in poland, and I could not have said anything but when given the choice between self-censoring and speaking my views I spoke my views this time, is that trolling though? Maybe it is; because I knew it would upset some people
Still, I have a right to not like religion even if it offends some, and I did say sorry and it was brought up that I should visit.
Polish people individually seem nice enough though, as do people that are catholic (all this is obvious but I'm conveying I'm not hating in such a way), it's just the organisational thing that goes against my grain.
sweet
Hi,
what about Engadget Germany?
Will there be?

ZAJEBIŚCIE !!! :D
Long live the teck blog!
