You KNOW VZW is gonna remove it! NO WAY they'd let you buy a phone and not charge you for a data plan. I love the VZW reps reasoning behind that: " Well Wi-Fi isnt everywhere, so we make sure you always have data coverage with our network."
A third party patch? I wish! It seems most of the hacking community is not interested enough to bother with Blackberry patches. I mean I havent yet come across a patch to unlock the GPS on Verizon Pearl yet, and I WOULD be willing to pay for it!
Didn't see any hackers out there either. It -seems- to me that it would just be a matter of modifying the service books... but if it was that easy then someone would have done it already? *shrug*
Didnt say it was impossible. Just saying VZW should allow people to use Wi-Fi on phones that dont cost $400+ ie i760 and XV6800. Example Snowenloe and wifi on his pearl. Lots of VZW phones have the wifi antenna - but they disable it because they want to hit you with that extravagent data cost.
Does the iPhone have WI-FI? *Yes* Do they force you to take a data plan? *Yes* Is there a way to block the data and only use WIFI? *NO*
So what would be the difference with Blackberry and VZW leaving WIFI on this phone? Think before you speak. WiFi actually is a benefit because it doesn't use the network, but the iPhone utilizes WiFi to overcome its lack of 3G. Why do you think the iPhone always asks to switch to WiFi whenever it can?
HP's Jon Rubenstein told us that his company wanted to veer in a new direction, and veer it surely did -- the HP Veer 4G will arguably be the smallest fully-functional smartphone on the market when it goes on sale May 15th.

What are the odds this thing will have WiFi? Or will Verizon have it removed?

Should just be a matter of modifying your service books, I'd think. If verizon does disable it, expect a third-party "patch" to re-enable it.

@Warren
I have a Verizon phone with WiFi. Samsung i760. So don't say it's impossible, because it's not.
