Honlai's QingBar MP101 iPhone projector makes us want more
Looks like Honlai had more than one mini-projector on display at Computex. The MP101 is capable of throwing a 15- to 27-inch display form your iPhone or iPod touch in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, we're talking just 10-15 lumens and a 200:1 contrast. Still, it'll do for a quick and dirty LCoS jones. See a working prototype after the break.

4:3 only? Boring.
Garst @ Jun 11th 2008 7:12PM
You're disappointed the 4:3 aspect ratio? I think the 200:1 contrast ratio is terrible.
manny @ Jun 11th 2008 7:09AM
how much?!
David Han @ Jun 11th 2008 7:09AM
Please... No more comments about watching "pr0n" on a bigger screen (it's spelt "porn" btw. Learn to spell what you watch)
It's just not funny anymore

pr0n pr0n pr0n! I spell pr0n "pr0n" because I don't how it's spelled. I hope someone will teach me how to spell what I watch!

TareX @ Jun 11th 2008 7:10AM
4:3 only? And they released it? Guys seriously... you should have spent more time in R&D before rushing this out.
OneLove @ Jun 11th 2008 10:46AM
They must have run out of whinny bitch R&D money. :)
TareX @ Jun 11th 2008 10:59AM

Nice. Would this work for other phones too? Imagine in a few years where computers and laptops are obselete and you carry these things with you to effecitively create your screen anywhere. Now that's awesome!

I hope the Android and other phone platforms would take advantage of these devices as well. I'm an iPhone owner, so I guess I can't complain, but choices would be nice!
Phoenix @ Jun 11th 2008 2:34PM
Well MANY companies are building phones with microprojectors in the phone itself...
Apreche @ Jun 11th 2008 7:17AM
Why are there video cables coming out of it? If the video is on the iPhone, and the iPhone is connected directly to the projector, shouldn't there only be a single power cable for the projector?
Rakar @ Jun 11th 2008 7:22AM
audio...
Taylor @ Jun 11th 2008 7:42AM
@Rakar:
There's 3 cables coming out of it: red, yellow, and white.
Red and Yellow are composite audio cables.
White is composite video.
Methinks Honlai were conning a few people in this presentation.
RossKTT @ Jun 11th 2008 7:49AM
Yellow is composite video, red and white are audio
Rakar @ Jun 11th 2008 7:56AM
Oh you're right, now that I've looked closer it does look like there are three cables coming out of it. I thought there were only two at first. That's weird.
94 taurus owner @ Jun 11th 2008 8:24AM
Maybe it's an adaptor for other devices.or and adaptor hookup for other Ipods.
stephen @ Jun 11th 2008 8:46AM
probably hooked up to a DVD player for the demonstration as well. their site notes it has a mini av jack.
i don't think they're trying to pull a fast one or anything...
gt2378b @ Jun 25th 2008 1:22PM
Taylor, how many of your machines give no picture and only produce a horrible buzzing sound?
A new world opens before you, my friend.
FuzzyCat @ Jun 11th 2008 7:24AM
wait... you want a 27 inch image from a scaled down iphone/pod movie?
David @ Jun 11th 2008 7:46AM
I don't know if it's a waste of money for more gadget that we don't need ! Poor market introduction efforts !
HuGo @ Jun 12th 2008 9:40AM
Ummm who the hell watches bottles on their iPhone?
gt2378b @ Jun 12th 2008 1:01PM
Well, rule 34 you know.
brie987 @ Jun 11th 2008 8:31AM
Pretty bottles.
Ryan Trevisol @ Jun 11th 2008 7:58AM
Oh noes! 2 iPhone stories in a row! Time to feel the wrath of the anti-fanbois!
94 taurus owner @ Jun 11th 2008 8:08AM
They need to make one for us nano owners.
natels @ Jun 11th 2008 9:18AM
Well.. I assume it works for any iPod with a dock connector because every other iPod device that connects via dock is universal with the product? Or so I believe.
neofolklore @ Jun 11th 2008 8:11AM
this will blend well.
slarity @ Jun 11th 2008 8:14AM
If they run this off the iPhone why does it have AV cables hooked up?
Steffen Jobbs @ Jun 11th 2008 9:02AM
Those seem to be audio output cables. Maybe it's just hooked up to a powered speaker system.
Nacimroc1 @ Jun 11th 2008 11:52AM
Enough with the bloody iPhone already!
Its way under spec compared to other handsets (e.g. N95) No MMS, no 5/8 mega pixel camera etc etc etc! It has the same specs as a nokia I had in 2002, 6 years ago!
There is a mini projector going to be built into the new samsung and other models in the comming months!
Whats the all the apple fanboys! Seriously!
sluggerboy124 @ Jun 24th 2008 6:13PM
