iHome launches the iH69 and iH70 computer speaker iPod docks
Just when you thought iPod docks couldn't get any cooler -- bam! -- along comes iHome with the "world's first" computer speakers for an iPod. Yes, we also started to pound out an uncontrollable rhythm on the snooze button the first time we heard about these, but don't forget that the iH69 and iH70 allow you to dock, charge and jam out to your iPod without adding any extra fuss to your decked out computer audio superstation. The dock / speakers are available for pre-order at $99.99 and $129.99, respectively, and will be on store shelves "soon" -- which we assume will be sometime this month.

Klipsch shoulda thought of this already.
Gingerbread Man @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:09PM
Isnt this kinda pointless? The songs get on your ipod through iTunes....and class we all know where iTunes is, on the computer of course. Why not just save your iPod some battery life and play the songs from the computer.
KEROLiUKAS @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:14PM
and besides, who would want such crappy speakers for their PC? unless it's like in an office or something...
happy_penguin @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:54PM
Umm, this charges your iPhone battery while it's docked.
eggothewaffle @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:14PM
Why is the iPod occluding the bottom half of the left speaker? Tsk tsk.
eggothewaffle @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:50PM
It would make more sense to have the iPod attached on the side of the left speaker (or right speaker...maybe they could let the consumer choose!?!?) but still facing forward.
That way, the user still gets to see the iPod's screen, but the speaker's drivers aren't being blocked.
Mischa Lockton @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:15PM
because whoever made this is FAR FAR FAR from an audiophile
Jon @ Jun 4th 2008 11:24AM
Not to mention, any hard drive based ipod will be wiped if the speakers' magnets aren't properly shielded. might be interesting to listen to sound files as they get corrupted
Suresh @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:14PM
Ginger Bread Man,
I agree with you. But not everyone has their computer on all the times, and they want their music to start immediately, which is where these gadgets come into work. i dont think that these people launch these things with out enough research and survey.
But i like your thinking about saving the battery - very eco.
It would be great if that station also charges your iphone.
Con: i dont think putting iphone covering half of the speaker is a good idea. I dont think they have a very good acoustic engineer.

I bet they sound proper sh*t.
Gimme some good $1500 studio monitors any day.
Gimmicky, plastic, 2", 2w peak speakers with a frequency response of a tin can can not be made good simply by adding an iPod dock.
atrain @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:22PM
ARG!!!
Unless you are a serious audiophile, I doubt you are going to notice the sound difference between the line-out from the dock and the standard headphone port.
That being said, why can't idiots figure out that they can plug any computer speaker into the headphone port of their iPod, and save themselves $130?
Suresh @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:30PM
I agree, but you know what people like to have something to dock to their i- i i - pod/touch/phone. Otherwise, creative, griffin, and belking would not make so much money.
happy_penguin @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:56PM
I'm petitioning for a ban on the phrase "that being said".
SHoe @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:07PM
Point taken about having to be a serious audiophile to "notice the sound difference between the line-out from the dock and the standard headphone port". But you don't have to be a serious audiophile to notice how crappy these speakers + iPod are going to sound.
Not being a snob - that 'snob' argument has caused the bar to be lowered way too far for audio quality. Bad enough that most consumer electronic stores offer up a sea of plastic junk instead of proper speakers (and many are crpa-sounding multi piece 5.1 speaker junk setups - those crack me up!), but they they have to dilute the quality-per-dollar ratio even further by adding silly iPod docks and other pointless features that insure that you dollar is not going to sound quality. Thousands of dollars aren't needed for decent sound - stick to the basics.

iWaste, but then again, we're talking about people on the iPod bandwagon.
David @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:36PM
But will it fit my Rio Karma?
happy_penguin @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:57PM
No, and it won't play Crysis or even Doom for that matter so don't bother asking.

"Dock, charge, and Jam"
This is great and all, but does "dock" mean it also allows you to sync with your computer? Or do you still need the regular USB for that? If it doesn't sync, it sorta stinks.
corgilabsG @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:16PM
here's a tip from an electronics design engineer to you:
don't expose your devices to un-warranted vibrations or phonons (longitudinal or transverse)
Gadgeteer @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:33PM
It looks like the speakers are above the iPod, not behind it. That's probably why they are so much taller than the iPod. No way would a company be dumb enough to put the iPod right in front of a thumpin speaker. At least I freaking hope not!
Mike Bertolino @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:14PM
nice, i forgot about these pieces. hopefully these will boost my macbook's sound.
