Philips X800 low-end touchscreen phone details revealed
We already knew that Philips had plans to release the low-end touchscreen X800, but now we know just how low it was willing to go with this thing. Confirmed are the lack of 3G, EDGE (which still shocks us), and WiFi. Meanwhile, the 2.9-inch, 240x400 screen, only supports 256K colors, and the phone's browser is your basic WAP 2.0/xHTML. It does support Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, though, so that's a plus. Other bits: it will allow for expansion via microSD, support MP3 ringtones, and packs a USB port. In short, not a whole lot to see here. Follow the read link for a full spec list.

Wow, it's almost as limited as the iPhone.
Derek Bradley @ Jun 6th 2008 6:08PM
Yet they'll never call the iPhone low-end, beacuse it's so simple to use(read: made for idiots) and has an excellent user interface(read: hides the fact that it as well, it low end).

I giggled.
I'd have to see more about it, but a touch phone for the "normal peoples" isn't a bad thing.
I mean after all people like my mom would get something like one of these (because Im assuming itll be way cheaper than say...an iphone) and be like "LOOK AT MY COOL PHONE"
All us on the site cringe when we see the specs though haha. Wutevs.

I hope those aren't the final specs, cause I'm bored.

It still seems like something interesting. And by the way, there is nothing wrong with a simple interface. I have a a Pocket PC that I've used for about three years, and after I got my iPhone, I realized just how nice it is to have a UI that lets me get something done without taking more time than it should.

Wow, no 3G or even EDGE? Going back to the stone age I see...
Ender Wiggin @ Jun 6th 2008 11:10PM
I just got off the phone with our local cavemen. They say they'd be happy with WAP2.0/xHTML. Right now they're on the "shouting loudly" network.

Oh my philips x800? well, it doesn't do anything, but it has a touch screen.
Touhid @ Jun 7th 2008 2:08AM
Actually the x800 went through the FCC recently and according to the manual it has EDGE. Boygenius just copied the specs from gsmarena which hasn't been updated in a while.

Wow a Phone that acts just like a phone
wesley @ Jun 6th 2008 8:58PM
Sell it for under 100 bucks outside of contract and make it quad GSM I'll get one...

It would depend on price.
Let's face it: touch screen phones is the way to go. Low-end also needs its champions.
Greg @ Jun 6th 2008 10:16PM
I agree. I say reserve judgement until you hear the price. Sure if it costs a bucket AND is low end then there's some complaining to be done.
Eric @ Jun 6th 2008 8:17PM
I wonder if John Mayer has one yet.
ronald.raygun @ Jun 6th 2008 9:58PM
if they would've just thrown wifi in there and a decent browser (iphone or opera mini) like i would definately go for it.
El Taco @ Jun 6th 2008 10:46PM
MY Dell Vostro has a touch screen, too, and it's pressure-sensitive.. When I touch it, it turns funny colors, and the harder I press on it, the more funny colors there are.
Just because it has a touch screen doesn't mean it does anything useful.
JP @ Jun 6th 2008 11:28PM
my dog is gonna like that one!
ntlam @ Jun 7th 2008 5:02AM
I am wondering that does it mean by "low end touchscreen handphone"? you could get tonnes of "low end" + cheap (in price, maybe in quality as well) + functional (that's includes TV/radio receiver, bluetooth, micro sd card reader...) touchscreen phone at any big street in China. ;-)
greenlight @ Jun 7th 2008 7:23AM
Specs-wise, it sounds a lot like all those chinese iPhone/"Nokir"/etc phones, right down to A2DP support.
