We haven't heard much about iRiver's shiny new
Spinn PMP since it was unveiled at CES earlier this year, but Crave has now turned up a couple of fresh new details on the device, including word of the all important release date. That'll apparently come sometime in August (in the UK, at least), although there's unfortunately still no word on prices. Otherwise, Crave has confirmed that the player will still be arriving in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB varieties, and that it'll be shipping with built-in DAB radio in the UK, as well as built-in Bluetooth and a dedicated (but unspecified) 3D acceleration chip to spice up the interface a bit. In case you missed 'em the first time around, you can find our shots of the device (under glass)
here.

Could not agree more - this or the (possible) new creative is exactly what i need.. and for the UK too! *sigh*

16gb max - FAIL!
I'm waiting for something with 32gb or 64gb. Not everyone can put their library into 14 gb of music. And those who can't, sometimes don't want a brick either. So far we only have iPod Classic with 80gb and Zune with 80gb but second is only available in USA.
iRiver is just one of many who fails to get my interest :)
Creative Zen is said to be nice with 32gb but you can't access it in any way other than copy music (I can't use it as a flash, means FAIL!).
Iain @ May 30th 2008 5:15PM
The only question now is price.
amp3 have my complete respect for carrying such a diverse selection of DAPs but they do seem to gouge a bit.
Iain @ May 30th 2008 5:19PM
@Shinigami: the Zen's sound quality is meant to be God-awful and the SD card integration is a joke.
If capacity and size are important, you'd be much better off with something like a Cowon D2 - ok, it only comes in up to 16GB but it will also read from an SDHC card (ie up to a further 32GB some time soon) and unlike the Zen, it completely integrates the contents of the card with the music stored on the player as well.

the day i buy a portable media player that i am 100% satisfied with is when it is something akin to ipod touch, but made by sony walkman (i am loyal to the pioneers!) and is very compact, incredibly stylish, and has HUGE space for me to put every dvd i own on it. (for example, all the movies tv shows and everything) then i will a happy owner, (i would pay very good money for something like this, and one day im sure it will be the normal, but ntil then :'(
retro77 @ May 30th 2008 2:34PM
I like! Looks way better than other, comparable products, currently on the market.

I was thinking about getting a new pmp with archos first and ipod touch second but this has just blown a hole in my frontrunners and i may want one of these.

The Blackberry was highly successfulwith the wheel and not the ball for its UI, this Spinn looks like about the same concept, only spinning and not a dial or ball.
retro77 @ May 30th 2008 2:43PM

I'm still going to save my pennies on their "Unit2" whenever the hell that gets released.
Vic the One @ May 30th 2008 5:11PM
Wow, I like it... I like it a lot! I might have to hold off on getting a new media player until this beauty's out in the U.S.

I want to take a brick tied to a rope to the fucktards head who think that 16GB is good enough for movies. DAMN IT stop this bullshit. Drop a 60GB HD in there and add 512 or 1GB of cache to take care of spin up issues on the HD.
this is the sole reason why I picked up a 160GB iPod. Not because I think its the greatest player on the planet. Storage, storage, storage. I was thrown on a plane last week for a trip to TX to do some quick training. I was in the subburbs and didn't have anything to do. Whip out my iPod, hook it up to the TV and the complete New BSG up to the last episode, Star Trek: TOS Season 1, Star Trek: TAS, Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Sunshine, Appleseed, Appleseed: Ex Machina, Armitage III, Enchanted, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gasaraki, Batman Begins, All the LotR movies, From the Earth to the Moon, All the Star Wars, all the Star Treks, and all the James Bond movies. Enough variety that I can find something no matter what I'm in the mood for.
So yah. Screw this 16GB crap.
lightavail @ May 31st 2008 5:54AM
If you dont like it don't buy it, your opinion doesn't represent every potential buyer. Iriver are bringing out the P20 with 120gb hard drive later this year, is that enough storage for you?
ijyt @ May 31st 2008 11:07AM
I really like the minimalist design. Might just pick up the 16GB model, and stick in a 16GB MicroSD.
Valgas @ May 31st 2008 12:21PM
Waybe I'll wait for the D2 a little bit longer.
Bernie B @ Jun 1st 2008 5:15AM
This is nice, but whatever happened to the W10?
Robert Cottingham @ Jan 9th 2009 12:43PM
I spinn shows storage of 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. Why cannot I find a price or anyone selling the 16GB model
