Samsung Instinct gets unboxed in someone's office

Thanks to a tipster -- and some loose lips over at Sprint -- we present the first unboxing of this would-be iPhone contender. Well, what are you waiting for? Hit the read link and see how it all goes down.
Update: Apparently the source site is down. We're throwing a couple of pics after the break until they get back on their feet.

InSTINKt.....better hold my nostrils closed.
Take it out of the box. Try it. Yawn. Put it back in the box. Head on over with camping gear to the Manhattan Apple Cube Store to join about 1000 impatient buyers waiting in line for the 3G iPhone.
In the first hour of release of the 3G iPhone, Youtube will have about 100 iPhone unboxings, so Samsung better get their act together.
riggs @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:02PM
didnt know youtube measured sales success. i feel sorry for my generation.

Down with the overpriced Apple Product menace!
Sorry, I'm not fanboyish, I'm just getting sick of Apple's overpriced, overrated junk. (sorry about that last, it's not junk, but most of their stuff has been matched or exceeded for cheaper)
macserv @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:01PM
No device out there has matched, let alone exceeded, the level of fit and finish -- the overall user experience -- of the iPhone. There are devices out there with more hardware crammed in, or more (mostly lousy) software available, but none of them do what they do as well as the iPhone does.
The 3G iPhone is only going to widen that UX gap, and with its Microsoft ActiveSync/Exchange capabilities built in, the door is opened now for so many more users; entire classifications of users; to switch to Apple's device.
Apple put more R&D, miniaturization, industrial design, hardware and software development resources into this than they have for any other product since the original Macintosh. I'm sorry if you can't afford one, but since the $200 price drop, it has been WELL worth every penny. When it's subsidized by AT&T, it'll be a steal.
macserv @ Jun 3rd 2008 9:12PM
Oh, and @ iEye... c'mon... this thing is sexy, and that's one hell of a nice presentation.
switchbitch @ Jun 6th 2008 11:46AM
This Steffen Jobs guy is like some sort of iPhone borderline psychopath groupie. Kind of like a fanboi, but with a dark, sinister obsessive disorder. I bet the walls of his house are covered with pictures of Steve Jobs, haphazardly ripped out of magazines and scrawled with amateur but slightly creepy poetic sonnets written with his own blood, describing the pain of his unrequitted admiration. He doesn't sleep in a bed either, he has a giant iPhone box that he lies down in, and instead of a duvet he just closes the flaps of the giant box over himself as he slots in to the polystyrene receptacle, before heading off to the land of nod where he sometimes has bad dreams about undesirable things like third party applications.
Someone needs to inform him that those 1000 impatient buyers outside the Apple Cube are just idiots who were duped by some clever, but ultimately vacuous advertising. The kind of people who don't realise that the iPhone has the functionality of a handset from 2003, but because it looks good and it's in some fancy packaging, they think it's some miracle device. Frankly, I'm glad that Apple have marketed the iPhone to the lowbrow idiot hipsters, because it keeps these morons from buying quality devices like the Diamond or X1, for example.
So the next time you see Steffen Jobs at the restaurant with his girlfriend, who is actually a life-size cardboard cut out of an iPhone with the head of Steve Jobs, smile calmy to yourself in the knowledge that you had the good judgement to refrain from indulging in the vapid and pitiful iPhone hysteria, while he and his other 1000 idiot campers try to figure out how to cut and paste some text into an MMS.

Can't wait to see more pics / vids of this phone. Been wanting to see it for a while now in stores.

i work at sprint and we got one in sotres yesterday its fantastic! every one is going to love it!
Anthony @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:06PM
Why are people low ranking you? It's a general comment & I think worth being aware of. I can't use Spring (company is ATT) but they really seem to be picking up some good touchscreens.
whatishalo? @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:20PM
All the AAPL fanboi's are feeling threatened so any positive comment will get a thumbs down
chickenator @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:26PM
yeah i want to go to your sotres!
Idlemind @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:01PM
Sing me up for the DELETE or EDIT Button as well...
kjb434 @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:05PM
If this phone was a SIM card based WinMo phone, I would jump on it.
We've seen that WinMo can have a function skin put on it to make is more functional. Which allows ease of use and functionality that a business user needs.
I do still like Samsung going in this direction though. They are putting out some quality phones.
To me, whether it compares to the iphone or not is a non-issue.
Gingerbread Man @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:05PM
Look how big it is, that phone covers half of that persons desk in the picture!!!!
Munkcy @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:08PM
Maybe its a desk for a midget.
p3t3b2 @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:00PM
There is one picture missing it shows how small it is, these photos are most likely from a bad angle.
Jarhead2012 @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:11PM
It's a huge-a$$ box.
Chris Littmann @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:06PM
Site seems to be down. Was there more than this pair of pics? If so, I hope someone did the old Right Click --> Save As on' em.
Mike @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:18PM
Site got slash dotted it seems. Anyone have a mirror?
Has Sprint announced a price point on this phone?
haX0r @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:08PM
If the phone allows you to tether, then the $99 plan saves you money cuz you have top spend addtional $$$ to use the wireless adapter. So it would behoove the ones that use the card to get this and save $50 or so per month.
Dirtyliciouss @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:20PM
This + Sprint's $30 Sero plan is looking mighty fine vs the 3g iPhone...
Matt @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:34PM
sorry, but from what I've read, Instincts can't be put on SERO lines.
John @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:40PM
Sorry but I believe this phone will only be available with the "Simply Everything" plan which is $99. Honestly, you should get that plan anyway. It's the best cell phone plan available anywhere, by any carrier.
(sorry for the double post - i replied to the wrong person below)
p3t3b2 @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:11PM
"Everything plan is required for a SINGLE line (450, 900 or unlimited versions), for family plans new plans will be released June 15th. You MUST switch to one of those plans to activate the Instinct."
The family plans will include data/mess/voice, etc.
Dirtylicious @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:12PM
If it cant be used with a SERO plan than this phone is a waste of time for me.
Spending over $100 on a Simply Everything plan is ridiculous. Being a hetero-male, I do not need unlimited minutes.
bjsguess @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:31PM
I was all ready to switch to Sprint to use SERO and the Instinct. If it actually does work out that SERO is no eligible then it's a no go for me.
However, I'm still holding out hope. So far the advertisements have all said that you need the Everything plan. However, SERO is so unique that it wouldn't surprise me if they purposely omitted SERO from the marketing materials. For 99% of Sprint customers SERO doesn't mean anything.
LilTmac2003 @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:57PM
Actually, this DOES work with the SERO plan.
It WILL, and it DOES work.
p3t3b2 @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:22PM
I think at the end of the day it is up to the rep, when pressed Sprint will ultimately give in and allow the Instinct on other plans.
Clinton @ Jun 3rd 2008 5:31PM
how did you come about that conclusion?..
Apple hasn't even announced information on a 3G iphone yet.
I wouldn't pass judgment until Steve Jobs himself gives us the details on that holy day at WWDC.
Mobile Phone Diva @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:09PM
What does being a hetero-male have to do with needing or not needing unlimited minutes???
What if you do a lot of business on your phone, regardless of sex or orientation? Or have no land line phone, but still make a lot of calls? That could apply to anybody!
Achilles @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:26PM
HTC Diamond probably a better comparison for iPhone. I don't think this phone is going to compete much with the 3G iPhone. Sprint has a great way of getting a good phone and adding their crap software to mess it up. From the videos I've seen, the UI seems to have a lag. That's not good for a touch screen phone, especially not a new one.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not an iPhone user. I have Sprint. I just don't think this phone will be up to par. I can appreciate Sprint keeping it under $200. That's always nice but they don't give anything away so the price alone might signal the quality and user options of this phone.
I really hope I'm wrong!!!!
Jacob Theby @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:29PM
I currently have SERO + $30 blackberry internet. Selling my 8830 could be a nice option to drop the extra $30 for the blackberry net :)
John @ Jun 3rd 2008 3:34PM

Totally @ Jun 3rd 2008 6:54PM
@john
Yes, you have to sign up w/ a simply everthing plan but there isn't just one simply everything plan, the are three as in trois and tres, which are 450, 900, and Unlimited [minutes] priced 69.99, 89.99 and 99.99 respectively. You can sign up with any of them and $70 for 450min, Unlimited internet and text, GPS, and nights starting at 7pm, isn't bad. I know it means nothing to those who don't use those services which then they shouldn't even be looking at this phone. So stop posting repeatedly:

It's a consumer trying to be a smart phone. I think you'd be better of saving your Benjamins for a HTC Diamond or Rapheal. I think this phone is going to be a dud.
