Samsung's SGH-i900 comes clean in new photos, looks expensive
We've seen this puppy in awful renders and blurry spy shots, but now we've finally got a chance to view Samsung's SGH-i900 as intended. The latest entry in the touchscreen phone game doesn't look too shabby when it comes to specs (240 x 400 display, 5-megapixel camera, 16GB of onboard memory, HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0), but we get the feeling a lot of people will be springing for this for its looks. Fashion plates, start your engines.

woohoo first post. it looks like the iphones bastard child. not that i am an apple geek bc i have a blackberry curve which beats iphone by a million miles. it looks neat though.
EricR @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:39AM
The iPhone and what is the question
Das Boot @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:44AM
I dont know, inbreeding amongst iphones....
Rik @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:44AM
@EricR
A block of polished stainless steel?
iEye @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:50AM
:)
EricR @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:49AM
Isn't it funny, iEye doesn't even have to say anything to get annoying.
KEROLiUKAS @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:09AM
@ Das Boot ,
You fail at making a post if iEye replies with a smilie face to your post.
annoia @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:24AM
Fail! It looks like the Nokia 6300 made touchscreen to me. Is the iPhone then the 6300 bastard child?
Please stop comparing everything to the iPhone!
Zak @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:37AM
Hard not to compare this to the iPhone when it looks almost exactly like an iPhone. Chrome trim around the whole thing and everything. It's like Samsung isn't even trying any more.
Das Boot @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:48AM
I agree, so i guess I succeed in making a post after all, dont i? its the basterdized child of the iphone and stainless steel as someone said.
Wii60Warrior @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:49PM
It does look like an iPhone but unlike other iPhone wannabes it actually looks pretty DECENT.
Heck the specs along make it very interesting to me.
john @ Jun 5th 2008 1:57AM
inbreed, lol
Wiigee @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:39AM
Looks pretty sweet! ill take it! youre paying right?
Rik @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:43AM
Niiiiiiiice.... but what does it run on? I hope not some proprietary software or WinMo I hope?
Kyle Smith @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:45AM
It runs on Android of course! (I wish)
Rich @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:46AM
WinMo.
OnlyShawn @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:49AM
now, all kidding aside...how likely will it be to change your phone's firmware to android? As in...could people program ways to make android run on my, say, treo...sorta like rockbox does with the archox/ipod/etc.?
Vidit Bhargava @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:00AM
read the link...it explicitly says Windows Mobile 6.1
kjb434 @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:47AM
If it's a WinMo phone, I might pic this up.
HTC needs a little more competition in the WinMo market.
Coy @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:55AM
Sexy indeed! Coming state side?
Vidit Bhargava @ Jun 3rd 2008 10:59AM
wow...thats sexy
more or less the standard specs on a good smartphone...wonder what the UI will be like...will it beat the X1 or HTC Diamond or iPhone?
Can @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:02AM
Well, the specs are really good, and nice to see these specs on a Samsung. Now there can be a competitor against Nokia. (Please, I don't want iPhone fanboys' replies)
If only it ran on Symbian... it could be superior, but at least it's not Samsung's "default" platform (I dont know the name)
rawhead @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:25AM
Because clearly, the iPhone isn't a Nokia competitor.
Engadgetluvsappl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:32AM
No, the iPhone isn't a competitor to Nokia. Infact, Nokia's Nseries sales have continued to grow with the release of the iPhone.
rawhead @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:23PM
@Engadgetluvsappl
And since when has that been the definition of a competitor?
If Apple took just 1 customer away from a potential Nokia N-series (or whatever phone for that matter), then Apple is a Nokia competitor, period.
Sean @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:04AM
Look, iEye is smiling, what a cute iTroller. Shall we smile back? :)
TheCow5 @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:12AM
looks great, nice specs. Whats the price?
Please don't say 700$ or more.
etechshop @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:20AM
under $500 and I'm sold. :)
Abhishek @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:24AM
With specs like : 240 x 400 display, 5-megapixel camera, 16GB of onboard memory, HSDPA, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, this will surely sell above $500.00, at least!
Which sux =( ...below that, and I'm buying one!! If it does come to the US on at&t.
prashanthsharma @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:44PM
You forgot to mention this does have an accelerometer too.
Yes, I have played with it for a few minutes. It was very comfortable to hold and the video was reasonable decent.
jason51873 @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:25AM
Shouldn't this post be called "Keppin Real Fake Part XXHHGGWW"
The onslaught of the iPhone Clones will never stop.
Funny how any other design would have been labeled "New Phone has great specs but is UGLY" BUT because it looks 95% like an iPhone "we get the feeling a lot of people will be springing for this for its looks. Fashion plates, start your engines."
I would like to see some innovative designs rather then every mfg's version of the iPhone.
Engadgetluvsappl @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:34AM
How many ways can you make a phone where the majority of the body is occupied by a screen WITHOUT it looking like a LG Prada? I'm sure Apple can't answer that.
Zak @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:43AM
The iPhone was in development for three years before it was released, and that's a long time before the Prada was available. However, there are plenty of ways to make it not look like an iPhone. See the rounded edges and the chrome trim? Why does it *have* to look like that? There are plenty of ways to change it so it doesn't look almost exactly like an iPhone.
JackMontana @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:49AM
The Diamond does a good job of being a touchscreen phone that doesn't look like the iPhone
Jon @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:48AM
240 x 400? Why can't we get some phones with real resolutions? Dell put a VGA screen in it's x50v PDA 4 years ago, so it can't be too hard. Let's get with the times here!
Ricardo @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:48AM
Yay, one more low resolution phone, let's celebrate!
Neil @ Jun 3rd 2008 11:51AM
A link to an English site would have been appreciated!! ;-)
David @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:05PM
It seems very strange, with all the included high end specs(quickly becoming standard specs) that they included such a poor screen.
Glofiish has had VGA for a couple generations now,
Both the HTC Raphael and the Diamond have VGA (640x 480),
XPERIA has WVGA (480x 800)
Loooks like its still the EXPERIA for me.
Chris Washington @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:16PM
Bear with me if this is not up to someone's standards, it is my first rant on here:
So, you silly fanboys, what should it look like?
No chrome trim, I'm guessing? We don't want ANYONE else to have chrome trim on their phones, let alone the people who did it 60 years ago:
(Looks like Apple has a secret use for Time Machine, eh?)
I want my phone trimmed in sandpaper! Yeah...that's how I like it.
What else? No rounded rectangular form factor? I FORGOT! I like all of my phones shaped like a 'Z'. Talk about ergonomics!
And absolutely NO touchscreen! How on earth am I gonna give my phone instructions? I'm thinking maybe punch cards?
There you have it, Samsung's Z-shaped, sandpaper trimmed, punch-card utilizing phone!
Suffice it to say, I hate most of you. I'm at a loss for why you troll a BLOG, not a news site, but a BLOG and complain about every non-Apple matter. It's a shame too, because the closest most of you will ever get to touching tits is scrolling the pr0n on your iPhone. (BTW, notice that I used the real name of the IPhone, not some stupid fucking knockoff name. Do you guys melt if you touch the M-I-C-R-O-S-O-F-T keys in sequential order or don't start a word with a lowercase 'i' or something?)
Ok, I'm done.

Couldn't agree with you more.
The majority of comments here undoubtably come from 12-15 year old boys. Playin' on the puter while Mommie scrubs the skid-marks outta their shorts.
happy_penguin @ Jun 3rd 2008 12:42PM
I hate Microsoft so much that I removed the M,I,C,R,O,S,O,F and T keys from my keyboard, which make it pretty hard to explain how I typed this comment.
John @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:39PM
LOL INTERNET DRAMA!
If you're in all honesty trying to say that that phone pictured above looks nothing like an iPhone, then you need to get your eyes checked. In addition, if you think that there's no other way that a touchscreen phone can be designed, then I hope you'll enjoy your cubicle job for the rest of your life, since you obviously lack the creativity, the drive, and the risk-taking ability needed for a higher-paying leadership position.
Brendan Sheehan @ Jun 3rd 2008 1:47PM
I don't know why you're taking this so personally. If I ran a mobile phone company and my team came in and showed me this I'd throw it back at them. I own an iPhone, and if I was making a phone I'd deliberately make it not look like an iPhone. Say what you will but I'd bet my life saving the reason this phone looks this way it because of the iPhone. I'd go for a unique shape and probably all black, with possible a glass rim. Something "totally different" to the iPhone. If it's anyway similar it's going to be compared to it which would be bad for business.
"That's like an iPhone I'd rather have the real thing."
Like or not this looks like the iPhone, deal with it. We're not fanboys for noticing this. A relation of mine just looked over my shoulder while I was looking at that image and a relation of mine said "that looks a bit like the iPhone doesn't it?" I said yes. Like it or not it does.
Matt @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:24PM
I am not sure about everyone else, but I only have 1 O key on my keyboard. Did i get screwed?
rip @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:45PM
personally, I ranked you higher for the hissy fit rant.
Dana @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:09PM
You ASSUME it will be expensive and ASSUME that people will spring for its looks? Yet, there was none of this sarcasm for a $600 phone last year that has no ToDo list or copy/paste function? All we need is the facts.
kurt.tappe @ Jun 3rd 2008 2:09PM
The other funny thing is that people are now acting as if there is no other way to create a smartphone without it looking like the iPhone. But it sure is interesting that Apple, way late to the phone game, was the first to make a phone that looked anything like the iPhone. If the iPhone design is so "natural" as some of you Apple haters are claiming, then why did nobody make one like it before Apple? And now why are they all suddenly making them like that? It will be interesting to hear what "But Apple stills sucks" reason you come up with.
rDub @ Jun 11th 2008 12:24PM
It seems people have lost any sense of objectivity ... ok so you have a phone, a device that has to fit in a hand to be easy to use, and since people like large screens you make the entire surface a screen ... viola you have what everyone will now call an iPhone clone.
Back in the day before cell phones every damn phone pretty much looked the same ... its an object that serves a specific purpose, different manufacturers are going to end up with items that look similar what’s the big deal with that why do we have to hear all these iPhone rants every single time???
Granted there are some designs where the items steal the aesthetics from a previous product (read obvious Chinese rip-offs) but those products will reap what they deserve in the long run
starchild @ Jun 3rd 2008 4:11PM
Choosing my next phone will be a dilemma: i900, the next-gen iPhone, or the Touch Diamond.
