NEC kicks out 26-inch EA261WM LCD monitor with WUXGA resolution
While Lenovo saw fit to stuff 1,920 x 1,200 pixels into a 22-inch panel, NEC is giving users a little more real estate to work with in its 26-inch EA261WM. The WUXGA LCD monitor is the first member of the newly launched MultiSync Enterprise Advanced (EA) Series and includes a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 5-millisecond response time, 92% color gamut, 4-port USB hub, 4-way adjustable stand and on-screen display controls in the bezel. Furthermore, you'll find down-firing speakers with a headphone jack, a DVI-D input, cable management cover and an ECO mode for giving Mother Earth (and your power bill) a break. It'll be available this August with a three-year warranty for $679.99.

thats a damn good deal- just wish the camera taking the picture of it was as clear as the screen itself

compare this to a dell Ultrasharp at 22 inches and 1680x1050 for about the same price
mmm im gettin this
Alex @ Jun 18th 2008 10:29AM
$679?!?!?!
I want one.
Good_Bytes @ Jun 18th 2008 1:07PM
only one?!?
Dual screen me!
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 18th 2008 11:29PM
Dude, don't make a bad mistake. This monitor supports only DVI-D, not DVI-I, and it has no HDCP which means no support for Blu-ray, HD-DVD, or even upscaled DVD (yes, upscaling DVD players still require that the digital-receiving display be HDCP-compliant even for playing unprotected/bootleg DVDs, otherwise you'll be forced to use analog, and not all upscaling DVD players allow 720p or even 1080i thru analog component).
z0phi3l @ Jun 18th 2008 10:32AM
Just migh put off replacing my 20" wide screen for one of these, it's only like $100 more than the 24" I was checking out
From my Cube @ Jun 18th 2008 10:32AM
this is the swiss army knife of monitors for that price point!
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 18th 2008 11:31PM
Swiss Army knife my bottom. This has no HDCP support, which means you won't be able to play your Blu-rays, HD-DVDs, or even your upscaled DVDs via its DVI-D [not equal to DVI-I which is HDMI-video-compatible] input.
ethana2 @ Jun 18th 2008 10:33AM
Reminding us of the importance of resolution independence...
Man, that is insane.
MioTheGreat @ Sep 3rd 2008 12:35AM
Because of its low dot-pitch, right?
1920x1200 at 26" is incredibly underwhelming these days.
I mean, my previous 15.4" laptop had 1920x1200....
e2_98 @ Jun 18th 2008 10:34AM
AGGGH! my eyes, the goggles they do nothing!
-Tj- @ Jun 18th 2008 11:38AM
Goggles? All I see is a cyan-colored screen with a purple frog on it. Wait a minute...
Alan Partridge @ Jun 18th 2008 10:47AM
How did we sell monitors before frogs?
Alex Terry @ Jun 18th 2008 10:54AM
you have brightened up my day! lol wofl etc.
Nick Catalano @ Jun 18th 2008 10:55AM
That is a great price for what you get...
Abuzar @ Jun 18th 2008 11:07AM
Wait my Dell 24inch has that same resolution.
I'm guessing the quality on these is better than the non Ultrasharp Dells?
bjorn_ahlm @ Jun 18th 2008 11:07AM
I assume they'd boast about it if this was an S-IPS monitor, so it's most likely a crappy TN.
bob @ Jun 18th 2008 11:13AM
that plus the res of a 23" display stretched on a 26"
bjorn_ahlm @ Jun 18th 2008 11:21AM
http://www.necdisplay.com/Products/Product/?product=b2824707-0c2c-4c7a-83e7-c4dfb2e4b742
It's a TN panel.
Philippe @ Jun 18th 2008 11:24AM
Mmm.. helloooo? Bigger screen at same resolution doesn't mean more screen real estate, just fatter dots.
Georgi @ Jun 18th 2008 11:43AM
Why is this news? You can get a ViewSonic TN with same stretched resolution for $450...

helloUser @ Jun 18th 2008 12:39PM
I bought my LG 246WP, a 24" P-MVA monitor for $350.
These TN displays are a joke. Charging 600 bucks + on a technology thats CHEAP, is a crime.
ingus @ Jun 18th 2008 12:04PM
huh? where's the HDMI port(s)?
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 18th 2008 11:25PM
Sorry, no HDMI support. They said DVI-D, which means there is no HDCP support and thus no support for playing Blu-rays, HD-DVDs, or even upscaled DVDs via DVI/HDMI (as upscaling DVD players still require HDCP-compliant displays even to play DVDs even though DVDs have no AACS code). If they said instead DVI-I, then your workaround would be a HDMI-to-DVI-I adapter (but that will only give you video and not audio). So don't jump into the bandwagon and buy this until you're badly sure about its limitations.
disciple83 @ Jun 18th 2008 2:26PM
I'm still rockin' a NEC LCD1760vBK from like 7 years ago. I never pushed the brightness too high cuz I keep my workroom fairly dark, so it should still have all the brightness left in it. And Best of all, still not a single dead pixel after 7 years. Regardless of type of panel it is, TN or whatever, if this new 26" has a quality standard remotely like my 17" panel, I'm all over this.
Don @ Jun 18th 2008 3:02PM
My eyes are still burning and all I see are red dots
crispy @ Jun 18th 2008 4:34PM
I just did a quick search for the LG monitor that helloUser spoke about, and I can't find it. No use talking about a monitor that is not currently for sale.
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 18th 2008 11:35PM
Fools, don't waste your money on this non-HDCP-compliant screen! Better buy a new Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP, it has DVI-I (MUCH better than DVI-D) input which is compatible with HDMI (video only) via a HDMI-to-DVI-I adapter and IS HDCP-compliant (and Blu-ray/HD-DVD/upscaled-DVD-friendly). Or wait for the Dell 2409 which I think will support native HDMI and dual-DVI-I
COM-4 @ Jun 19th 2008 7:20PM
You sir are a MORON! First of all it DOES have HDCP, just visit NEC's site where it's listed in black and white.
Second, DVI-I is not MUCH better than DVI-D, besides what MORON would want to use an analog signal with this awesome 26" HD display???
Third, why would you care about feeding HDMI audio to this display's tiny little speakers??? Hello?? I don't know about you but if I bought this display I would feed my SPDIF or TOSLINK from my computer to a receiver hooked up to nice speakers. THAT is where digital sound would make a difference. Sh*t I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between analog/digital audio from this display's built-in speakers even if you had DOG EARS!
Third this display can also pivot! Can the DELL pivot to portrait?
Finally DELL SUCKS!!! My grandma uses one and she also shops at Walmart!!!

First of all it DOES have HDCP, just visit NEC's site where it's listed in the specifications.
Second, DVI-I is not MUCH better than DVI-D. You only need DVI-I if you need a analog option and if you do just use the VGA connector...DUH. Also what MORON would want to use an analog signal with this awesome 26" HD display anyway???
Third, why would you care about feeding HDMI audio to this display's
tiny little speakers even if you could??? Hello?? I don't know about you but if I bought this display I would feed my SPDIF or TOSLINK from my computer to a receiver hooked up to REAL speakers. THAT is where digital sound would make a difference. Sh*t I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between analog/digital audio from this display's built-in
speakers even if you had DOG EARS!

I'm sorry Mr. Leroy but your rhetoric is incoherent. It makes no sense at all.
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 19th 2008 7:48PM
YES MORON. Dells can pivot to portrait, unless you'ven't found yet that hidden button behind the stand to stretch the display up so it can later pivot clockwise. Unless you're turning it counterclockwise which is the wrong way.
Leroy Vargas @ Jun 19th 2008 7:51PM
My rhetoric isn't incoherent. Dells are so far the best displays I've ever seen for the price tag. That's why almost all non-Mac-fanboy schools use Dell displays. Plus you get side USB ports and memory-card readers; does NEC provide them?
BTW, DVI-I is digital not analog. And every techie/nerd knows that only DVI-I allows HDCP, DVI-D doesn't. That's why there aren't HDMI-to-DVI-D adapters nor vice-versa; only HDMI-to-DVI-I and vice-versa.
COM-4 @ Jun 19th 2008 11:09PM
This NEC has USB ports. Card Reader? WTF cares? I have a card reader on my PC. Why the hell would I need yet ANOTHER card reader??? Unless I wanted to brag about having a gazillion USB ports. I already have 10 USB ports straight from the motherboard.
"BTW, DVI-I is digital not analog."
Again evidence that you are an utter complete DUMBASS!!! DVI-I can take a digital OR analog signal you dipshit! Look it up you MORON!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
DVI-A Analog
DVI-I Analoy OR Digital
DVI-D Digital
"And every techie/nerd knows that only DVI-I allows HDCP, DVI-D doesn't. That's why there aren't HDMI-to-DVI-D adapters nor vice-versa; only HDMI-to-DVI-I and vice-versa"
LMAO!!! The reason why you don't see specific HDMI->DVI-D adapters is because you could use HDMI->DVI-I adapters/cables with DVI-D displays since DVI-I can go analog OR digital.
So tell me genious, why is DVI-I sooooo much better than DVI-D again??? Are you telling me NEC is lying when they say their monitor is HDCP compliant??? Are you telling me HP is lying to me because they said my HP w2207 DVI-D only panel is HDCP compliantr? You do realize that I'm typing this on my PC that has HDMI output to my HPw2207 using a HDMI->DVI cable right?
Do some research before speaking out of your @SS!
