Voodoo PC teaser video hints at new machines
First Voodoo's home page had that little fire problem, and now this super-dramatic teaser video's making the rounds -- we'd say there's probably a new Voodoo desktop and laptop in store for us on June 10, by the looks of things. Vid after the break.

Those are some sexy looking shapes. If the blackbird 002 is anything to go by, I think we can expect great things from hp and voodoo.
Mam00th @ Jun 5th 2008 8:49PM
Let's just hope nobody says : can it run youknowwhat...
Isaac @ Jun 5th 2008 8:58PM
I don't get what is up with all these fake warning commercials now a days. They suck, waste time and don't convince me to buy anything.
Derry Quinn @ Jun 6th 2008 4:44AM
Whaddaya mean? Can it play Doom?
Jherez @ Jun 5th 2008 8:42PM

Scary Computers.
Alex @ Jun 5th 2008 8:43PM
I wonder what specs.
Gavin @ Jun 5th 2008 8:43PM
I'd say it was all mumbo jumbo, but it looks like there is some new magic for Voodoo in the pipeline.
David @ Jun 5th 2008 8:44PM
I hope they release a 15.4" with 8800m/9800m
Do Voodoo have their own designs or do they sell Clevos?
maybe that's the switchover is all about - maybe Theyr'e getting some uniquie products like Alienware.
DoK @ Jun 5th 2008 10:32PM
Their last laptop line up before "the fire" was primarily Clevo's. I'm not sure if they all were, as some were heavily disguised.
maff @ Jun 5th 2008 8:45PM
Voodon't ........................sorry!
Brian @ Jun 5th 2008 8:45PM
the aluminum one looks like a mac pro. Probably it will be just as or more powerful than a mac pro.
coolbee8 @ Jun 5th 2008 8:46PM
Looks like a few overpriced machines trying to rub those with more money than sense.
Flashpoint @ Jun 5th 2008 8:46PM
HP has been doing an excellent job producing PC's for the home and business user but, I think that this movement to Voodoo is probably a bad idea. Instead of trying to cater to the PC gamer market, they should just make more powerful desktop PC's ...to order.
Right now HP is offering a slew of sub-$1500 Core2Duo Quad PC's with Nvidia 8500 GT graphics cards and 4GB RAM + built in TV tuners off the shelf.

Out of the box, these computers will run CRYSIS on a 17 - 22 inch monitor. I consider that a good benchmark.
If they simply allow you to call in and take that same system but, bump the Graphics card up to Nvidia's best - or if they offer SLI configurations, they could use their regular PC's as a gamer line without creating a new Marquee.
Flashpoint @ Jun 5th 2008 8:51PM
Let me also add that I've been proud of HP for a very long time and they are my personal computer manufacturer of choice.
The models I listed come with built in wireless and everything out of the box you'd need to run CRYSIS (which costs just 19.99 extra).
I AM AN HP FANBOY AND I'M PROUD OF IT.
I've got an 8570c still going strong 8 years after I got it (Pentium 3 450mhz with 256 MB RAM) I use it to copy DVD's !
David @ Jun 5th 2008 8:54PM
8500gt is a POS, it's no more powerful than the go7600 I have in my lappy, and I can tell you that running stuff like oblivion, neverwinter nights 2 etc at 1680x1050 does not happen.
its a good thing they don't all have 8500gt
anyway what else was I gonna say.. oh yeah, hp is not nearly as strong a brand as voodoo in the gaming market.
doudOSX @ Jun 5th 2008 8:46PM
wow that wold be wered

Who the hell actually buys these machines?! Alienware, Voodoo, Falcon NW, whatever, they're all so expensive. I live in a wealthy community and I know all the gamers and I have to say I might know one person with an alienware computer. Pretty much everyone else that did PC gaming would either build something themselves or buy something retail that had an AGP/ PCI-E slot and just upgrade the GPU. Either way saved you $1000+ over a comparable Alienware/Voodoo computer. And thats besides the fact that myself and a lot of other people who used to do PC gaming back in the counter-strike/starcraft heyday have completely ditched it for consoles.
Especially now with relatively cheap consoles dominating the gaming market...
lawyer bird @ Jun 5th 2008 9:32PM
agreed. I don't know a single person who has or would pay $4,000+ for a gaming pc that wouldn't rather build something better for cheaper or at least knows someone who would...whatever
mariokarter @ Jun 5th 2008 10:07PM
I just built a gaming computer for 1600 with a asus en8800 graphics card, intel q6600 cpu, asus p5k mobo (no sli:(), 24inch 1080p display, 620 watt power supply, dlink wireless n card, 500 gb western digital drive, pioneer dvd drive. Are voodoos really that overpriced? How much would a desktop voodoo thats comparable to my rig cost?
jason @ Jun 5th 2008 11:18PM
idk like $8000 maybe (seriously thats what it cost when i did it like 1 year ago)
Anton @ Jun 5th 2008 9:39PM
Can't wait to see what they came up with!
wako @ Jun 5th 2008 9:43PM
From the video I cant help but be reminded of the looks of a Mac Pro...
Anthony @ Jun 5th 2008 10:01PM
i want it!!
MastrCake @ Jun 5th 2008 9:58PM
Now, I know that I haven't seen the whole thing, but so far I am impressed. It looks like it may be even cleaner than (gasp!) the Mac Pro! Who saw that coming, especially in a world of flashy HP Blackbirds and Alienware's?
I personally like the departure (if it is as clean as the teaser shows). I have always like the minimalist looks of Apple computers, and this should be really interesting to see.
Oh, and kudos to Voodoo for the web site going up in flames... very impressed.
nikster @ Jun 6th 2008 12:22AM
I believe HP is going to do something very different from Dell/Alienware because HP is getting PCs. They will make Voodoo into their premium line. The big difference would be that they would not be for gaming nerds only. There will certainly be configs to honor the heritage, but they will have machines for normal people who want to have great design and performance at a price. In other words, Apple's market, or maybe even more high end than that. $1500+.
At least that's what I think they should do. As has been pointed out by others, the traditional Voodoo market of hard-core gamers is very small. Real hard-core gamers build their own rigs, or switch to consoles etc. I think HP is smarter than that. What they really need is a premium brand.
PS: An alien-head is not, and never has been good design. It was cool maybe 10 years ago but even then it wasn't design.
MastrCake @ Jun 6th 2008 12:35AM
I never said Alienware was good design, just flashy. Too flashy for their own good.
They aren't getting my business because they are:
1. Ugly
2. Pricey
3. Insufficient performance for the price
4. Pricey (I know I said that, but it must be re-emphasized. TAKE NOTE, ALIENWARE!!!)
Ha! When you take the first letter of each letter of each number, it sounds like "U Pee, I Pee!" Lame, I know, but I had to point that out...
Just1ncred1ble12 @ Jun 5th 2008 11:33PM
Minimum price for a voodoo is 2grand, just to put it in perspective.
peternj @ Jun 5th 2008 11:49PM
I own a Blackbird 002, use it for video, graphics, web and of course gaming. It's my favorite computer, no buyers remorse as the design is so unique and yet functional. It's a real head turner, no one gives a second look to the MacPro we use for Final Cut.
I am excited to see what happens with Voodoo.
Steffen Jobbs @ Jun 6th 2008 12:44AM
Very impressive video, to say the least. It spoke wonders of the new machine. What exactly was I watching. Yawn.....
Time to post another 3G iPhone article.
Mag13 @ Jun 6th 2008 3:25AM
Please don't tell me they will still have the same prices...
joep323 @ Jun 6th 2008 9:17AM
I have owned VoodooPC's since I was 16 (now 23), I have never had buyers remorse for paying 3000.00+ for one. I have built PC's for friends and family but when it comes to my own I want the best of the best for me thats always been Voodoo. I used to be able to go as high in the chain of command as Rahul himself if I had issues, Talk about support! Even after Rahul became consumed by everything around him you always got a real receptionist answer the phone instead of a machine and you were always able to talk to the same person that had helped you in the past.
I am now an avid Mac user but being the tech nerd I am, I must always have at least one PC in my home for gaming and those just in case software situations. Voodoo fills that. I have seen people comment badly about Voodoo's designs on this website before and all I can say is don't knock it until you have really seen one with your own eyes. It is really a thing of beauty. I'll quote Jurassic Park in saying they "spare no expense". Thats what my view of Voodoo's philosophy was before HP and now from the looks of this video shown, it looks like that motto hasn't changed.
I was in the market for a new Macbook but after seeing this video it looks as though I will need to save extra pennies to purchase a new Voodoo even though my liquid cooled behemoth Voodoo that sits in my office today is still running beautifully with no additions besides ram and HDD since it was bought 4yrs ago.
Bungle @ Jun 6th 2008 2:35PM
Many years ago I looked into buying a gaming laptop, Voodoo were definitely a company I considered. Unfortunately back then and even now they cannot support users outside North America.
The one benefit of buying a built machine instead of building it yourself is that they provide support and a guarantee in case you have any problems. If that company was in the UK I'd expect them to foot the bill to pick up my system and get it resolved, unfortunately if I had a problem with a Voodoo machine and I was in the UK I'd need to pay to ship it back to them to fix it.
I was hoping that with the merger between Voodoo and HP this would be different, but it isn't. Also months after the Blackbird was available in the US, prospective customers in the UK haven't been given any details when it will be available over here. Although I'd like to be excited about a new product launch, its only going to affect people in North America.
peter @ Jun 7th 2008 4:09AM
buying voodoo was a good move on hp because it was a dying company
that they could pick up and mold it into what they want
dell and alienware on the other hand is quite different. Alienware is doing
quite well by itself without any need for dell and dell was doing quite well with its XPS so now they're like errr..............who's product line do we kill
and alienware won't kill its product line but the XPS (especialy the laptops) aren't too bad themselves
