Sharp's 108-inch LB-1085 LCD HDTV comes Stateside in September
Sharp's biggest announcement at InfoComm isn't the plethora of new projectors and LCD monitors. No, dear friends, it's the proclamation that its 108-inch LB-1085 1080p display will soon be available right here in the US of A. Sharp's smart enough to not let out a US price just yet, but our handy Japanese currency conversion calculation puts it somewhere around $100,000. Chump change, right?

Anybody want a peanut?
bohsocks @ Jun 18th 2008 12:20PM
You'll get highly ranked (if not highest) for referencing a joke that was made in the story just a few days ago when they talked about this TV being released in Japan.
Oh well, much of this readership is gung-ho about recycling as it is. :)
GreezyG @ Jun 18th 2008 12:27PM
Ah I didn't see that story. Thats just his greatest line ever.

jake @ Jun 18th 2008 12:13PM
hmmm, a gallon of gas or this tv,.... ill go with the gas
Low Ranked @ Jun 18th 2008 12:45PM
For $100,000 you would only get about a half a gallon of gas.
Dave @ Jun 18th 2008 12:19PM
I'm just wondering if it will have VESA-Compliant mounts, that's the part I'm real iffy about...that and the $100k price tag...
Conor Maher @ Jun 18th 2008 4:43PM
VESA mounts?
You're joking right? No VESA mount can support the weight of Andre the Giant....
Jhongerkong @ Jun 18th 2008 12:26PM
Well, you could whore yourself to 10000 fat chicks for $10, or 1000 REALLY fat chicks for $100.
Boarderwoot @ Jun 18th 2008 12:27PM
I'd like to think that for 100 grand they could demonstrate this showing something else besides a black and white circus freak. Oh and throw in Asian Reporter Trisha Takanowa for a scale reference.
mrfreeze @ Jun 18th 2008 12:57PM
Whoa there, that is Andre the Giant in Princess Bride, If that were the screen saver I'd buy it right now.
Josh L @ Jun 18th 2008 2:13PM
Insulting Andre the Giant = fail.
GTFO.
kal326 @ Jun 18th 2008 12:44PM
Or I could get 4 65" 1080p displays and spend part of the $68,000 remaining to figure out how to link them all together as one big massive screen. That or maybe just get one 65" screen for $8,000 as that would be large enough and figure out something else to do with the remaining $92,000
Low Ranked @ Jun 18th 2008 12:47PM
With $92,000 you could buy the remaining 43 inches.
Rainier @ Jun 18th 2008 12:58PM
I'm going to need another pair of eyes.

A little known fact:
Andre the Giant's fro is actually slightly stronger than Chuck Norris' beard.
senyl @ Jun 18th 2008 1:14PM
Are you sure? I didn't think that was possible. I think Andre is romancing the women on the other side.
Alex @ Jun 18th 2008 1:17PM
That's perfect for the walk in closet.
MikeWard1701 @ Jun 18th 2008 1:40PM
For that price I'd expect Andre the Giant too :P
Wolfticket @ Jun 18th 2008 2:34PM
Andre the Giant is dead. And even if was alive you couldn't have him; He was not an animal. He was a human being. He was a man.
Low Ranked @ Jun 18th 2008 3:22PM
He was not a man. He was the man.
Suburbancowboy @ Jun 18th 2008 2:09PM
For a fourth of the price of this screen, and with much less potential headache down the road, and a much much easier delivery and installation, you could get an amazing projector and screen, and lighting control for the room.
sinai @ Jun 18th 2008 2:55PM
good night, sweet prince.

The Angry Intern @ Jun 18th 2008 3:58PM
is it called LB-1085 because that's how much it weighs?
RollingRock @ Jun 21st 2008 10:00AM
Hmmm.... for $100,000 I sure hope it's available in color.
boredwell @ Jun 21st 2008 6:21PM
That 108 will soon be super sized. Bigger may be better but it's not always the BEST.
Kent @ Jun 21st 2008 7:53PM
I visited Sharp Corporation several years near Kyoto where they manufacture HD screens. I haven't kept up with their production statistics, but at the time for every 100 screens they made, only 1 was good enough to market. Today, it probably improved on quality and manufacturing processes but based on the price of this 108" screen tells me that they still have a problem but to a lesser degree. Larger the screen, the more difficult it is to get a passable product out the door.
