Eee PC 901 gets unboxed and examined
ASUS's new Eee PC 901 has already gone before the cameras at Computex, but if you're the type that's just not satisfied 'till you something unboxed you may want to head on over to Laptop Magazine, which has not only done the usual honors but provided a few initial impressions as well. On the whole, they seem to think it's a worthwhile upgrade, with the extra keys across the top a particularly welcome addition, although they did have some slight problems with the keyboard, which they ultimately wound up prying off in order to fix. Hit up the link below for the full batch of pics.

Which Eee PC is this? There are so many new models coming from Asus, I get confused...
Its the 9" screen version.
I believe it's the ASUS's new Eee PC 901, per title.
You all missed my attempt at sarcasm.
With the Eee TV, the Eee Monitor All-in-One, and the Eee Desktop... I forgot that Asus makes tiny laptops.
I'm afraid you missed your own attempt at sarcasm. Feigning ignorance for satirical purposes isn't sarcasm. Though I did chuckle a bit.
thats OK. I didn't want to see the Eee PC 901 unboxed anyway.
The Wind unboxing is what we really want....Eee is so....few months back...
I feel sorry for your pets.
Don't have any...
not anymore...
They got outdated the second month he had them.
Okay enough..If you weren't ignorant you would understand that I was reffering to the Eees new price and that's why it's the past.....
@KEROLiUKAS
Were/are you one of those kids at school, who everytime somebody remotely hinted that you had made a mistake, you cried in the corner? Learn to laugh at your mistakes, not get all defensive, it only makes people want to make fun of you more!
@RETRO, and DB:
Nice
Oh Lighten up KEROLIUKAS.
It's the internet.
Lulz for everyone.
Serious buisness.
;P
@Keroliukas #2: PWND
nice..
after meeting the 901 only so briefly, now you have taken it to bed for a one night stand..
classy, engadget, classy..
Read link down?
Read link down, indeed.
left to right is typically the accepted method.
OMG! It's like almost every other thing that comes in a box!
What idiot decided articles like these should ever be written?
Unboxxing articles suck.
I can't believe people today don't appreciate the simple joy of unboxing something. Hasn't a Christmas present ever excited you when you were unwrapping it? Wasn't part of the fun that short, silly little journey to the center of the box? Part of the fun is getting there man.
So that is what happens to those kids that never had a Christmas or birthdays.
The Asus Aspire One unboxing is what we really want....Wind is so....few days back...
@spass: Wow, didn't know Asus had already released a new series!
I hope Acer will never hear that. They get very angry if a competitor takes their name of a Notebook series.
Wow, i didn't know that the "engadget effect" existed yet... Congratulations guys! (server is down)
Yes it does..
It brought down my site for a few hours when this was posted:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/31/dsm-330-divx-connected-hd-media-player-gets-unboxed/
but it was because the server owner had set a too low bandwidth limit, it wasn't cuz it couldn't handle it....It was restored pretty fast after i contacted them to increase the b/w limit.
maybe in a few months they actually sell these machines at areasonable pricepoint..
Link doesn't work.
I dont think the price is that unreasonable. I remember drooling over Sony's tiny laptops in the past because size was the most important factor for me and those were almost always over 2000 bucks. Now I can actually afford a laptop that I can actually carry around.
Hello,
This is my first time here and I need some help. Could someone please tell me how to post comments on articles.
Thanks in advance!

Kinda like this.

What he said.
Send me 10 US WESTERN UNION,INC, I post your question on www.engadget.com
looks like the page went down
Judging from where this picture was taken, did the guy have sex with it and then photograph it?
Oh, is the the new Asus Eee PC of the week? I love it. Next comes the 902 and the 903 and the.... Each will have slightly subtle changes and each offer up a new mystery. The most subtle thing is that the price keeps going up little by little.
Oh, well, this is just filler for the main event on June 9th. Keep up the good work.
Ho-hum.... On to the next article.....
You're just mad because Jobs hasn't come out with the MacBook-Mini yet.
On second thought, your just a douche bag.
Wait you mean that's so much different from the way Mac does it? With a small processor update here and small hardware change there? Pot calling the kettle black.
Windows serves one market,
Mac another,
Netbooks another,
Linux for another.
If you're obsessed with Apple hardware, this is not the computer for you.
That does not make this a bad computer.
So please. STFU.

Mac another,
Netbooks another,
Linux for ALL OF THE ABOVE."

I've decided to wait for the MSI Wind. The deal-breakers for me were (1) eee's short battery life and (2) the slightly toooo tiny keyboard for my hands and (3) the price is just high enough to make spending another $75 for the next step up worthwhile. The HP 2133 was also on my list until I read about the battery life (I could have lived with the low performance on account of the processor and Windows Vista). Another consideration was that I need something that can run MS OneNote, so a linux OS was out of the question (the open source analogues to Onenote just don't compare).
The 901 battery life is a LOT better than the 70x and 900s and it's the same as the Winds.
The Eee PC 901 killed our hamster wheel. We're building a bigger, better wheel over the next few hours, but in the meantime, we've mirrored the article here:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/asus-eee-pc-901.aspx
404 on the read.
Sony's tiny laptops are made of premium processors and other details. Say what you want, but the Atom can't compete with a Core Solo U-Series processor! Never!
And because it's challenging for Intel to make those little workhorses they want some money for them. So please don't compare ordinary subnotebooks with those netbooks. And IIRC every Sony subnotebook has a DVD-Drive and a superb display.
Not that I'm a Sony fanboy, you could also replace that with Lenovo X300, MacBook Air, Toshiba Portégé Asus U-Series or Flybook. They're just in another class but how long will they be?
When can I BUY this?
