European Commission approves Nokia's acquisition of Trolltech
Not like we were really suspecting any issues or anything, but the European Commission has just made public its "unconditional approval" of Nokia's "voluntary tender offer for all the shares in Trolltech ASA." In other words, Nokia's acquisition of Trolltech is officially complete, with today being the final day in which the latter company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Such a cute couple, don't you think?

Seriously, Trolltech? What do they make web forum and bloging software?
Kris @ Jun 17th 2008 9:38AM
Actually, they make Qt as well as a prototype Linux phone that was actually pretty cool.
I hope Nokia can leverage the Qt framework and the work Trolltech has already done on their Linux phone.

KDE anyone? Qt is a cross platform graphical widget toolkit for the development framework of GUI computer programs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qt_%28toolkit%29

Nokia road to some linux powered phones. Some one in finnish forum said that there is proto linux phone alive thought who knows when first linux powered Nokia would be out. This is rumours so take that info as you want.
They will have some plans for Trolltech that's for sure. It's not like they buy company worth of 160 million dollars just for fun.

Happens though in business, they buy companies for hundreds of millions and do nothing with them, even when they aren't competitors.
