OpenStomp Coyote-1 open-source guitar processor in development
There've been a couple attempts to get an open-source guitar processor project off the ground Pandora GP2X-style, but we haven't seen much in the way of progress until now, with the OpenStomp Coyote-1 project. It's still in the prototype phase, but it looks well thought-out, with a Parallax Propeller 8-core processor running at 80MHz at its heart that can even generate basic video, 44kHz 24-bit sampler, two foot switches, and a two-line LCD screen for feedback. The main dev, Eric Moyer, says he wants the pedal to serve as an "audio sandbox" with totally open-source software and fully documented hardware, and we've got say we're pretty intrigued by the idea -- we'll be watching this one closely.

that's all nice and stuff, but can you wear it... as a hat?
Technically speaking "ParaLax" is a a laxative that is above what a normal one is. Think of it as a paranormal experience that will make you shit yourself silly.
Haha the missing t in "attempts" makes the "Plane-arium" post even funnier
This is awesome. I've always wanted to mess with my own sounds, this takes it to another level. Customization FTW!
Rock On!
This an open source version of one of those line6 pod thingys?
This an open source version of one of those line6 pod thingys?
This is a line6 pod thingy on crack with the whole world ready to make
it cooler and cooler. I work in professional recording studios,i record a lot of guitar and this sounds like one of the gadgets thats gonna make it more fun.
Wish i was cluey enough to write patches for this thing.
hooray!
This is awesome.
44Khz? Could you up that to 96Khz?
good question. heck, with that many cores it should be able to do 192! i always like to rocord my stuff at a higher res, then dumb it down after. pulling a 192/24 down to 44.1/16 is way smoother than the other way.
awesome... simply awesome. I can't wait
Hallelujah. I'm sick of trying to get proprietary shit working in ubuntu. Freaking Line6 refuses to do anything to support the nix.
As much as I really want to like things like this, being kicked in the nuts by digital effects has gotten old. I've spent so much money over the years on digital gadgets, only to find myself going to back to analog. Give me a half dozen pedals and a tube amp over some dsp gizmo any day. I'm not saying that it can't possibly sound good, since it's so subjective. However, the fact that it will be open source and fully documented is fantastic.
