ASUS' UFOTO UF735 digiframe doubles as secondary PC display
Finally, a little innovation in the midst of watered-down, me-too digital photo frames. Here we have the UFOTO UF735, which exhibits a 7-inch 800 x 480 resolution display, USB 2.0 connectivity, headphone jack, 128MB of built-in memory, integrated speakers, a multicard reader for handling JPEG / BMP / GIF / MP3 files and your choice of silver, pink or blue frame colors. Beyond those yawn-inducing stats, you'll find a swank sub-display function, which enables owners to use it as a secondary display (SideShow, anyone?) on their PC. As is customary for ASUS, it's not doling out pricing / release information just yet, but this one may actually be worth paying attention to when it finally lands.

obvious troll...
Richard Lai @ Jun 1st 2008 10:51PM
I disagree - these are one of the best looking digital frame on the market right now. The colour range may be a bit weird, but the grey one totally suits my taste.
Plus that must be a damn fine screen they're using (about 133ppi), unlike the cheap ones with crap pixel density.
And FFS - what's with people mentioning OSX over everything these days? Plus what you said didn't really make sense anyway.
Murphy Mac @ Jun 1st 2008 10:51PM
Not interested without WIFI and RSS.
Richard Lai @ Jun 1st 2008 10:59PM
I was thinking the same regarding wifi - a wireless control over several frames (if you're rich) in the house is a lot easier than having to load photos onto several memory cards.
But then one can argue that this will make extra power consumption.
Either way, it depends on the price tag. We shall see.
Flashpoint @ Jun 1st 2008 10:56PM
With that resolution, I think I can actually run CRYSIS at 60 Frames per second.
PCIV @ Jun 1st 2008 10:58PM
Anyone think they made this to go with the eeeDPC?
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:12PM
don't worry Richard, the world hasn't gone crazy, its just clak over and over again trolling every post.
I believe the recipe he's describing is apple soup. It's a good thing his Mac pro blends.
@Clak: I thought you had a mac pro, do you have an imac as well?
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:14PM
I think they have got loads of 7" screens left after stopping 701 production, and are like WTF can we do with these..
dspalding @ Jun 1st 2008 11:15PM
I guess they had some extra lcds from the eeePC 701's and decided to make these
dspalding @ Jun 1st 2008 11:15PM
David beat me to it
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:24PM
It was close : ), now let's all flame Clak
Mike @ Jun 1st 2008 11:34PM
yay good idea :D
Mike @ Jun 1st 2008 11:33PM
david told me to flame you so here goes.
you, my friend, are a banana.
zomg0t @ Jun 1st 2008 11:36PM
You suck, clak!
Hopefully you'll buy so much apple shit you won't have enough money to afford internet and we'll all be spared your ignorance!
Go die in a fire!
iEye @ Jun 1st 2008 11:40PM
I wonder how well the pictures I took with my iPhone will look on this product?
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:52PM
iEye, I hope a literal interpretation of the phrase "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" leads to your death from an otherwise easily resolved health issue.
lawyer bird @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:01AM
Terrible, because the iphone camera is ass?
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:45PM
haha good stuff
Clak, I hope you get raped by Steve Ballmer.
I hear he's neither micro nor soft, so it wouldn't be all bad all bad
DarkLight @ Jun 1st 2008 11:46PM
Why the hell does everyone put spakers and mp3 players on the photo frames?
It's useless, no one likes the crappy sound, and every one already has something to play music with...
derX @ Jun 1st 2008 11:53PM
Whoa.
Yes, Clak, as I've gathered, is a troll....but some of these comments in response are just plain disturbing.
Damn...just damn.
David @ Jun 1st 2008 11:57PM
I know, nobody should have to live without internets
WildParadise @ Jun 1st 2008 11:58PM
That's no innovation, there was already a model that serve as secondary screen, it was usb, windows only, hope this one gives more options.
zomg0t @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:05AM
@David
Yeah, maybe I went a little too far...
darkstar @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:13AM
engadget,
how can we get together and vote to ban someone? this dude is seriously annoying!
derX @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:22AM
It'd probably be no good, darkstar, he'll just get another account.

Anyone else notice how clak and iEye seem to comment with the same iCult iNsanity on the same posts and that the accounts were created within 6 days of each other?
Clak = iEye?
zomg0t @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:56AM
@derX
No, the iCult probably has more than one member, but they do all sound like the same brainless drone.
Eddy @ Jun 2nd 2008 6:56AM
Now if they only would make it a touch screen! That would be handy for my HTPC.
Jim @ Jun 2nd 2008 9:06AM
Can it display videos smoothly (and in what format)?
I have been waiting for a larger digital picture frame that could run my DIVX movie collection off a SD card.
Paul Moon @ Jun 2nd 2008 12:41PM
Once again, a widescreen display for non-widescreen photos. Brought to you by cheapass manufacturers who get better bulk buys of LCD panels designed for portable DVD players.
Christian @ Jun 2nd 2008 6:48PM
I do hope they release more color options and better pricing when this comes out. I've been tempting to buy one but was still iffy if I should get a pretty one like Sony's digital-frame-only version or get a multifunction one like Chumby. This one since it can be a second display would be awesome choice. Just need pricing to finish my decision.
Stuart @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:32AM
Personally I think this is pretty cool and I'll be keeping a watch out for when they come on the market. I've got a HTPC and I think this would make a great little vista sideshow monitor. Without turning on the TV it would be good to see say, weather reports, latest news rss, tv guide for the next couple of hours (although you'd have to squint!). I'm not sure what sort of gadgets are available for sideshow, but no doubt with products like these people may start making their own - I know I would! :-D
Alex @ Jun 12th 2008 9:45AM
looks like its available now at US$233.93. This store's even got it with free global shipping (www.qbitonline.com)
