Dash Express now $300 on Amazon
If you were looking to snag a Dash Express, perhaps saving a Benjamin could be the excuse you're looking for. We don't know if it's because these things aren't selling well or if there was just some kind of pricing error, but the Dash Express -- was originally set to debut at $600, but then dropped to $400 at release -- is now on Amazon for $300. (And yes, it's still going for $400 on Dash's own site.)[Via Gear Diary]

iPhone v2
iEye @ Jun 1st 2008 6:27PM
Short, sweet, and to the point. I could not have said it any better.
Jeffrey @ Jun 1st 2008 6:44PM
I hope it's Dash v2 instead. This current one is just too bulky for my taste.
Nohone @ Jun 1st 2008 6:46PM
How much is Apple paying the two of you (Stinky and iEye) to make a post about the iPhone in every single article, even if has nothing to do with the phone?
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 7:06PM
Actually its called the HTC touch diamond which is gonna destroy the Iphone when it is released in the U.S.
iEye @ Jun 1st 2008 7:13PM
Unfortunately, the new 3G iPhone will naturally exterminate whatever offerings HTC has created. HTC still uses old ouch screen technology, Apple cares about its customers and strives to offer them the best use experience possible.
The Diamond is a perfect example of no form and no function.
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 7:25PM
wow. have you not heard anything about the HTC touch diamond. The new touchflo is 100x better than the old and the UI is amazing. Its smaller and has a better camera and supports faster data while the iphone is still on edge. and i know people are gonna say "well the 3g iphone is gonna be sweet". Exactly its gonna be sweet but until then the HTC touch diamond is the best one out there
iEye @ Jun 1st 2008 7:46PM
You enjoy your HTC for the remaining 8 days. 3G iPhone will change everything.
June 9th... the world stops and listens...
PCIV @ Jun 1st 2008 7:55PM
Only problem, anyone running Windows Mobile will be suffering from inherant problems of M$. It lags, and nothing is as smooth as the iPhone on WM. Running S2U2 and having both my iTouch holding friends telling me "IT LAGS!!!ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!" each time enforces the point.
JMMGoalster @ Jun 1st 2008 7:57PM
ummm hate to break it to u iEye but the world isnt gunna stop and listen. i for one could care less about the iPhone. Yes its new and exciting...but with cell phone competition how it is, plus android, itl be obsolete relatively soon. i wouldnt call a 3G iPhone an "earth stopping" announcement....
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 8:00PM
@ iEye i know the iphone is cool but there definitely some better phones out there and the HTC touch diamond is definitely one of them
Za @ Jun 1st 2008 10:18PM
I just am going to have to comment to throw this in there: large scale availability of the iPhone v2 in the United States will occur well before large scale availability of the Touch Diamond. Based on ATT's hiring patterns and the fact that the current iPhone has been unavailable for purchase for several days now, I don't think you can make the case that Apple hasn't already ramped up production of the new iPhone.
I am not plugging Apple by any means; it just bothers me to see so many claim that the Touch Diamond is already "throwing it down" when it is, in reality, not very easy to get one's hands on.
Steffen Jobbs @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:30AM
The HTC Touch Diamond is just a smartphone and little else. The 3G iPhone is Steve Job's integrated vision to all mankind. Once the 3G iPhone is introduced on June 9th, the Touch Diamond will become a tiny footnote in handset history as one of the many contenders that failed to stop the iPhone's quest for world domination.
With WWDC a little more than a week away, what could be more important than the 3G iPhone? Say if world peace is #1 then the 3G iPhone is an easy #2.
Please continue the Low-Ranking because you're powerless to do anything more and it won't change the facts one iota.
su27chaos @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:42AM
i like htc tournado still going strong with new wm6.1. i'm going to stick with it for a long time until it stop working. had this since late 2005.
Mile @ Jun 1st 2008 6:24PM
This whole "Benjamin" thing must stop!
Neebs @ Jun 1st 2008 6:34PM
Engadget should get with the times and use C-Note.
Ryan Trevisol @ Jun 1st 2008 6:38PM
I'd prefer the occasional "benji".
Dave @ Jun 1st 2008 11:35PM
I like to refer to it as 2% of a Spitzer honey....
Qsat @ Jun 1st 2008 6:26PM
Still look ugly
ChillyCat @ Jun 1st 2008 6:48PM
Those of you attempting to compare a standalone GPS device with a cell-phone are way-way off base.
NO phone will ever replace the PND. And since less than 3% of U.S. users actually own an iphone, the new iphone will not effect the % by more than 1-2 % points.
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 6:57PM
you obviously have not heard of the new telenav on all the new windows mobile based smartphones. I definitely think that trumps the PND just because its 8x more practical and just as effective......
Ron @ Jun 1st 2008 6:49PM
I'd buy one if there was no monthly fee and the unit was much slimmer..
Carl @ Jun 1st 2008 6:57PM
In other words, you'd buy something else?
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 6:59PM
they have this out already its called .................A MAP
Ron @ Jun 1st 2008 7:04PM
@Carl -
I've tried pretty much every GPS brand on the market (Gramin, Tomtom, Naivgon, HP, etc..). I currently use a Tomtom GO920.
Why haven't I tried the Dash? Two reasons..
First, the size. When I leave my car I like to take my GPS with me. There is no way that thing would fit in any pocket.
Two is of course the cost. Paying a monthly fee for the use of FREE GPS is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. If you read some of the reviews on amazon the traffic feature is not very accurate any way.
ScOObyDoo @ Jun 1st 2008 8:07PM
@Ron; you are not paying for GPS, you are paying for the online services offered by the unit (Gas prices, local Yahoo search, traffic etc...). Even the Garmin with MSN direct (for gas prices) has a monthly subscription.
If you've ever tried finding something using the useless POI database on most GPS units, you'll know that having access to a search engine on the road is awesome.
Also; you don't NEED to subscribe, you can chose to let it lapse after the 3 month trial and just use it as a day to day GPS unit. But it's the online services that IMHO make the Dash so impressive.
That said; dropping the price by another $100 so close after launch is worrying.
ScOObyDoo @ Jun 1st 2008 6:51PM
Yeah, that explains why milk was on sale today at my grocery store.
Rumor has it that the 3G iPhone will be such an important source of nutrition that it's no wonder the milk manufacturers are scared.
P.S. Since when has GPS been "cutting edge"? Sure, Apple will present their GPS as "amazing" and "unique", but unless Steve Jobs launched his own GPS satellites, it'll be the same old boring GPS found on almost any decent smartphone besides the current iPhone.
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 6:55PM
Sure the thing is cheap and looks cool, but in the long run when your driving down the freeway talking on your phone and looking for directions to the nearest TacoBell and your car gets T-boned because your not paying attention and your new GPS thingy breaks and so does your car what then.......ill be laughing on the side of the road.
Big John @ Jun 1st 2008 7:10PM
You act like there is nothing else to distract a driver in a car. Like say, the radio. Or the air condition/heating. Or the windows. Or other passengers. Or dashboard warning lights. Or... you get my point.
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 7:11PM
Touche
ScooterDe @ Jun 1st 2008 7:22PM
T-boned on the freeway? More than one driver at fault there, I'd say.
Steve @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:17PM
You make a good point Sly Fox. The Diamond seems like a really cool phone that could totally put the iphone away. Give them a friggen medal, they have been able to out do the technology of a phone that was announced over a year ago. I guess the HTC Touch can sit at the top for a week until the new iphone comes out. Meanwhile any diamond owner will be stuck with a v1 phone for probably another year until they decide the try to compete the then year old v2 iphone.
PEZ @ Jun 1st 2008 7:20PM
Chocolate, peanuts, caramel, its delicious.
The Nuvifone is going to suplex the iPhone AND Touch Diamond into a fucking cactus for fun.
Sly Fox @ Jun 1st 2008 7:27PM

happy now
charles @ Jun 2nd 2008 11:01AM
Having been one of the "beta test drivers" I could see this becoming something useful - if I didn't buy an iPhone.
DorianGray @ Jun 1st 2008 9:50PM
@Sly Fox
Yeh, bud. We're all happy you like standing on the side of the road laughing at car accidents.
oh wait. at an intersection**
sorry.

I haven't ??
And you got this information from ______ ??
I'm interested in knowing.
Seriously, PND's have no fear from the phone[y] folks.
clak @ Jun 1st 2008 9:21PM
who the hell wants to buy this, what a waste of money.
i'd take a macbook air over this any day of the week
georgel @ Jun 1st 2008 9:43PM
A macbook air over what? I dont know if your comparing a 2000-3000$ laptop to a 300$ dash gps or what? I must say some of the comments in these forums just boggle my mind. People putting down the iphone which has by far the best touchscreen and most storage space than any phone out there. There are always things to improve but i tried all these other touch phones and they are not good in my opinion, when directly compared to an iphone. no other phone has the same great mp3 playback like the iphone, sure many have mp3 but most dont store 8 or 16 gigs either. second, this post is about a gps not an iphone. The dash express is a great gps as it stands right now. i love mine and it is very useful when looking for movie times, gas prices, traffic and always up to date poi and roads, with unlimited poi thanks to yahoo search.
Lastly to the guy who loves his dash but is worried about a 100$ price drop. No one said they dropped the price, it could be amazon sale, or a mistake. but didnt apple lower the price of the iphone by $100 shortly after its release? Some of you really just make stupid comments without thinking anything through.
God_Save_The_Queen @ Jun 1st 2008 9:49PM
Ok, that's it. What the heck has a MacbookAir got to do with this thing?
I think you should be bent over, your "cheeks" spread far and wide and then cayenne pepper laboriously rubbed into it while a colony of red fire-ants are invited to the occasion.
So how's it feel.....
lawyer bird @ Jun 1st 2008 11:49PM
It's a joke...I laughed.
Phil @ Jun 1st 2008 10:40PM
Crutchfield also lowered the price, so I'm guessing that its not an error.

DustoMan @ Jun 1st 2008 11:01PM
I wish I could use this where I live, but it's too rural and I already know how to get places. If I lived in a major metro, this device would so be in my car.
Bob @ Jun 1st 2008 11:31PM
this is a comments section for which link ? iphone ...Htc ? MB air ?
e. david zotter @ Jun 2nd 2008 1:00AM
Why buy one of these when the same functionality will be part of the next iPhone?
It is lights out for all these guys in 24 months (Dash, Garmin, Tomtom, etc)....plus Apple's crowdsourcing with be far more effective and accurate with a larger population to sample from.
Krgrds,

Neoprimal @ Jun 2nd 2008 3:38AM
You people are so friggin' ridiculous it's almost not worth taking the flamebait....
Alas, like most people so far, I can't help myself.
Just in case some of you are actually serious about cell phones replacing automotive GPS units, here's a scenerio.....
You have no idea where you are and your cell phone rings, or you need to be on the phone - what then...genius? Cell phone GPS units are novelties. They're great to use outdoors for gps treasure hunts, hiking, etc. They may somewhat replace PORTABLE GPS units, but it's stupid to even consider them replacing real bonafide specialized vehicle GPS units, for the plain fact that it takes away the, subconscious use of your phone.
Both already tend to be a distraction...having them in the same package and using them for both purposes at once, will be detrimental. Anyway, lets wait and see if the Iphone whatever will 'kill
