Sony's new DR-BT140Q A2DP cans look to be Japan-only for the moment, but that won't stop us from pausing a moment to take a peek. Apparently they get about 12 hours battery life, and their 30mm drivers have a frequency response of 16Hz - 24KHz. White, pink, black, or silver, which will it be?
The worst thing happening with A2DP is the shitty Microsoft Bluetooth drivers that drop audio when you move the mouse. Toshiba stack lets you select A2DP quality settings and that is a MASSIVE improvement.
i really like these as a replacement to my HBH-DS970 SE headphones. i like em, but in ear's are no good when ur driving and such. i can hear the caller but i can't hear the road, not good.
I didn't want to be the first to mention this. Is there any hope that iPhone will ever support devices such as this? Because I would really like to check it out. It's not a huge deal to me, but it would be nice.
That may just be a mic light. I can't imagine they'd locate the mic there, and for noise cancellation, it'd have to be on each earpiece. Or perhaps it is a mic, but is used to cancel noise from the other microphone pointed at your mouth / head.
um. 16Hz-24kHz? WHY? our hearing range without any damage is 20Hz-20kHz. if your older than 25 chances are your down to 18kHz. I don't like how every product being pushed out these days is about bigger numbers than the competition
Frequencies react on eachother causing resonance frequencies, in other words a frequency you cannot hear can change the parts you can hear. So theoretically it might make a difference, although what you hear on speakers/headphones is obviously already finished that process largely, but if you have an instrument it could be certainly better if it created sounds outside our direct range of hearing. Incidentally, I'm not so sure that lower number is actually correct for the average (modern) person, and don't forget that when it gets really low your other sense start to take over and you feel rather than hear the vibration.
Looks nice! I have the older Sony model (DR-BT30QA or something like that) that I picked up in Japan, and they're great. The form factor is perfect and the sound quality is top-notch (no SBC here!)
Fantastic, just gone on sale recently too. I have the BT30Q the same as greenlight but I do admit they are a bit on the big side. This slimmer version is just great - no wires, no problem. A must have gadget if ever I seen one. Never had a problem with the mic and the voice-dialling works a treat. Just tap the right earpiece, say the name and your connected. Can't wait.....
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
And no mention of price. Could be a good alternative to the Motorola S9...
JayBird JB-200 works fine for the most part.

Looks like it's 8,980 yen, courtesy of Sony Style Japan:

Damn, that is hot.
I love the futuristic look of these. Also, i like bluetooth headsets. They look like they came from the future.
the future, Conan?
Hey.
Technically, I just replied to you from the future. How cool is that?
Uhm, what's your definition of 'technically'?
sucks the iphone won't be compatible....

it's a shame, cuz the sound quality is top notch.

I'll have to get me a pair next time I go home to Tokyo.
sorru buddy you suck now
iphone don't supp...A2DP~
still a nissan
is it just me, or does anyone else wonder what those cords hanging out of the bottom are, if these are bluetooth...?
I'm sure it's to link one earpiece to the other.
that must be the power cables....
I jest...
probably a cable to link the Left and Right channel together.
Who knows with that pic though... leaves a lot to the imagination. ;)
The microphone isn't REALLY on the outside of the headphones... is it?
Apparently it is. It doesn't seem as though that would work very well, does it?
Noise cancellation maybe? That's how it works isn't it?

Bluetooth... with wires? No thanks.

And yet I've seen some commenters say "Crap frequency range, only 20Hz-20KHz". Why not push bigger numbers when that's what consumers demand?
That's just theoretical capability. No regular source material is going to hit that range anyway.
WOOF WOOF
16Hz-24kHz @ -9db means that you'll have a flatter response curve all the way to the bottom

Haha Sony really had an original idea here, didn't they...

No doubt with a non-changeable security code of 0000.
Japan only, that explains the Chobits look
Let's see...... If I have a bluetooth "earphone" for my right ear and a bluetooth receiver on my left ear for my phone!
Wow! Don't know if that would have me arrested, drive me crazy or just maybe someone else.
Don't you love audio and video stimulation. Must be that ADHD thing!
super! yet another pair of 'futuristic looking' BT headphones that make you look like a jerk and are unsuitable for people who happen to wear glasses!
So get lenses or laser surgery :)
Or design a pair of glasses without ear rests but instead attachments to clamp to headphones.
Or get an old style pince-nez like this: http://www.eyeglasseswarehouse.com/images/theodoreroosevelt.jpg

man, these look great. I can't wait to get my new iPhone and get some of these for my twelve-odd gig of music!
... Wait.
