Pal Technology's REEM-B humanoid shown off in Abu Dhabi
We heard that Pal Technology's REEM-B would be "fully revealed in Q1 2008," and while things seem to be running ever-so-slightly behind, we can't gripe too much. The creature was recently shown off in Abu Dhabi, where onlookers swooned and secretly crushed on the totally macho being. Its creators have also announced that the 1.47-meter tall robot was the last prototype to be formed, as it has plans for a commercial venture "in the near future." The overriding goal for REEM-B is to have it act as a service bot for the elderly and disabled, and considering that it has no qualms reacting to voice commands and "engaging in simple conversations," we'd say it's pretty well suited to do just that. Check out the video after the break to see it in action.

I don't get it. His remark wasn't obviously referring to any specific religious group. He said Arab, not Muslim.
It was just a comment in just commenting on the sad state of womens rights within certain Arab states.
It's like the "Fat America" or "Nanny State" jokes... not correct but with a dash of truth. Try not to be so hypersensitive. Sheesh.
if you know the region well, you'll realize that Arabs and Muslims are almost one of the same.. I know there are christians and jews within the arabic soceity, but the society itself is shaped greatly by islam.. Not entirely, but greatly..
So whether you insult an arab/muslim.. its almost the same.. you're bring racist remarks..
Calling a "fat american" is a little different from a "suicide arab" .. im with humour and you can go on about the arabs and what they wear and all that..
@ Artie Lange ..
You proved my point exactly, you've based your entire perspective on this culture with a site..
Crime happens everywhere and stoning women is one of them.. What I said though is that Islam itself has nothing to do with it.. So if ppl choose to stone women in the name of Islam, then they're wrong and they've smeared the image of this religion..
And then you continue to show your ignorance.. Let's take this article for example.. its in Abu Dhabi.. part of the United Arab of Emirates .. do you know how much more advanced this place is than most countries in the world? .. do you know that Dubai gets more tourists than Las Vegas?
You might have seen things on TV to support your barbaric and desert comment.. But please try to base those comments on actual facts.. I feel sorry for you because you're buried in this big bowl of lies..
only if you know what the american troops are doing in Iraq, you'll know who's barbaric then...
ohhh ooops.. I meant @ Ian..
Typical Islamic brain washing and indoctrination. Dubai was built by enslaving those poor Indian people who take sub150$ per month and 9 persons or more living in a 1 room bedroom with no decent health care and sometimes they don't get even their salary for 9 months working under scorching heat while a native citizen there gets 3000$ sitting in the office drinking coffee and reading newspapers and you come and brag that Dubai is far more modernized. Sheesh.
We may be looking at the worlds first burka-wearing robot...
Reem? LOL
I bet it has a secret compartment for C4
I think the Dubai government is onto something sinister....
Robot technology acquisition: check
All the money on the planet: check
Full mind control of all of Dubai citizens and citizens of the biggest oil consumer in the world: in progress
Only 10% of Dubai's income comes from Oil.... 90% ---> Tourism.
I actually didn't know that till I saw it on Travel Chanel... always thought it was one of em oil rich countries.
But that robot sure looks, moves, and functions a lot more impressively than Asimo (the one that fell on stage.... and the guys in charge made it worse by running all around and making a huge fuss out of it... as if they never has a "worse case" scenario before the presentation)
i know someone out there must be developing an Android mobile app that remotely controls this robot.
alright so I saw some Asimo videos and turns out it's pretty good... (besides the infamous fall)

@ Marwan
when will Arabs/Muslims learn that they are living now not 1400 years ago? Maybe after another 1400 years. The fact that in Abu Dhabi they are rich and have petrol and they bought this robot with their money. A high school students there doesn't even know 8x5 = what.
As for the stoning, it doesn't have to be in Quran for a muslim to stone a woman which is even worse.
Does it ride a camel or it wont survive the desert there.
Probably not, but check out this robot camel jockey:
