clak.....I'm using FireFox on my PowerBook right now soooo......um yeah.
I did say that I didn't have a personal preference as well. Maybe you missed that?
As for the iPod, well. I don't like iTunes, and I don't like the touch wheel. That's all. I guess that's a big deal though. Sorry.
@clak:
Yeah, Zune is almost as ridiculous as iPod...whatever the hell those are.
And it's not like the people who buy the 80GB Zune would even consider an iPod touch--more likely the Classic, which the Zune bests. We're talking about the players in the 80GB category, not 32.
?What is the Reality Distortion Field? Control. The Reality Distortion Field is a marketing-generated dream-world built to keep us under control in order to turn a human being into this (holds up a lemming)--Morpheus, The Matrix?
(See? It works both ways.)
@clak:
Sorry, but my Firefox seems to have a natural aversion to the Apple logo.
clak:
I think, now that you mention it, Firefox 3b5 (the last time I used it) did render the Apple logos, but now I'm just waiting for 3 to be released on Tuesday.
I'm sure if I switch over to my iPT I'll see the Apple logos just fine, but I'm too lazy to do that right now.
It's good to enjoy what you do, so have at it.
?I wonder if Chigurh unchecked the "E-Mail me when someone replies to this comment" box?
@jer jer
Here's the rub though, if you are a programmer, chances are that you are part of a team. Chances are that that team is using common tools for CVS control. Bet your bottom dollar that back end for the CVS is operating UNIX, equally the front end is running on a PC client.
@clak
Come on, I don't hate Apple. "Hate" is a word to be reserved for your ex-wife. I don't have that much passion for Windows, to "hate" Mac's. (IMHO, if you have that much passion either way, something is wrong - I refer you to Dave up there ).
Sure, I am still a little pissed that with the performance of my Mac Mini, the troubles that I had with it (faults) and it's un-timely early death, and the hours and hours spent travelling to the Genius bar and the waiting...
I was a great evangelist of my Mac for a period of time; I would tell everyone that would listen (my friends) of the logic behind it - "Give it a go", I would say... "I use Windows all day, everyday, on my laptop, often working from home...when I have finished work and I want to use my computer, I don't want to be reminded of work, so I bought a Mac to give me that 'distance'. "
BUT...
1. The damned thing kept breaking down. Apple would not replace it. 2 months after I bought it they brought out the 5400 rpm drive, 6 months after I bought it they brought out the Intel chip. They would not acknowledge that they produced a lemon.
2. Putting aside all of the Crashes and the Hanging. I found the file handling software unintuitive (e.g Moving files meant really going back and deleting the originals - plus the heavy use of the control button and the apple button... I am a keystroke man, not a big fan of the mouse, if I can hit a key combination instead of moving the mouse, I am happy - but Mac keystrokes are a blinding combination).
Blah blah blah...
So when you tie together the software and the hardware, making Steve respnosible for their pairing, I gotta take exception. From my experience. It was a bad one.
If I compare it to my Dell/Windows/Intel experience. All of the Laptops I have ever bought for work, maybe 60 to 70 of them, have been Dell; for a little extra I get the "complete care", no hassle, no questions asked in the office or at home repair. Our fault rate has been so low.
There you have it. And I am glad that you find it unsettling to be complimented, however small a way it may be. My guess is that you are in the entertainment business clak. You are a showman.
I think Clak is in the stealth marketing business, esp when he brings out the pre-fab responses.
Bravo to you sir.
You were unbiased and clean cut with your comments
careful not to be a hater, with the exception to the fanboys slightly.
And for what it's worth, i very much enjoy my Dell. Due to no ones fault but my own inability to keep coffee in a cup, i have had the keyboard on my 620 a few times. They always send me the new parts i need within a day, no longer, no questions asked, and always with a smile. Plus if you know what you are doing they will just send you the parts and let you do it yourself. That kind of thing makes me smile.
So for what its wroth, every engadget post will either cause a zune/ipod conflict, or a mac/windows conflict. and always with a tiny voice piping about Ubuntu (love me some ubuntu.)
And as far as MAcs are concerned, they do crash. The fans do go crazy sometimes, and on the macbooks, there tend to be some trouble with it not recognizing disks in the drive since it doesnt has an encasing. This is first hand knowledge. Not google info.
Cant we just love each other?
:)
Lol, how pathetic.
These cards and their variants have been out for nearly a year already on the PC front, and its successor is due in a week or so, and Apple is just now getting this already dated technology.
Always late to the game when it comes to performance parts, and usually end up costing 2x more than what they are worth.
iFools will still be lining up to purchase these PC leftovers, for what though...to play Quake3?
"Always late to the game when it comes to performance parts, and usually end up costing 2x more than what they are worth."
which microsoft smartphone has twice the performance of the iphone for $100>?
no really I mean, I am in the market (like right around mid-ish july) for a smartphone and always love miracles.
You could get the Tilt from LetsTalk.com or Wirefly.com for < $200 after rebates, and it destroys the iPhone in terms of features and capabilities.
Only someone who isn't in the know would opt for the iPhone given the choice above.
the funny thing is I have been a mac fan since the apple II and grabbed the first ipod the first day- recently though I was tempted to buy a zune (for some reason I liked the breast cancer Zune edition as I thought it was a cool-looking pink and of course I support Breasts) so that I could once again be the lone maverick all those previous years of apple-usage made me. Of course I am a little locked into itunes (though use a certain other program on my imod {look it up}), so the lack of itunes loading a zune somewhat stopped me at this point though . It sure would be a good rub from steve to make itunes support a Zune though :) Apple needs to make skins for itunes, or at least some customizing
@clak,
You are absolutely right. But...
1. I am getting my urges under control - non prescription drugs and alternative therapy is helping.
2. I think it is clear that I did not use the word "hate".
Yes, I too was a child once, then child-like, and still occasionally.
@clak
damn you clak. you got me again. you are right I have been quite spiteful. i am sorry.
@clak
I left my profile open so that people can see who I am and what I have said. Did I catch someone the other day saying that you have set yours to private ?
Why would do that ? I always found your posts quite entertaining to read. Would you deny us that ?
@clak,
oh and the term "Apple Hater" is not really doing it for me. Why don't you have a go at the visuals about you and my Mother - I have not been on the receiving end of one of those ? But whatever you do, don't you dare say anything about my Dad, you keep him out of this, you say something against him, well I will be upset.....unless of course you had anything to do with my mother ... Dad, is that you ?
I'm convinced. Clak loves the abuse. :)
it'll do
"City Life?" Get back to me when it's "Thug Life" 'cause that's the only way The Dude rolls, bitches.
You'd think apple would lean more towards Nvidia cards seen as they tend to have stronger OGL performance....
Here comes the apple hate:
LOLOLOL A year old midrange Graphics card finally makes its way to the mac, Celebrate \o/
So... you weren't aware that the 8800GT is a BTO option with Mac Pros? To put it another way, Apple clearly does lean towards nVidia. And midrange it may be, but performance is right around the 8800GT, placing it closer to high end than mid range.
Will this work with my 1st Gen Mac Pro?
$219 is a steal for a top of the line Mac Graphics Card.
Yes, and that's why a lot of Pro owners are happy with this news. For half as much as the 8800GT you get a card that's roughly equivalent in performance. Go forth and purchase, you won't be sorry.
The RV670 was supposed to do about 500GFLOPS for the FireStream 9170 and the RV770 that's supposed to be powering the next gen 4800's and FireStream 9250 is supposed to do a bit over 1TFLOP on the chip with the X2 model able to push over 2 TFLOPS.
Your accounting of the 3870 being outdated is pretty accurate then since AMD/ATI is noting that they're basically doubling the theoretical performance figure in this next generation.
