Omen bodes well for Voodoo's gaming future

Besides the new Envy 133, Voodoo is also launching its 22-inch tall, all-aluminum (glass, wood, and leather too) Omen tower. This time, for gamers. It features a 7-inch, 800 x 480 display for secondary information on the outside and a Voodoo designed water cooling loop on the inside to keep the fire down on up to 2x CPUs (up to 16 cores) and 4x GPUs. The system tops out with a pair of 3.2GHz Core 2 Extreme QX9770 processors, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, and support for "next generation" NVIDIA and ATI graphics... at a price. Starting at around $7,000 and available exclusively to existing Voodoo customers at launch sometime later this year.

A gamer case, that is not ugly?
How can this be?
Also, are those slot loading drives there? Because I love slot loading drives.
Mobius_1 @ Jun 10th 2008 4:55AM
This will fit right into the highest-end home theatre systems without looking like an eyesore out of some 8-year-old's imagination, so sleek and cool and unpretentious
Wow, I want one
tekdroid @ Jun 10th 2008 5:15AM
I guess this is proof looks are very very subjective. I absolutely hate this design. Not a fan of flat squarish edges, but neither am I a fan of unnecessary embellishments and 12-year-old appeal.
Hmmm. Ugly is an understatement (again, IMO).
nikster @ Jun 10th 2008 6:06AM
Seconded. This is the first PC I have seen that looks really great and is not a Mac. I am amazed. I never thought I'd see the day.
Well done Voodoo. Even if it's $7k.
Flashpoint @ Jun 10th 2008 8:05AM
For $7000 I'm CERTAIN it can run Crysis.
My only question is, if it can repair the hole in my wallet.
whowhatme @ Jun 10th 2008 11:55AM
hot damn, that costs more than my car!
Reader @ Jun 10th 2008 3:28PM
I love it. The simplicity of the design is what makes it great. Whenever I decide to finally upgrade my computer, I think I'll make a case with the same shape. Probably black though, silver doesn't fit in all that well with my current stuff.
wako @ Jun 10th 2008 4:48AM
Looks like it took some inspiration points from Apple's Mac Pro.... =X
At 7k though, I rather just make my own computer that can probably beat the bananas out of the base line of that system.
Jimmy @ Jun 11th 2008 3:20AM
agreed. (with both points)
dervheid @ Jun 10th 2008 4:55AM
Nice...

Looks like we have the Candidate and potential winner for Custom PC 2008 Dream PC. They are always ridiculously priced but pipped with the monster hardware, last years winner was the Scan White Cobra I believe.

Is it too cool to have usb ports in a place where you can see and reach them?
lawyer bird @ Jun 10th 2008 1:18PM
um, yes. style over substance, always.

I must have it...
Troels C @ Jun 10th 2008 5:08AM
Very nice design, but a bit pricy.
lance @ Jun 10th 2008 5:14AM
that is a thing of beauty!
Alex @ Jun 10th 2008 5:17AM
I'm all for luxuries, but uber expensive computer systems are just stupid. If you need or even just want that kind of performance you could do it for almost half that. But most of all It doesn't matter if you spend $100,000 on a computer, it will be outdated in as little as 12-18 months leaving you with your pants down when it loses all bragging rights except for costing a lot. If you can afford spending $7,000 on a computer every 2 years then go for it, otherwise stick to spending time with it in the image galleries.
GenBanks @ Jun 10th 2008 5:18AM
How do they manage to have two CPU's? I thought Skulltrail didn't support normal DDR 3 ram, only slower FD-DIMM 's?
And by four GPU's, do they mean two 9800 GX2's? Wouldn't buy now though, would rather have two GTX 280's :D or two 4870 X2's (when both of them come out).
That is an intensely sexy case though. Too bad Voodoo don't sell their cases sepearately, with only the case and the watercooling equipment :( since I still prefer to shop for my own parts.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jun 10th 2008 10:07AM
It says for sale later this year... maybe they are putting an X58 or some other upcoming chipset in it.

2x CPUs (16 cores) ?
Are they counting hyperthreading as "core" in order to increase the hype?
geadam @ Jun 10th 2008 6:28AM
Yeah I thought that. Two quad core CPUs: 2 x 4 = 16 apparently. Could just be a typo?
Richard @ Jun 10th 2008 10:24AM
They are probably planning ahead for the 8 core processors that Intel had announced a while back. Thus, 8+8=16.
JFE @ Jun 10th 2008 10:48AM
the return of Hyper Threading (nehalem)
Jimmy @ Jun 11th 2008 3:23AM
when does nehalem come out anyways?
naz @ Jun 10th 2008 6:16AM
I wish my Hp computer looked like that! lol
Duoae @ Jun 10th 2008 6:30AM
I don't get the appeal. I mean, what game/application can even take advantage of one quad core processor, let alone two!
Chachi @ Jun 10th 2008 11:09PM
Crysis...

Just1ncred1ble12 @ Jun 10th 2008 7:16AM
Make a model without a monitor in the front, solid state drives, liquid cooling, skull trail, and any other over the top garbage then ill buy it. I just want that delicious case, the monitor in the front would be cool but im sure they are charging like 700$ just for that.
guru @ Jun 10th 2008 8:09AM
That's the CPU's with a xeon base.
So there is definitely a Skulltrail in that beguiling case.
Conor Maher @ Jun 10th 2008 9:10AM
Why doesn't anyone sell cases like these :(
Some Lian Li cases come close to the awesomeness but that case is just amazing! Looks like my refrigerator :o
flyer @ Jun 10th 2008 9:30AM
Brought to you the letter "B" and the words "ugly Box".
Sahil Malik @ Jun 10th 2008 10:03AM
That case looks awesome!
Lachie.fin @ Jun 10th 2008 10:14AM
This case reminds me of Halo 3, i dont know why it just does.
Deeznuts @ Jun 10th 2008 10:12AM
7,000??? No thank you i can use that money for some thing more useful like a house.
Richard @ Jun 10th 2008 10:29AM
A house? The market is bad right now.. but not that bad.
Reader @ Jun 10th 2008 3:02PM
I've actually seen a house for 14 grand before. Of course it was about the size of one room, was falling apart, and was on a piece of property not much bigger than the house itself and surrounded by streets (also nowhere to park a car). Surprised it hadn't been bulldozed by the city, was such an eye sore.
Richard @ Jun 10th 2008 10:26AM
UT3. When Alienware showed off their ALX desktop with dual quads at CES it was tearing through the game at insane framerates. They had an app running so you could see how the cpu's and gpu's were being utilized.
Richard @ Jun 10th 2008 10:27AM
Should have been a response to Duoae. Comments don't like me...
Duoae @ Jun 10th 2008 2:07PM
Yeah, i think i remember that being shown... but one game? Seriously? I don't think that the scalability of cores vs programming for multicore (past 2 or 3) is going to improve that much in the next 3-4 years.... by which point we may have a single dual core that is much faster than these two beasts.
Brady @ Jun 10th 2008 11:45AM
In order to justify the production of this machine they must be making an incredible profit on each of these because I doubt this will sell a great amount at 7k a piece.
greatslack @ Jun 10th 2008 1:32PM
STARTING at $7000?!?!
Doctorwho @ Jun 10th 2008 4:59PM
These new voodoo computers look great now if only HP would uses some of voodoo's design elements in their mainstream machines then we would have a true analog to the mac for PC users
daytripper @ Jun 10th 2008 3:28PM
The design is really nice, but it looks like it could be tipped over by touching it. Does the 7k include a bolt down kit?
