Nokia's got a new no-frills handset coming to Verizon on June 15th, the Nokia 6205. Specs like a 1.3 megapixel camera, 58MB of memory and the Verizon UI -- no thank you -- won't have us in a hurry to turn in our N95, but the real news here is that the phone was designed by Nokia itself, and they're promising even more phones for Verizon in the future -- though S60 might not be in the cards. The 6205 has a 2-inch 176 x 220 screen on the inside, and a 1.28-inch 128 x 128 LCD on the back, there's a microSD slot, plenty of audio codec support, Bluetooth and a paltry 4 hours of talk time due to the EV-DO connection this thing wastes on a WAP 2.0 browser. It comes in the standard blue version, available in July, or you can pick up "The Dark Knight" edition
we heard about (pictured), complete with movie-based ringtones and a pre-loaded trailer, on June 15th. Both will retail for $119 with contract.
In need of some hands-on of this phone? That's weird.
Check it out at Engadget Mobile.

Phones designed FOR Helen Keller, BY Helen Keller.

I'm more amazed why do Verizon need to have so shitty phones.
I mean i havent seen Nokia phone less than 2mp for 2 years 0.0
Verizon got so small user base for European and Asian phone giants that it's no point to really push any products out there. Just making same phones with different shell.
iEye @ Jun 13th 2008 9:27AM
Nokia, your phone is putting me to sleep...
this should be $0 on a contract...
Mike @ Jun 13th 2008 10:02AM
Its why nokia phones haven't been big at verizon in ages....they just never get any better.
Sure you can change the casing, but thats all they really changed.

I'm glad you're publicly bashing the Verizon UI. I've been using my Moto E815 for 2.5 years now, and though I'm due for an upgrade, I can't bear the thought of dropping the traditional Moto UI for VZW's awful experiment in anti-usability.

I heard the Black DK version launches on VZW.com next week and Blue version will be out in July. Seems like the first of many phones for Nokia on VZW.
XenoX101 @ Jun 13th 2008 10:45AM
Nice, the look reminds me of the KRZR, lets hope it doesn't turn out like the KRZR in any other way.
seabreeze @ Jun 13th 2008 11:37AM
You guys bitching about this phone need to chill. The Nokia rep showed this at our sales meeting this week and it is actually a nice phone. It certainly looks MUCH better than the current LG and Samsung we sell with comparable features.
We were told the black version is available online and the blue in stores in July.
happy_penguin @ Jun 13th 2008 12:00PM
I think there is still a market for simple phones. If anything I think this phone as too many features. Make it simple, compact and rugged, and offer it free with contract. Not everyone is interested in all the toys. Bring back something like the Motorola Startac. That is still the best cell phone I ever owned.
Shahryar @ Jun 18th 2008 9:17AM
I agree. I'm a pretty big Nokia fan (own a N76, owned a 6170, 8890, 8860,etc...wife owns an N82, had an 8801, etc.) and would like to see more Nokias out there. Hopefully this is the first of many phones to finally roll out by Nokia for CDMA. My secondary phone is a Sprint Mogul which I use for my data needs and I would love to replace it with a high end Nokia PDA device in the near future.
Although the Batman thing here is kind of funny. Batman has always had the best gadgets so this is kind of insulting.
elio1999 @ Jun 18th 2008 10:25PM
NOKIA phones are far from"simple" phone !!!!
Towncivilian @ Jun 13th 2008 12:48PM
If you have a RAZR or similar phone on Verizon, you can put custom firmware on it and get rid of the horrible Verizon UI.
pji @ Jun 13th 2008 2:07PM
Wow, I can't wait to get this or one of the other crap dumb phones they announced this week! Really, I'm not interested in the Touch Pro or symbian based smart phone.
I'm happy to see they really step it up for the 13 year olds on the network...
Viakenny @ Jun 13th 2008 7:42PM
fortunately for us Brazilians, Vivo (the only CDMA carrier here) launched its GSM network a couple of years ago, and we have lots of Nokia phones that are at least decent.
including Nseries and Eseries.
elio1999 @ Jun 17th 2008 10:55PM
NOKIA are still the best phones....there's no arguing on that.
No wonder it's the best sold phones in the world, except here in the U.S,
aslo what i hate here in the U.S.,that you are very limited to cell phones.
in other countries i walk into a store i choose a phone that "I" like, you have choise of hundred's of phones, and then you choose tha carrier you like, but here you are limited to a few phone that your carrier has.
i'm transferring to Verizon now because AT&T is crap ,bad bad reception....
on the day that i went on the Verizon website ,i saw that NOKIA 6205.
now i'm just waiting for it to be shipped to me,
CAN'T WAIT......:)
shmoo @ Jun 18th 2008 1:03AM
I don't see what's so bad about this phone. If you want it in black, you HAVE to get the "Dark Knight" edition, whether you like Batman or not. All I do with a phone is talk on it, text message a bit, and take a picture every once in a while. Oh, and I use it as an alarm clock.
AND THAT'S IT.
Anyone who thinks they need all these high-tech, fancy phones that do all kinds of other B.S. are playing at being "grandiose." Internet? Do it at home, and it's cheaper, too.
elio1999 @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:45PM
This phone is NOT a NOKIA !!!!!!!!!
it's a VERIZON phone with a Nokia logo on it.
Verizon changed everything on it,i got my wife the LG chocolat and it's the same as the nokia, just different packaging.
come on VERIZON we in 2008 not 1994 !!!!!
i love nokia phones cause of their technology....
DON'T GET THIS PHONE.....
Blaster @ Jul 18th 2008 4:45PM
"Z0MG its not a n0kia bcuz the Verizon ui makz it not n0kia!!11!!!1"
It's still a Nokia phone by hardware. The firmware is modified by the carrier to their standards. That's so people don't need to take college clases to learn how to use their new phone because the menus are different.
