ASUS ARES CG6155 gaming PC: 4.0GHz QX9650, GeForce GTX280, bragging rights
What's that, Acer? Your vicious Predator not feel so dominant now? ASUS just dropped a bombshell with the official release of the ARES CG6150 that first surfaced at CeBIT, and for gamers who accept nothing less than cutting edge, this is your rig. From the top, we've got an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (overclockable to 4.0GHz) processor, NVIDIA's nForce 790i Ultra SLI chipset, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 3-way SLI setup with GeForce GTX280s, up to 4TB of HDD space, a Blu-ray optical drive, twin gigabit Ethernet jacks, two power supplies and a custom liquid cooling arrangement. ASUS is being tight-lipped (as usual) with pricing / release information, but let's just assume you'll need a serious stack of Benjamins to even sniff this beast.

I just don't get these systems. I am a huge PC gamer. I can put together a killer machine that I can game on for 3-4 years for $1500...$1000 if I recycle some parts. You must have a pile of discretionary income to spend that much. That budget will handle my PC needs for the next 20 years.
I also do not get these cases. When I build a gaming system, I get a nondescript case. My last two cases have been plain black shuttle cubes. The current cube has a quad core Q6600 (G0), 512Mb 8800GT, 4GB RAM, and about a TB of storage. It runs COD4 like the devil at 1680 X 1050...and performs other tasks that better support multi-threading like the wind. Guess what? It doesn't need neon or flames on the side of the case to do it. What sort of 14 year-old boy mentality wants a case that looks like that?
Different strokes I guess...but I wouldn't put that thing in my house if you gave it to me.
Shit! Its too late, I just shipped one directly to your doorstep for delivery by next Tuesday.

I half agree with you on the case. I personally think the Alienware cases and ones like this are ugly as hell. But when I build a custom system I like a little bit of style to it to make it stand out from just another PC from Dell/HP/Acer/etc. Even if that just means a window on the side and an led after-market fan so i can see the inside of my case and a door. (also practical for figuring out where the hell that grinding noise is coming from lol)
And kind of reverse on that:
My friend has a nice case with lights on it and a clear side with a fan. All the nice flashy stuff.
But whats in it?
A Dell Dimension. Pentium 3, 750Mhz, nVidia Fx5200 and 256 Mb of ram.
Asus may have made an Alienware rip-off here, but after having every major computer company build an Eee copy, I think we can let this one slide...
I think that you will have to upgrade 3 times before you use up all those TB.. lol its interesting where technology is headed...
That's not true...My system is just over a year old and It started with 1.2TB, I added a couple HDs and I now have 2.3TB and I have a total of only about 20GB free...it's not hard to fill 4TB of HD space, especially if you have fibre optic internet.
that's a lot of porn you got yourself there...
@schmitty338
Well not all of us have fibre optic internet connections. I get a measly 800KB/s max download speed so indeed, I wouldn't need the space.
Lucky for some though, the UK seems to suck more and more...
Time to move I think.
AAGH CYLONS!
@ Scuba Steve
I totally agree, I think this really is for the absolute hard-core, the kind of people you probably find at conventions ......
Wow that it a seriously powerful looking PC.
Both literally and metaphorically.
The Ares is only in order production. Meaning that when you order one, they start building it. This thing goes up for 6,700 USD. Only sold in Taiwan currently, I haven't heard of anywhere else you can buy it. Anyone know the release date for the US?
