NVIDIA busts out GeForce 9800 GTX+ based on 55nm tech
You didn't think NVIDIA would sit back and let AMD get all big-headed about their 4800 series cards, did you? Of course not. NVIDIA's new GeForce 9800 GTX+, hot on the heels of the GeForce 9800 GTX, bumps some specs with the help of its new, more efficient 55nm tech. The results include a 738 MHz core, 1836 MHz shader clock, 512MB GDDR3 memory (1000MHz), and 2- and 3-way SLI support. If we have to compare those specs to the stock card's, well, you're just not a GPU freak like some of us. Look for it in July for $229 retail.

What is a "tot he"? I kid!
Ohhh, I'm sorry that the people who give you all this information made a tincy mistake...
Then again, your an idiot.
We all make mistakes, I make mistakes in half the comments i make. Doesn't make me an idiot though :) What part of "I kid" do you not understand? You hurt my feelings :(
By the way "The Apple", its "you're". This time, i do not kid.
I think what rock99rock is trying to say is:
"Mee-mee-mee mee-mee mee!"
rock99rock, it's also 'it's', and your 'i' should be capitalized. No kidding.
How about you're all a bunch of assclowns?
Fighting on the Internet over a bunch of apostrophes? If Al Gore had invented the Internet, and was dead, he'd be rolling over in his grave.
Is that a highEST ranked? When did that make a comeback? Awesome.
Is that a highEST ranked? When did that make a comeback? Awesome.
Youz guy's R fun :D
...I guess I'm not a freak like you.
$229, not bad.
my thoughts exactly. bravo, nvidia.
Wait, $229 isn't a mistake? Holy crap, isn't that an amazing deal?
Only $50 more than my 8800GT... I might actually return my brand new 8800GT to buy it.
dang.... i paid $195 for my 8800 GT. ah well. that's the way things go.
+ now, as if we didn't already have to remember enough graphic card designators already.
I wish they added + to the 8800GTS 512MB, that would have made sense.
My 8800 GT will last me until whatever next generation card nvidia releases in 09
They need to start naming cards so average consumers understand whats going on...such as 9800 standard 9800 gaming and 9800 pro
the way its headed the next card out will be the 9800AFAIK+wtfbbq edition
All NVidia cards are BBQ edition, but the grill is sold separately.
You can't name cards that way, the reason they do not do this is because of the fact that the card will eventually be obsolete in a few years. Lets say you bought the "ATI Radeon 9800 Gaming Pro Card" or "Nvidia Geforce 4 MX Gaming PRO! Series" today....not so much a gaming card. Simple reason why they don't. It would confuse the consumer even more and get mad at nvidia. As to this card? Nothing more than a slight overclock with a little better chip architecture... Nothing to fancy by the specs...I think people should keep an eye out for a fair priced GTX 280 or 260....
Obsolescence in a few *years*? Try a few months, if not weeks.
@dziban303
Well its all how you look at it truthfully. If you buy a incredibly high end card, it could last you much longer, close to a year. Ive had my 8800 GTX for about a year, and with the OBVIOUS exception of crisis, it can max out all of the latest games still*....
I don't know anyone who buys a video card for anything else other than gaming or some extreme media usage. Oh yeah, and GeForce 9800 ROFLCOPTER BBQ XXX LOL OC Limited Edition sounds so much better than "Standard".
Welcome the new midrange, not really much of a suprise after the 8800GT refresh. Granted a little more confusing with the + at the end. I think the first change up made more sense. 8800GTX and 8800GTS are the old models, 8800GT is the new model. Last time the lost a letter, this time they add a symbol, crazyness!
Well, later the GTSs were re-furbished and you had GTS 320 < GTS 640 < GTS 512 < GTS 1024 (not by much).
Craziness never left town!
I'm waiting for GTX 280+4i...
Yeah, they need serious help with their naming schemes. They are just flat out stupid. I couldn't believe it when they had two different 8800 GTS series with identical names and very different specs.
Question for all the PC gamers:
How long would this card last you until your next upgrade if you bought this today?
Answer: Just as long as the next card came along.
Unlike you console-nutters, we like to have the latest and greatest tech inside our computers--instead of basically waiting and waiting until $oni-nenten-$oft wants to release a new console for Umpteen-bajillion dollars and force us to re-buy all of our games on a new Purple-HD-Rayzorz disc.
So yes, while we spend more because of all the upgrades--we at least have the ability to play all of our older games on one single machine.
And yes. I can play all of my games that I own on my computer. By using a combination of DOSBox and VirtualPC I can play any game from DOS to WinXP and anywhere in between.
Pretty subjective question, but for me.
1 to 1.5 years
probably about 2 years then it will be rotated down to the older machine when i get the next one so you could concider that another 2 years so 4 total
i got my 3870 barely 6 months ago... i guess the going rate is 6 months till the next upgrade! (or less becoz of the ati vs nvidia wars) :P i'll just wait till xmas before i upgrade my V.C. again.
that is one hot case!
hope it doesnt run hot......
and $229 is actually pretty good for a card like this- thanks NVIDIA!
ATI vs NVIDIA
round 1
fight!
actually that last part was kinda stupid...
this is like round 50
but whatever?!?!

I don't expect the GTX 260 to get much attention with this offering close performance with a much lower price. But what I don't understand is why Nvidia made the GTX 280/260 on 65nm but a few weeks later releases a 55nm card thats not as good as the high end cards.
thats because its a gimmick done in desperation, nvidia and intel scratch the market with the same dirty long nails.
The crysis demo- they achieved massive fps lead by disabling the water effect it sold a lot of fatty tuna. They had the stalker developers remove game features so their cards wouldnt underperform. Amd are just pathethic tho, i havent been intrested in gfx tech since the release of the 8800gt if i owned one of these i would be laughing so hard i would have actually have skidmarks. Im going to buy a 3870x2 :) the only good thing to come out of all this rubbish immature badly cooled technology is that the mature cards will get lower priced and excepting crysis will slice current games for even less.
They should have "2 Wycked" painted on this too.
Now we just need some good PC games to make use of its power. Crysis doesn't fall into that category.
ah ****!
and i just got the 9800gtx a month ago for $300.
what a load of bollocks.
Going for 2x AMD 4850 instead!
Whats awesome about all of this is that the G92 8800GT is dirt cheap now! Finally, non-hardcore gamers can run some insane graphics, and I can't wait to mess with CUDA
