How many times must we revisit this phone?
Juice @ Jun 12th 2008 11:04AM
Oh, exclusive, Engadget Mobile gets to own the VZW Centro hands on... I bet they're excited about that. ::rollseyes::
Nate @ Jun 12th 2008 1:51PM

Engadget sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
schagg @ Jun 12th 2008 12:03PM
and yet... you still keep coming back.
ultrasur1 @ Jun 14th 2008 7:37PM
you bring absolutely nothing to any threads. in fact, you dumb it down quite considerably. complain all you want, but you've continued to visit engadget for a number of years while claiming it sucks. that makes as much sense as your ridiculous posts.
Vidit Bhargava @ Jun 12th 2008 11:08AM
looks straight n simple...strictly for the business user...no mixing work n play

I just hope by pimping this underpowered device with it's extremely outdated os, that Palm can make enough money to actually develop a modern phone. Forget the OS, just assimilate with Android already.
loosely_coupled @ Jun 12th 2008 5:26PM
Screw Palm. The idiots running the circus over there ruined a fine company. They will NEVER be able to get back on top again. And what a monumental waste of time it was for them to be developing a new OS when Android will crush *anything* they could possibly come up with. They should have been producing the next-generation Treo this whole time. For god sakes, they haven't had a truly new device for FIVE YEARS!

I would not say never.
Apple rose from the ashes, and they were in pretty bad shape, though it can be argued that always retained a loyal fan base - mostly artsy graphics types. Palm on the other hand has succeeded in alienating even their most loyal of customers - including me. The Treo 650 was a nightmare until they offered an update. After my 650 experience you could not have paid me to own a 700.
Honestly I would not want to be tasked with getting Palm back on its feet with Blackberry beating Palm from one side and Apple the other. I hope Palm can pull it off, but they will need to come out with one heck of a phone - without iTunes (I say this b/c palm is sort of a business / pleasure x-over), better exchange / email support, and updated software they are DOA in my books.
Good Luck Palm.

I have this phone on the Sprint network and honestly I was disappointed. With such and old OS its not worth the news at this point. Palm really needs to update their OS and release it soon.
Harley3k @ Jun 12th 2008 12:01PM
What they really need is to develop a small laptop form factor accessory to go with your palm. Fall it the Folio!
I'm sure they were just way ahead of their time, and the really meant to invent the EEPC instead.
Niki @ Jun 12th 2008 12:01PM
Palm,
Either make a good looking phone, [continue to] make a bad looking phone with a good OS, or just go out of business already!
chefgon_ign @ Jun 12th 2008 12:13PM
I actually think the Centro is pretty nice looking. If it wasn't for that pesky Palm OS I might actually be interested in the thing.
W. Park @ Jun 12th 2008 12:43PM
own the treo centro on sprint. it was an emergency replacement for my 755P. both are much better than any win-mo phone I've had primarily because they do phone and exchange (corporate email and calendaring) well.
with iphone 2.0, see no need to keep suffering from bad web experience, old ugly OS, and hit or miss Sprint service reps. am switching!
Oinquer @ Jun 12th 2008 1:22PM
I think Centro is very nice in aesthetics...but maybe its cause im european lol.
as for the OS..what can we do? Palm as been asleep.
peerless @ Jun 12th 2008 12:53PM
Hey Verizon, welcome to last century... Sprint has had this phone for a while, doesn't ATT have it as well?
fourthletter @ Jun 12th 2008 1:04PM
Nearly as ugly as an iPhone.......
LinuxMacWindows Fanboy @ Jun 12th 2008 1:10PM
I love the look of the Centro.... it's ALOT better than the Treo. I would get one... But....that OS is the deal-breaker. :-(
Chris @ Jun 12th 2008 1:12PM
Looks a lot like mine... only it doesn't have the logo of an evil company on it...
Chris @ Jun 12th 2008 1:13PM
Rather, MINE doesn't have the logo of an evil company on it...
LinuxMacWindows Fanboy @ Jun 12th 2008 3:42PM
Oh? You mean access? Cause that OS REALLY needs an update..... I would rather have the "evil logo companys" slow red firmware than this firmware that looks like it came out of Windows 95. (appearance-wise, obviously)
DssTrainer @ Jun 12th 2008 1:15PM
GAH! When is Palm gonna learn to stop making phones with the inset screen that makes pushing buttons in the corners completely impossible by finger. Mogul has the same problem. It was nice to see the Touch at least made it all level, tho they should have used the entire width.
JerkfacedFed @ Jun 12th 2008 4:57PM
agreed, and when are they going to learn that their OS sucks and is irrelevant these days. Can it and go with custom linux, android, or windows mobile you fools
Matthew @ Jun 12th 2008 6:58PM
Ehh, PalmOS is still very nice. It's better than WindowsMobile and whatever Blackberry calls it's clunky OS. It might need an aesthetic makeover, but the functionality is fine. What this phone ACTUALLY needs is WiFi and UMA. Once you go UMA you never want to go back to the old days.
Chris @ Jun 12th 2008 7:25PM
I agree. I don't know what other smartphones have in the way of texts, but personally I think Palm's "conversation" method of listing texts is brilliant. I probably won't always buy Palm, and when I have another phone that feature will be sorely missed.
John @ Jun 13th 2008 12:45AM
I have the Palm on the Sprint network and I can honestly say it's a great phone. It's a Treo, but smaller. What else do you want or expect? I think the form factor is good as well. The OS may be old but why does that matter if it works? Seriously, what's the big deal about the OS? The way it looks? Really? Well, you can install software to make it look differently. Stop bitching about it already.
mountain_racer @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:29AM
.....no bluetooth audio support outside the phone function, unless you purchase a $20 program :(
.....wifi is locked out by verizon :( - anxiously awaiting hax
These are just initial observations since I just bought the phone for $50 after my employer discount. So more reviews may follow
