Voodoo Omen gets examined from the inside
We've already seen plenty of official pics and videos of Voodoo's pricey new Omen desktop, but if you've been hankering to know what's going on under its shiny hood you can now get your fix courtesy of Pocket-lint, which has cracked one open and snapped a couple of pics. Not surprisingly, the Omen's insides are decided more cluttered than its minimalist exterior, not to mention considerably more brightly colored. Hit up the link below for a closer look.

That's "cluttered"?
Looks pretty neat and tidy to me, especially considering it's water cooled.

You forget most of the engadget crew use Macs.
The MacPros once opened are wireless inside, at least that the illusion Apple creates.
Shadowise @ Jun 11th 2008 3:21PM
The black model looks a little more appealing that the silver. While I would love to have the money to buy one of these... if I did have the money, I'd probably just build it myself.
V3LOCIP3D3 @ Jun 12th 2008 12:00AM
second that.
voodoo claims this is the best system they could possibly build (within reason of course), for around 10 grand give or take. I've been a member of xtremesystem forums for 2 years now, and that's not close to the best practical machine you could build for 10 grand.
a professional modder could fit a dual loop system using 1/2" tubes (whereas the voodoo looks like it uses 3/8" tubing) within a stock full tower case without a problem, even using 2-120.3 radiators . . and a custom case would have made it easier. giving it a lot more cooling . . . stick in a skulltrail mobo and a couple of 9800gx2's, along with a 7" LCD (a useless accessory), and it would pwn a voodoo, and cost less.

I was hoping for a real hands-on... you know, with crysis benchmarks and all that.
Shouldn't be too long before one of the uber-rich 12-year-olds who gets one of these decides to grace us with a review.
CosterMonger @ Jun 11th 2008 4:36PM
uber-rich 12-year-old,
sounds like a good handle

I like the direction high-end case design is going with these tool-less entry/modification ideas. Other case designers could take some inspiration from this case (as well as others: 002 Blackbird, Mac Pro). Hopefully in the future it will not take many thousands of dollars to afford a case this well-engineered and intuitive. I really like the system used here for hard drives. :) if only it didn't cost $6500 base.
Bufsabre @ Jun 11th 2008 3:43PM
that is one gorgeous hunk of computer i must admit
Krush @ Jun 11th 2008 3:46PM
(howl) .. that's a nice piece of circuitry in there !!! keep the robot p@rn coming ...
Limp Noodle @ Jun 11th 2008 3:52PM
Dude, its $7000!!!! seriously!
Some Kid @ Jun 11th 2008 3:54PM
its good to know that the inside is more sophisticated than the outside
cause if it wasnt, you would be forkin over 7 grand for a lot of aluminum
instead you forkin over 7 grand for a lot of aluminum and silicon and gold and copper
which is a little bit better
scurvy @ Jun 11th 2008 3:56PM
That loop is a bit discontinuous, does it exit the case and then re-enter? Looks pretty neat to me, not cluttered at all for a liquid cooling job.
Phil Perman @ Jun 11th 2008 4:16PM
Looks like its got 2 separate cooling loops, one got the CPU and chipset going to a radiator next to the hard drives, and a second loop for the GPU's going to a radiator in the top. That sort of setup would have some serious cooling potential and give a lot of overclocking headroom.
Whats puzzling me the most is how how the motherboard is pointing up, rather than to the back, how on earth are you meant to get to all the ports?!?
TheGeektoriousBIG @ Jun 11th 2008 4:29PM
@Phil
Its like standing your tower on it's face with the connections on top. Then it's a cover that conceals the wires/connections which leads the wires out the back. Pretty cool.

natels @ Jun 11th 2008 4:18PM
You can get a pretty decent computer for 700 bucks.
Zach @ Jun 11th 2008 5:55PM
Twelve year olds shouldn't say shit.
PCIV @ Jun 11th 2008 4:33PM
Not exactly cluttered... but I expected better from Voodoo. Like the clean wires that never were they used to have.
Ryan Singer @ Jun 11th 2008 4:59PM
HMMM... I LIKE THE OUTSIDE BETTER. ...NOT CONVINCED ABOUT THE INSIDE.

I can't wait until SATA cabling is able to be daisy-chained. I think once the SATA spec reaches 1 GB/sec throughput, this will be a possibility. I also like the idea of having power and data on the same cable. Both of these ideas will definitely reduce cable-mess inside your case. To this end, (and while I'm dreaming) I'd also like to see EXTERNAL and modular videocards being offered for high-end users, a la eSATA devices. That way, you won't cause a cooling problem and power problem with your computer. It will have its own internal PSU and cooling solution.
