Sony Ericsson's Paris phone gets demoed in video
If you just can't get enough news about Sony Ericsson's forthcoming Symbian UIQ touchscreen phone -- currently known as Paris -- perhaps this promo video of the thing in action can help. Sure, these appears to be pre-renders, but it does whet the appetite for things to come with the device, and who can complain about that pop-up weather app and confirmation that this will have a flash for its camera? Also, the dude in the clip sports a totally stylish cardigan. Watch the whole thing after the break and see for yourself.

Of course it'll have a flash.
Rjay @ May 31st 2008 2:15AM
Flash is cool but its best feature by far is its ability to stand up on its own and do a little dance when placed on a table.

Sigh. The trouble of being a part of this generation is that whenever you hear "Paris", you invariably think "Hilton".
Anyway, this doesn't look too bad at all. But the phone I'm currently waiting to see out and about is the Xperia. Good stuff coming from SE.
supermeerkat @ May 30th 2008 9:41AM
What about France? Or the place the Greek's fought their way to in order to rescue Helen?
So, the generation which you're a part of isn't very well read then?

supermeekrat (I'll take it to mean you didn't wanna type meerkat)
Congratulations - you got it! That's precisely the point.
My generation has to be the dumbest one yet, and Paris Hilton is the epitome of it. While I have tried my level best to abstain from the things that people nowadays find fascinating and interesting, it's impossible to hide completely. Hence: Paris: Hilton.
Oh well. At least we're not a total loss. I'm part of this generation too. :D

supermeerkat:
Ummm... If memory serves correct, I believe Paris was a character in that epic struggle and not a place. In fact he was the one who started the whole darn thing.
Nice try though...

You're quite right, lads: I've put my foot in it. Must remember to fully engage humour / irony / sarcasm detectors before posting.
I'll get my coat.

A physical keypad.... how quaint... there is something nice about such antiquainted technology... like a rotary phone...or two cups and a string...
iPhone FTW!
fred @ May 30th 2008 9:29AM
Um, how did you type your post?
Vidit Bhargava @ May 30th 2008 10:16AM
"antiquainted" huh...lame
Argot @ May 30th 2008 11:34AM
"there is something nice about such antiquainted technology".
Yeah, kind of like a phone without 3G....
Jaws @ May 30th 2008 12:38PM
don't forget the stellar camera! It was groundbreaking... umm.. in 1990.
:P
fanman @ May 30th 2008 1:05PM
"Yeah, kind of like a phone without 3G...."
..., camera that's any good, video recording, bluetooth, sim free pay as you go, music support from any program, flash, java...
dervheid @ May 30th 2008 9:00AM
So, basically, if you touch Paris up the right way, a wonderful interactive experience can be had!
FNARR, FNARR!
barry99705 @ May 30th 2008 12:07PM
Without all the nasty side effects too!
Shiver @ May 30th 2008 9:16AM
You probably don't text with one hand, because the numbered keypad is still the best way to do this.
boredtoday @ May 30th 2008 9:35AM
OMG this phone turns you gay at night o.O
Vidit Bhargava @ May 30th 2008 10:05AM
why...watching a video featuring a woman means you are a gay???
Michel @ May 30th 2008 9:54AM
I have the M600i which is the candybar version of this phone, without the cam basically.
It is the best phone i have ever owned...combined with a 4gb M2 card i got most of my music on it aswel as tomtom GPS europe (i have an external bluetooth GPS device in my car) and it works flawlessly.
The keypad used in the paris is exactly the same as the M600i. Why? Because its downright brilliant. The M600i was not the most popular phone, but for its features it deserved to be.
And just on a sidenote, the M600i battery life is amazing. I talk about 20 minutes a day on my cell, listen to music for at least 3 hours a day, use the gps about twice a week for 2 hours and i only have to recharge once a week. And i never put it off (at night).
Thats pretty amazing if you ask me.
Vidit Bhargava @ May 30th 2008 10:10AM
dude...i use the P1i which is the upgraded version of M600i...i totally agree with you on this...the keyboard is compact and fast to use
i chat with multiple people on fring everyday without any trouble...did someone mention iphone's keyboard here
the camera is amazing and the battery life is awesome too...for me it doesnt last a week as i use wifi a lot but still i recharge it once in 4 days
these phones are amazing...i am sure Paris will be great too.
Whtrbt7 @ May 30th 2008 11:34AM
Looks like a thick HTC Touch Dual. SEMC should just switch to Windows Mobile already and leave Symbian.
NightBlade @ May 30th 2008 2:00PM
Yeah, but it has better features.
Reid @ May 30th 2008 2:54PM
That's hot.
Karn Eggie @ Jun 4th 2008 5:56PM
