why couldn't they make it 32GB . . i actually would have paid 100 dollars more for 32GB . . . greedy bastards are waiting til xmas to announce the 32GB . i KNOW IT!

I think iPhone hasn't been approved by the FCC for exactly this reason; early publicity. Not like it's not gonna pass.

How about they submitted it today maybe cause they know everyone will be searching through all of the FCC Filings. They did not want anyone to spoil it's release. Seems like the best explanation to me.
Apple can't send in a filing for FCC approval due to the overall secrets they like to keep to the chest. Sending this filing in early would have compromised the early to market goals. jebbus peak out from under the rock. ...and Engad, Giz, BGR, etc. would have had top dibbs on this without the fake pics and concepts weeks if not months ago.
Same crap camera?
It's a heck of a lot better than the one on my phone. If I was only interested in a camera, then I'd just buy a Sony Ericsson with a Cybershot in it. But the pictures this thing takes is actually decent. Not to assume anything about anyone, but a lot of people have been griping more about the megapixel count than actual experience with the image quality.
I guess this puts a stop to all the rumors of a "later announced" front facing cam and 32gb version? (somewhere in my mind I'm still hoping for some kind of secret 32gb model with a (red) plastic back, iChat, and multimedia messaging)....I can dream right?
No front Camera, look the same as the old iphone and that cheap plastic WTF Apple I prefer Metal.
You prefer metal, but anyone who wants to get a fast connection with the 3G chip is not going to want that pretty aluminum backplate screwing with the signal..
Engadget missed out on the story of Apple's non-submission to the FCC prior to the WWDC. There were several stories about Apple sending mysterious shipments to distribution centers implying that these were the iPhone. Would this have given a hint as to the real ship date (WWDC + time to get FCC approval)?
Before the flames start:
- I wouldn't have done much better myself, but thenI don't run a tech blog or dig through FCC apps for fun.
- Engadget is a great blog which garners my daily readership.
- I'm disappointed at having to wait another month.
What A Huge Disappointment! Waiting all this time, all the hype and
this is the best they can do? up the speed, no memory upgrade, just
plain poor. not camera upgrade IIRC... it is still 2mp...no wonder
the stock is taking a dive as we speak! UGH! Well it seem like yet
another iPhone I won't be getting. We can put a man on the moon, But
we can't change our own battery on a iPhone. With today identity
Theft problem on an up raise each and every day. I'm suppose to hand
over an iPhone with my PERSONAL information to God know who, maybe a
disgruntle employee. Trust that they will erase my personal
information for me, with out taking a peek and maybe writing it down
for his or her personal gain. Like we never seen this done before.
It's only been done almost EVERY day in any given work environment.
I'll just buy a phone that I can change out my own battery thanks

Am I the only one who is slightly let down by what the iPhone 3g has to offer. I have been following every fragment of 3G iPhone news and was 98% ready to drop my Verizon contract but now I'm not so sure...I was hoping for a 32 GB model so I could eliminate my iPod and carry around one device but now with only 16 GB of space I think I would still have to keep it. Additionally with the lack of a front camera (WTF Apple!!!) and not a whole lot changed from the first iPhone (yes I know, GPS and 3G) I'm not so sure. Also...
-Will there be flash support?...I doubt it.
-Video recording?
-Another model released in 9 months with all these features?...You bet.

I love Apple products and just about every computer I have had was a Mac (even in the OS 9.0 dark ages). I have gone through my fair share of iPods but just wished the iPhone 3G offered more...
How much music do you really need to take with you every day? A 16gb iphone holds around 175 hours of music. Are you really going to be away from your pc that long?
