Aftermarket Eee PC 701 touchscreen is supposedly easy to install
Got an Eee PC 701 you want to take touchscreen? jkkmobile found an no-soldering-necessary aftermarket solution that makes it look oh so easy to give your Eee some touch input. Of course, you take your time (and especially money -- approximately $340 US) into your own hands ordering off of Chinese part supplier sites, so be appropriately warned.

Ive personally used this one, touch screen Eee IS awesome, the screen is more sturdy too i found.
ScOObyDoo @ Jun 1st 2008 9:54PM
None of those come with a small enough USB hub for inside the screen. But that doesn't justify the insane price of this kit.
Travis @ Jun 1st 2008 11:56PM
That one is different. Do some research before you post.
clak @ Jun 1st 2008 9:27PM
I'd rather get an MBA than this cheap POS
MBA + OSX = Ultimate UMPC Experience.
Rubicon @ Jun 1st 2008 9:28PM
Of course...that one point three kilo cake cutter is perfect
Metkis @ Jun 1st 2008 9:30PM
Yeah, it's also how much more expensive? Yeah ~1800 is such a good price to pay for basically a note-taking web surfer...
dreamscape86 @ Jun 1st 2008 9:49PM
Claque, n. : Someone who is paid to clap or cheer for a particular performer, usually in a theatrical or musical performance, regardless of the individual's abilities.
Coincidence?
David @ Jun 1st 2008 10:06PM
mad vocabulary skillz, I am impressed
Clak, your cover is blown. Begone foul troll !
thebigDallas @ Jun 1st 2008 10:34PM
i am pretty sure you have no idea the point of the eee pc, and the MBA definitely does not have a touch screen, so this wins hands down
Richard Lai @ Jun 1st 2008 10:54PM
@clak: go shove the sharp edge of the MacBook Air up your troll arse!
eggothewaffle @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:36AM
I know fanboys tend to be one dimensional, but I wonder if that's what causes them to forget that portability isn't one dimensional?

Does the iPod touch come standard with a 300 Horsepower Engine?
No? My Car does.
Billy Fiul @ Jun 2nd 2008 2:33AM
What does becoming a Master of Business Administration have to do with the Eee PC? And please, don't joke about polycystic ovary syndrome.
Metkis @ Jun 1st 2008 9:27PM
It's an old EEE too... I'd rather wait and see if Asus finally gets a hint at the demand of this. Besides, that screen just seems too small to really have a use for it.
iEye @ Jun 1st 2008 9:30PM
No Multi-Touch?
No thanks....
ScOObyDoo @ Jun 1st 2008 9:34PM
? What would you do with a multitouch panel in Linux or XP anyway? Neither of them support it.
Metkis @ Jun 1st 2008 9:36PM
he'd probably have multi-touch on his breakfast if he could.
clak @ Jun 1st 2008 9:44PM
you know what does have multi-touch?
iPod Touch.
Mam00th @ Jun 1st 2008 9:49PM
I hope it was a typo and that you really meant :
no tanks...
Else you're a douche
thebigDallas @ Jun 1st 2008 10:35PM
you know what does have multi-touch....
your mom
Richard Lai @ Jun 1st 2008 10:55PM
@thebigDallas: dang, was about to say the same thing. Amen bro!

Wow, will someone please ban this troll? He just runs around posting stupid things to make Mac users look bad.

Hi Ryan,
the company is a Taiwanese company, quoted price ($2350) converts to about $77.50 USD, plus shipping and handling, I suppose.
The page also says some special Bluetooth version, available until June 5th.

Quite right!
"I compared An iPod Touch to A Zune, and I found that the iPod was far superior and the Zune quite lacking. Perhaps it was the lack of Multi-Touch..."
Thanks for the informative grammar tips...
An iPhone
An iPod
An iBook
An Apple Product
A MacBook air
A 3G iPhone
t3_slider @ Jun 1st 2008 11:32PM
iEye, are you paid to do this, or are you just one of the most pathetic people in the world? Have you ever touched a girl? (Well, knowing you, you'll compare that last sentence to the iPod touch, which has multi-touch...douchebag)
Abuzar @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:49AM
What the hell does Multi Touch even do? It's a useless Gimmick.
phanbouy @ Jun 2nd 2008 2:34AM
hey Ab, didn't know Gimmick was a proper noun. Hey ya know, a lot of companies including your beloved Microsoft are developing multitouch devices. betch'all change your tune soon enough
Abuzar @ Jun 2nd 2008 6:21AM
No I wont. Until today I have not seen one good reason to have multi touch on an desktop OS.
Greg Mcp @ Jun 1st 2008 10:03PM
From an initial "meh" I had about this machine, my attitude has changed so much. Seeing it out in the public, it makes alot of sense. An easy thing to carry about. And if it becomes this hackable gadget, then it becomes so much cooler.
Puma7 @ Jun 1st 2008 10:27PM
Where is a reliable place to buy a touchscreen that will work inside the Eee PC? Has anyone else done this procedure, and are there any tutorials? I'm very interested in doing this and would like more information. If anyone could point me somewhere to help, maybe forums or tutorials, that would be great.
tha-don @ Jun 1st 2008 11:37PM
www.EeeUser.com
for shizzle...
Caleb @ Jun 2nd 2008 3:14AM
You may ttry a search on instructables.com If a mod's been done it usualy shows up there or on a simular site.
emailtabs @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:40AM
Jkk was the first to do thios so go to jkkmobile for his vid and then on to EEEuser.com for instructions specs help etc!.
Please remember to use the search function as its full of geeks and not searching really gets their hackles up.
I hacked mine to shit to get it in there a couple of months ago and i love it.
Mike @ Jun 1st 2008 10:35PM
Hey I'm not a mac fanboy or anything....but I was wondering, cause i'm sure someone else did it somewhere....
can you throw a larger version of this touchscreen on a MBA? its already really cramped in there, but that would make it pretty sweet...
or does OSX not support the hardware?
NeoDarkSaver @ Jun 2nd 2008 2:25AM
not bad. i would rather just make some more ports though. haha
emailtabs @ Jun 2nd 2008 8:44AM
Add some then!. i've only added one but you can safely run an extra 2 usb ports outta this thing without any major skills, more if you kill the camera and add in a coupla hubs, i reckon with a little (Dirty word) "Effort" you could be running a total of 12 usb.
you powers going to be zapped within a minute or two if you try to use them all though!
swish @ Jun 5th 2008 7:35AM
Is this exact model available on eBay? I want to purchase one, but unsure where to buy. Dont speak Chinese, so I cant use the Mobile01 site. The ones on eBay currently have a different connector? Like an external USB connection.
Please advise.
