Sharp's 108-inch LCD giant now yours for $100,000
Making good on its promise at CES in January, Sharp just announced the Japanese retail launch of its 108-inch monument to television. The LB-1085 features a 108-ASV 1080p LCD panel with a 400 cd/m2 brightness, 1,200:1 contrast, 6-ms response, and 176-degree viewing angle. Around back you'll find 3x HDMI, 1x DVI, 2x component, and a smattering of other in-and-out. It measures 8.4 x 0.66 x 5.1-feet and weighs 430-pounds (195kg) with an ¥11 million (about $100,000) price tag to match that luxurious heft. Now, anybody want a peanut?

Me want!
But will never be able to afford :(
Just buy yourself a projector and paint a portion of a wall white.
My acer projector produces an actual screen size of 118inch at my place.
The color and image quality is great, though not full 1080p but internal 1024x768. It only cost me about $600 , and if you want Full HD, there are HD projectors available for a bit more.
So you choose, either 600 dollars for 118inch, or $100,000 for a very small 108 inch...
Moobs. Try getting them.
You may get money from modeling in a TV Ad for TVs just like that guy :D
Time to refinance the house.
Too bad that guy is dead.
Dad, Is that you?
You could afford a projector and get a bigger picture for much cheaper.
1,200:1 contrast? That's horrible! Couldn't they offer a little better contrast in a $100,000 TV? People are supposed to buy THIS when they could get a slightly smaller but still enormous model with far superior contrast for less?
That's the ugliest woman I ever seen!
Shirley you can't be serious.
I am serious now quit calling me Shirley.
My good man Thomas...Isn't cleavage supposed to be Gizmodo's forte?
It's a total ripoff. I get all my panels from Panasonic: their 103incher is only $70k.
Agreed, Plasma is much cheaper than LCD and technically better for video.
your currency conversion seems to be off by a factor of about 2...
You're right... 2Mil Yen comes out at $18518.57
sorry, typo. fixed.
Thomas
Yet again, I should learn to read... nope you're wrong...
11,000,000.00 JPY = 101827.1141 USD
Close enough I feel!
Out of every other stock image in the world, they just had to choose that?
I just hope thats not box art. It isn't even suited for a halloween children's toy.
What about my avatar? is it suited to Halloween children's candy?
are you all daft? That's Andre the Giant, and i'm quite positive that Engadget modified this photo...it's called comedy, try it sometime!
“You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never to get involved in a land war in Asia. And only slightly less well known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!”
I'd love to watch p0rn on this thing.
what a sexy m*f*er!
¥2,000,000 = $18,515.09 as of 12:49 AM PST Friday, June 13th.
I'm not exactly sure how you came up with the $100,000 dollar figure, but it appears to be very, very wrong.
Ahhh, I see you suffer from the the old "confuse ¥11Mil with ¥2Mil" problem. I do that all the time!
Nice resolution, I bet you can see single pixels from a foot away,
i better get laid with this thing...
The conversion is right 11,000,000 Japanese Yens equal to 101,835.70 USD.
Now, either you have money coming out of your "ahem" lower back, either you would be just simply nuts to waste THIS much for a 108 incher.
A Sharp - AQUOS 65" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV goes for 8,000 USD at BestBuy and you're telling me that the premium for 41" more inches is 93,000 USD ???
Either the guys at Sharp don't know their math or they are simply going postal with this kind of prices...
I don't think anyone in the right peace of mind would pay this kind of money unless they don't care about it or they are billionaires (...and even being a billionaire, I wouldn't waste 100,000 USD on a TV).
This price is simply ridiculous considering how prices have been going down and down in the last 2 years.
It simply is NONSENSE.
im pretty sure it costs sharp alot more to produce one of these things than it does for them to produce 2 of the 60 inchers
I want one...
the peanut that is
:-)
Please take that horrible picture down asack...er I mean asap.
princess bride reference=epic win
Inconceivable!
No more rhyming now, I mean it.
@King Mook Mook: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
"I'm on the brute squad"
"You ARE the brute squad"
Is that you Andre?!
Oh, you're playing a giant simpleton named Fezzik? Terrific!
Andre, I miss you.
Yes Andre, RIP.
Or rather, "...rest well and dream of large women."
1200:1 contrast....................why even bother. Jokers.
Andre has a posse!
Awesom
Man i grew up in RI and that takes me back (though its still around)
Andre the Giant Has a Posse
What a clossal waste of money. What douche bag would buy something like this? You can spend $30k for an absolutely amazing HD projector that would out perform this thing by far. Better yet, buy two of them and have them aligned in a rack for an even better picture.
yes but then your pickup line has to be "Hey ladies want to see my projector?"
sorry knew someone in college who actually used that as a pickup line, the sad part? it worked once or twice.
"A large stream out the window "as white as theatre" worthy of the name of the bright lobby, videos and movie previews and advertisements featuring powerful images of a large MERIHARI."
I'm sold.
Obey Giant
So, that graphic tells me things will never change:
Even after spending $100,000, it seems people will always set their TV to 'stretch' instead of respecting the correct aspect ratio...
Nope, he really was that wide. Wiki Andre the Giant.
Whoever buys this TV is a moron. It is obviously a rip-off...You can get a 60" LCD TV for about $6000 so 40" will not jack up the price by $95,000. If you spend $100,000 on a TV you deserve to be shot, for real.
Why on earth would anyone want a Black & White TV in this day and age? I don't get it.
I will obey!
