BenQ intros 21.5-inch Full HD E2200HDA LCD monitor
Heads-up, we've got another world's first coming from the labs at BenQ. The E2200HDA claims to be this planet's very first 21.5-inch 1080p Full HD LCD monitor, and given that odd panel size, we don't doubt it one bit. Just to reiterate, this one boasts a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution along with a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 5-millisecond response time, HDMI / DVI / VGA inputs, integrated speakers and a headphone jack. BenQ's keeping quiet on pricing, but we are told to expect two additional E Series displays (including a 24-incher) later this year. As for this one, look for it to land in China and "select countries in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America" in Q3. Yes, North America just got snubbed -- intensely.

I hate it when companies use "dynamic contrast ratio", rather misleading don't you think?
Low Ranked @ Jun 20th 2008 2:20PM
Divide the DCR by half and you have a more realistic contrast ratio.
;)
Richard Lai @ Jun 20th 2008 3:43PM
@Low Ranked: divide by half = multiply by 2
Blanka @ Jun 20th 2008 5:32PM
1:700-1:1300 is a more realistic static ratio. Above 1:1000 is top notch for LCD.
Dynamic is only nice when it is surrounding-dynamic (using an ambient light sensor), and not signal-dynamic as many screens offer (when the black screen at the end of a movie prior to the titles turns suddenly into "not quite black" when the first bright white text appears).
Danakin @ Jun 20th 2008 1:00PM
Very cool, but I can't get it...no North America :(
I am all for integrated speakers, as long as they are High Quality...most are junk.
Josh Warner @ Jun 20th 2008 11:45PM
Been waiting for this resolution to filter down into less-than-24-inch size screens. Also intensely disappointed by the failure to release in N. America; if it was decently priced (and the color could be calibrated very close to true) I'd have one on my desk.
I'm not the only one who needs screen real estate but has limited physical space, either. This is a product that needs to get to N. America, stat.

5ms?! pffft. NEXT!
GenBanks @ Jun 20th 2008 2:55PM
5ms would be fine with me if it isn't a TN
Dyranios @ Jun 20th 2008 1:06PM
You think 1,920 x 1,080 would be ok to read on a screen size smaller than 24" ? Don't want scrawny text and what not .
Richard Lai @ Jun 20th 2008 1:18PM
Firefox: View -> Zoom -> Zoom In
IE7: Page -> Zoom -> Zoom In
Or just do this:
Windows: Control Panel -> Display -> Setting -> Advanced -> General -> DPI setting -> large size
phanbouy @ Jun 20th 2008 1:21PM
dude... maybe he's using BeOS.
Dyranios @ Jun 20th 2008 1:54PM
I use OS X, whilst I can make text bigger in a webbrowser there isn't a way to increase the DPI like on Windows XP (how about that). 99% of the text I read is in a web browser anyway so it should be ok!
z0phi3l @ Jun 20th 2008 4:53PM
My 17" laptop handles 1920X1080 just fine, can't see why this one won't

I think I'd rather have one of the many available 1920x1200 monitors. Cheaper, more pixels...
phanbouy @ Jun 20th 2008 1:15PM
WOW A MONITOR!!11!
Severian @ Jun 20th 2008 1:33PM
Two, please, stat!
This is exactly the kind of monitor I've been looking for. There are even smaller 1920x1200 panels available for laptops, and I've been wanting something like this for a long time.
My 28" Viewsonic was a fat-ass mistake (fat-ass pixels). I like my pixels tiny for the crispiest text. Also, gaming on a desktop 28" monitor is crappy -- too much head turning (though it would probably be fine at about 1.5 to 2 meters were I not nearsighted).
schmitty338 @ Jun 20th 2008 2:29PM
I would have to disagree with the gaming comment...just last week I got a 32" Sharp Aquos 1080P that I plopped on my desk and play games at 1080P sitting only about 1-2 feet away and it's amazing..very immersive.
Just IMHO.

I wonder who is making the panel for “the labs at Ben-Q”? Surely it will turn up on our continent eventually in some other product, probably a TV.
Yea, I called you Shirley...
franzbonus @ Jun 20th 2008 1:39PM
That's a very nice and well built monitor. Even LG hasn't released in a while something as aesthetically refreshing as this baby.
Thx BenQ!
GenBanks @ Jun 20th 2008 2:58PM
BenQ are doing a good job for innovative monitor design. Check out the V2400W ... I want :D
Oinquer @ Jun 20th 2008 1:45PM
10000:1 contrast.....rightttttttttttttt
rather misleading

"North America just got snubbed"
Here's a theory:
North America got snubbed again because (a) the USA is the biggest market in North America + (b) the US economy is in the shitter + (c) the value of the US dollar has taken a huge dump in the past year.
Have a nice day.
Corwin @ Jun 20th 2008 2:50PM
Yet our $13.8 trillion dollar GDP still makes us the world's largest national economy (third highest GDP per capita)... and with a higher average standard of living and massive tech saavy youth, somehow I think we can afford a monitor.
hemmy @ Jun 20th 2008 3:16PM
@Corwin
That 13+ trillion GDP means nothing when you consider our 9 trillion dollar debt, making us the largest debtor nation in the world.
Andrew @ Jun 21st 2008 6:23AM
@corwin
The combined economy of the EU is larger than the US...
Corwin @ Jun 21st 2008 12:28PM
@hemmy:
Actually, dig deeper. The American media (and teachers, it seems) would love you to believe such things. Upon research, however, you will find our debt to GDP ratio is far better than most of the world's nations.
@Andrew:
I agree. The economy of 48 countries far surpases that of the singular United States.
Down @ Jun 20th 2008 2:25PM
BenQ is such a shit name.
z0phi3l @ Jun 20th 2008 4:57PM
They still make great monitors for the price
Corwin @ Jun 20th 2008 2:52PM
Sorry:
"One of the highest average standards of living..."
Grammar, grammar, grammar........
Andrew @ Jun 21st 2008 6:39AM
The problem being of course that the average is nothing but an average... Your shrinking middle class is suffering a under range of economic woes (some worse than others) that have not had the same effect in say Europe. We had no sub prime market collapse and the serious fall out was largely limited to the US.
Otherwise I think you would agree the US and Europe are on pretty much the same level in terms of living standards. But I should point out that the top rated countries have been mostly European (Iceland, Norway) and then Canada followed by the US.
The Euro being so strong has offset some price rises and the higher value means higher profits for the sellers. And we have always had higher fuel prices than the US so our consumers and their cars are better adjusted to the current price on oil. All of this has an impact on the purchasing power of the average consumer.
In other words Europeans feel safer in their jobs/houses, still have the money to spend and a more attractive currency.

Probably using the new AU Optronics panel :

Just wait, and some other monitor brand will bring it to US.
Vivek @ Aug 18th 2008 4:17AM
So looking forward to this one... a good monitor which will let me play ps3 games in true HD (HDMI port!) and will also act as a good monitor for my desktop too! Heard it's gonna cost about INR 22,500 ~ USD 550. Only drawback is that the speakers will definitely be junk. They should have just left that out and charged that much less for the monitor!
