PSP firmware 4.00 out, PS3 2.40 in-game XMB and trophies confirmed

Sony's firmware development for its game consoles is bearing fruit on two fronts today. First, the PSP firmware 4.00 network update is up and dancing for your XMB Googling pleasure. Next, and more importantly, Sony has confirmed in-game XMB and trophies in PS3 firmware 2.40 -- details promised shortly. Tap tap tap... ok, not that shortly.

I'm thinking 2.4 pushes PS3 past 360 in every aspect now. Now the only reason to have a 360 are those exclusives you cant get on PS3 or PC.

...except that there's a lot of them. Not to mention that non-exclusives look and play better (or at least the same) on Xbox360 9 out of 10 times. I played close to 30 games on Xbox360. Compared to maybe 6 on PS3.

Xbox360 wins hands down this generation so far as I'm concerned.

Now if you're talking OVERALL utility of the console and not "just" games, then things are a bit different.

As the owner of both a PS3 and 360 and PSP I must say this is pretty dissapointing while these are cool features, they really dont deserve a whole new firmware update. These should be the extras that come with the firmware there should be some major updates like say...Home? But hey its something at least they put out a recent update unlike some companies *cough* Microsoft *cough*

I installed the update on my PSP and you get a magnifying glass to do internet searches using Google. It wouldn't be so bad, but I can't stand to input text on a PSP. It's such an awkward system for typing and internet browsing and slow as molasses loading pages even over a broadband connection. You can't tell how much of the page is being completed. Except for that little circle in the lower right hand corner, you can hardly tell if the page has just stalled while loading.

The iPhone is a better game player than the PSP is an internet browser. Not even sure why Sony bothered with adding a browser. Browsing ability is next to useless. Internet radio isn't too bad. It works decently enough over WiFi.

I like my PSP for watching videos, games and listening to music, so for it's cost, it does have it's good points.

Sounds like a good update comming up. What is trophies supposed to do. Do you think it will accessed in the game or in the main menu. And what do get trophies for? completing games?
Is there going to be more that one trophy per game?
And how are you supposed to show it with your friends?
Is it just a PS3 version of achievements?

and for the list of questions...

Trophies will be given for accomplishments in games and beating the games...basically the achievements system for the XBox360.

There WILL be more than one trophy per game...there really wouldn't be a point to them otherwise.

As of now, I am unaware of a "trophy case" to show them off to your friends with this update, but HOME is still in the works, and when that is released, you will have a virtual world to show off your gaming prowess.
