3K Computers' RazorBook 400 gets hands-on treatment
The sub-$300 RazorBook 400 is far from being the most potent netbook on the block, but that succulent price tag will likely compensate in the eyes of some folks. If you're one such character, you'll probably want to take a look at the first hands-on video with said unit. Predictably, this bad boy is ridiculously small, and if the 45 second boot-up is any indication, it's pretty sluggish as well. Video is just after the break.

The article from may 28th promised a 8-second-boot-time.
I guess that was for the POST.

What the hell, that review unit doesn't have integrated wifi? Who makes a ultra-sub-note-umpc-netbook-whatever without onboard wifi? Terrible.

The lack of a D-Sub or DVI-Connector bothers me just as much. This makes the device pretty much useless for presentations and thus for any business / university campus use.

oh come on...
wifi is soooo not essential...
what they need to do is make a multi thousand foot network cable, and we'll just snake it all over the place. =]

They're really scrounging the bottom of the barrel for cute taiwanese booth babes. I mean, yyeesh

~1:35 he turns it on
~2:12 it's booted up
That's ~37 seconds and not the lazily estimated 45 seconds.
Did he say 400 Mhz? Holy shit, Batman. Why have the Clutter/Flash interface on such a low spec'd system? If you don't want it to run like molasses I'd think they'd at least put IceWM on that.

Ugly, slow and pointless.
Next please.

I think it looks kinda nice for what it is. The cover should be matte to help hide scratches. Battery life is important and I think 400mhz is good enough for web browsing and email. It would make a nice little cafe browsing machine so wifi should be integrated.

Everyone else, too!

I'd recommend the sony vaio TZ. You could get one as low as $1000 especially this time of the year. Thats only a few hundred bucks more then this yet the experience and performance you get is worth alot more.

3K computer? So, does that mean this is a portable VIC-20?
Avram @ Jun 16th 2008 8:36PM
We did a hands-on with this at LAPTOP a few weeks ago. Our unit, like his, did not come with Wi-Fi and worse still there's no way to update the software at all. There's no command prompt in the linux, no package manager for updates, no way at all to update. And the Firefox on there is an ALPHA version of Firefox 2.0 (oh and flash didn't work).
You should check out our hands-on video and 3K's response that we were trying to use the system for "things it wasn't intended for'

Wow. I wouldn't consider this piece of junk if it was priced at $50.
