Foxconn showcases tiny PD-W1001 DLP projector

Although Computex has largely delivered a slew of netbooks to digest, a handful of new pico projectors have also managed to get a little face time. The latest is Foxconn's PD-W1001, which features a 0.3-inch Texas Instruments DLP chip, WVGA (854 x 480) resolution and 25 Lm -- all within a 55- x 46- x 26-millimeter package that weighs just 65-grams. In its current form, we can't see this being much more than a novel concept, but when these critters start inching closer to 1080p, you can color us very much interested.

25lm => 25 lumens. Pretty dull in general, but amazing for its size.

I have a projector that is 20lb, only 640x480, and 90 lumens. Time to upgrade :P

The need for small sized projectors only means that when you go for a colon exam you'll be projecting things in 1080p with 16.7M true color on a 52in screen.

Come on, that resolution is fine. Imagine sticking one of those on the end of your Zune and projecting flicks in 480p, widescreen style.
Besides, with 25 lumens, how far away from the image do you think you're going to be?

What do you mean you can't see a use for this? You've obviously never been a travelling presenter. I would love to be able to slip this little baby in my laptop bag and go presentations with it- if it was bright enough. You'd never use something this size for video, but for powerpoints it's perfect. No more hassling with hooking up to the jacked up projectors in the conference rooms.

It looks lovely but sorry to spoil the powerpoint party folks- all I ever see with these pico projectors is the unit and never a working picturepeeking its head out from behind the lens.

It could be the size of my penis (yeah, that's right) but if the picture's useless other than in a pitch black room against a wall at a foot what's the point?
