Sony's 32-inch Bravia TV turns green with our envy
Meet the greenest 32-inch TV on the planet, Sony's BRAVIA KDL-32JE1. The set achieves a 232% efficiency rating -- that's just 86kWh/year -- to easily best the 164% rating required for Japan's highest five-star "Energy Saving Label." Spec watchers will find a WXGA (1,366 x 768) LCD, 2,500:1 contrast, 178-degree viewing angle, and range of in/outs including 2x HDMI and 2x component. Yours in Japan starting July 30th for around ¥150,000 or about $1,387.

Very nice Sony.... countries should give tax exemption for purchasing this TV.
Am I the only one curious as to how this or any device can be 232% efficient?
This must be marketing, efficiency can only be 100%, so
'The set achieves a 232% efficiency rating'
Is either balls or the set gives back more energy than it uses...
Er could be a translation error. The google-translated version seems a bit garbled.
Then again I don't speak Japanese so maybe it's perfect. I mean, if Japan says you can have 232%, I'll believe em.
From the lousy translated article:
Energy-saving products based on the law established under the category of the annual power consumption rate to achieve standards for the numeric value. The law established under the 32 V-type LCD TV has an annual power consumption of 200 kWh / year to 100 percent. If you achieve 100% to achieve energy-saving standards and that it represents, the greater the numbers show the high performance energy saving. Statement figures are the criteria for rating of 2008.
So less than 200kWh/year, means more than 100% according to these standards. Nowhere it is said that it has an efficiency of 200%!!!
So you're saying it produces more energy than it uses?
Free energy for all! ;-)
232%?
So... this TV is a perpetual motion machine?
Its an efficiency rating, not efficiency! Do u get the difference??
Back on Topic:
For that price, I can get a 40" 1080p LCD... I'd rather pay $100 a year more than get a crapy 32", just my opinion.
What
in the world
are you talking about
?
@Pochi
I's perfectly clear to me, he says he rather pay $100 in electricity every year instead of buying this overpriced POS.
There you go.
232%
you lot are so dumb, to think people actually take info from this site too. No proof reading or sanity checking this before letting google translate it for you?
yea had just noticed that. So is it acculaly the firefox 3 then.
Take that HUMMER!
Grow up...
Sony, in this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!
$1,387 for a 32 inch HDTV. Is Sony trying not to coax buyers into getting this?
It's expensive but if the technology is good it will probably filter down to lower priced products.
I also feel the same way, that ENGADGET kisses some major ass to apple.
Soon as any apple news is out engadget jumps on and try to make it big.
Im going to never come back to this site ever again and I hope other should feel the same way that this BLOG is a huge scam.
Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. :) Goodbye. :) Bye! :)
Newsflash: Nobody cares if you come to this blog or not. Engadget will still make money and the rest of us will still get to read great gadget-related journalism, be it Apple-related or otherwise.
Agreed. Engadget writes about the most compelling stories in today's gadget-oriented world, and Apple isndeveloping compelling products. However biased you are in favor or against Apple, their sales figures and media coverage don't lie - Apple is making note-worthy products.
