2010 Ford Fusion features 8.5-inch touchscreen
We already saw a demo of the next-gen version of Ford Sync, but it looks like what we saw was just a taste -- our friends over at Autoblog scored some shots of the 2010 Ford Fusion's interior, and it features a monster 8.5-inch touchscreen, which will also apparently make it into the 2009 F-150 pickup truck. It's not clear how much the system will control or how much it'll cost, but you can bet it's not nearly as sweet as the 1979 Atari Riviera. Hit the read link for a couple full size shots.

ford, just give up

Hey I support the integration of even the most pointless gadgets into every walk of life. And I don't think I'm the only one, either.

vdogg89,
just give up....
Flashpoint @ Jun 11th 2008 4:54PM
A car shouldn't have a screen this big.
I've got a smaller screen in my cars and the amount of light these things create is easily distracting. You're interior looks like a UFO at night.
Ford must be trying to make their interior look like Cadillac's
DESTOS @ Jun 11th 2008 8:51PM
Turn down the screen brightness.
Ayman @ Jun 12th 2008 12:52AM

so it was you all making people believe in seeing UFOs
Sudo @ Jun 11th 2008 4:11PM
Don't need all this in a car.
Rory W @ Jun 11th 2008 5:21PM
Of course, but then again you don't need two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.
The Ether, that I can understand.
Derek @ Jun 11th 2008 4:16PM
That looks pretty cool. I love my 2008 Fusion SEL, and Sync is just about the best, its one of those things that you don't realize how useful it is until you have it.
My lease should be up around then, hopefully the rumors are true and the 2009/2010 will be a Hybrid as well, and this screen is a part of that. Along with any new Sync applications they come out with for it, this could be nice.

I mention that I have a Fusion and its my biography to you?
Its a sweet system, Sync, and thats mainly what the article and this screen is for, unless its for the hybrid as well like the Prius, then its just a bit bigger than other offerings.
Its amazing how many people here will know down things they know nothing about. Regardless of your thoughts of Ford or whatever, they have come a long ass way in terms of quality, and meet and beat Toyota in many of their newer vehicles, like the Fusion.
But, buy what you want, just don't be dicks to others who think different than you, its completely unnecessary.
Danakin @ Jun 11th 2008 4:16PM
...it's like placing a sapphire in a pile of broken potato chips at the bottom of the bag...terrible

"They will also be offering full HD 42" and 52" in-dash versions."
Johan S @ Jun 11th 2008 4:24PM
It's placed too low, the air vents should be moved below it so the screen can be shifted up up higher . Having it so low is a safety concern to me because it means you have to take your eyes off the road more.
kjb434 @ Jun 11th 2008 4:39PM
The touch aspect is disable in movement or very restricted.
orky @ Jun 11th 2008 4:25PM
You can't use your cellphone while driving but you CAN use your handy dandy touch screen. Can't wait....
nth256 @ Jun 11th 2008 4:32PM
"Fusion" in the title, "Focus" in the article. Which is it?
Rick @ Jun 11th 2008 4:40PM
FORD = Fix or Repair Daily
FORD = Found on Road Dead
I'll never buy another Ford vehicle. 2 weeks after the warranty expired for my 2001 Ranger the idle speed computer crapped out. I had more electronic failures on this truck then in the 14 years I owned a Toyota Tacoma.
AC @ Jun 11th 2008 4:53PM
My family and I have used fords all our lives. every single one we have owned have lasted over 120k miles, with nothing more than general upkeep needed (oil changes, batteries, tires, brakes, and the like)
daaper @ Jun 11th 2008 4:54PM
Weird, I had 150,000 miles on my taurus when I sold it and my dad had 250,000 miles on his when he traded it in. I bet you could find horror stories about every make and model. For instance, I would never own an audi or bmw based on some of my coworkers experiences...oh well.
stardash @ Jun 11th 2008 4:58PM
Opinions about cars are like assholes, everyone has one but no one wants to hear them. You like fords, he does not, bug deal. They are doing something right if the company is making money and still thriving, so stop acting like you know something others don't. Also with anything anyone owns, how you treat it is about 9/10ths of how long it lasts, and how much you like it. Remember that when you get a new car.
Stiv @ Jun 11th 2008 5:00PM
@stardash
Yeah, what you said, but without the spelling mistakes.
vdogg89 @ Jun 11th 2008 5:20PM
@AC,
your fords may last 120k but my old camry is well over a quarter million miles and strong.
Jon Acheson @ Jun 11th 2008 5:29PM
No, how you treat it has no bearing on whether the car is a POS or not.
For instance, my current Honda CR-V, at 150,000 miles, is better and more reliable than my previous car, a Dodge Neon, was when it was brand new.
I treated both of them equally well, but the Neon was a hideous POS that was back in the shop constantly, and everything on the damn car broke. Even the turn signal broke. I got rid of that thing as soon as it was paid off, because I knew it was just going to kick me in the face forever.
My Honda, on the other hand, has been solid as a rock.
lee @ Jun 11th 2008 10:08PM
Yup. I said the same thing, 20+ years ago. My one and only Ford crapped out the first time it went on a highway. Ford had the 'dodgy electrics' reputation then. Has anything changed? Oh yeah, they bought Jaguar...
happy_penguin @ Jun 12th 2008 2:11AM
American car hate is so 1995. Every American car I have owned from my 1993 Lumina and on has been reliable as hell. I put over 200,000 miles on that car and it was still going strong when I got rid of it for something newer.

Perfect combination of products from each company. Ford, generally associated as the most unreliable car in the planet. Microsoft, generally associated as the most unreliable Operating System in the planet. Mediocrity at its best.
Krush @ Jun 11th 2008 5:03PM
who cares ... we would all be gawking at pimped out mule/horse carts by then if the current trends in gas prices continue.
Arno @ Jun 11th 2008 5:12PM
I still wouldn't buy a Ford. They are so clueless as to what people want.
Jon Acheson @ Jun 11th 2008 5:22PM
Yuk. Give me something with tactile controls I can use without taking my eyes off the road. And that won't get washed out by glare.
Do. Not. Want.
Andrew Phelps @ Jun 11th 2008 7:45PM

It sould not be legal to have such interfaces down in the dash like that. It should be up front and center. Who do you sue when you crash cuz ur fingering out of your view of trafic. HUD anyone.
Low Ranked @ Jun 11th 2008 6:36PM
I'd say its more legal to finger out of the view of traffic, rather than IN the view of traffic.
Indecent exposure much?
Sam Zebian @ Jun 11th 2008 7:50PM
I want to get the fusion, but I just wish they had the '09 models out sooner with a hybrid option, and if they come out around august with a hybrid model, I am sooo getting one , because sync is awesome and one of the only systems that works with the Zune's DRM model.
TIMMAH! @ Jun 12th 2008 12:52PM
Will it be multi-touch? I'd like to use that pinching maneuver to increase and decrease speaker volume (maybe it can even have a graphic of a speaker that gets smaller or larger in proportion to the volume level.) < /sarcasm>
noza @ Jun 12th 2008 5:06PM
What the hell is the big red button bolted on the dash above the wheel for??
