In Soviet Russia, Motorola's MOTOZINE ZN5 reviews you
In the most thorough examination you can expect this side of mobile-review, SMAPE just put text to phosphor and slapped out a nearly 9,000 word review of Motorola's new 5 megapixel MOTOZINE ZN5 with Xenon flash. They've also pitted it head-to-head with Nokia's own 5 megapixel N82 for a good ol' fashioned photo shootout. While the ZN5 is a smidge thinner, features a dedicated image processing unit for quickness, and optionally stores images in lossless TIFF format for a lower price than the N82, there's one small catch: the N82 (and K850 for that matter) has already been on sale for more than half a year. Nevertheless, as the first model of the new MOTOZINE series, the ZN5 hints at the possibility of a promising future. Assuming of course Moto's phone division lives to see the day.
Update: Speaking of mobile-review, they just posted their detailed thoughts. The following quote pretty much sums it up, "It's no RAZR of our time. It's just a decent, well-rounded phone."

Looks ugly!
Shinigami @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:50AM
Engadged news name really looks ugly this time.
I'm from Ukraine, happy to say there is no soviet Russia any more! So please stop with the jokes, they are annoying to us Ukrainians. Same as "all Americans are stupid" jokes are annoying to Americans.
Thanks.
Yeah, I know Tom was saying Motorola looks ugly. And I agree xD
Thomas Ricker @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:57AM
No offense intended Shinigami. But with the "CCCP" purposely photographed in the review photos, how could I resist the tired, Internet meme!? They were begging to be ridiculed.

Personally I thought the article's title was funny. I love a little cliched internet meme now and then, and he's right, it does kinda fit. I love the Ukraine though, holler.
OneLove @ Jun 23rd 2008 9:07AM
I for one welcome our non existent soviet russian overlords. (I thought it was funny)
John @ Jun 23rd 2008 12:08PM
That's an old Yakov Smirnoff joke, not an internet meme.
Wormbolt @ Jun 23rd 2008 12:48PM

Ignatius @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:40AM
Eh, more or less.
Pdexter @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:44AM
All N series phones got WiFi. ZN5 got flash, right? not led?
CarrotAndStick @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:56AM
Does the Nokia model have WiFi as the Moto one does?
If not, then the Moto phone has the Nokia, beat.
However, Nokia's Carl-Zeiss optics might pull the phone ahead of Moto, too.
Shinigami @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:57AM
1. They both use Carl-Zeiss optics.
2. They both have Wi-Fi.
Rich @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:14AM
The N82 has WiFi. And HSDPA. And GPS. And runs Symbian. *etc*
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:57AM
In Soviet Russia Camera Phone watches you.
Homeboy @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:20AM
Well isn't that what the purpose of a camera phone is here in the western world too?
In Soviet Russia cell phone install 5 megapixel camera on you!
I LOVE THE CAPS LOCK KEY @ Jun 24th 2008 12:58AM
@Homeboy
In Soviet Russia, bad humor slaps you.

And that was for CarrotAndStick.

"Speaking of mobile-review, they just posted their detailed thoughts"
Isn't that the meaning of a review? They posted facts and summed it all up with their own opinion. My opinion is the same by the way - its no revolutionary phone, but its nice to see Motorola is back in the phone game with a decent product.
Pdexter @ Jun 23rd 2008 7:56AM
Not bad at all just a bit late to the game as like the review said N82 is already the best seller and been out for a 1/2 year and when this is out there will be better options available from competition already.
I would take ZN5 over my black N82 if it had some more power on that OS and that's it for me if i wanted feature phone i would take this over k850i any day.
Great to see some actually good high end phones from Moto.
Pdexter @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:10AM
Actually just discovered it's missing 3G, so never mind.
mark.b @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:02AM
i want a 5MP on my iphone3G!!!!
Maestro @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:15AM
If the title of this article were a comment it would be ranked right down there with such classics as "First" or "Will it blend" or even "But can it play doom?"

Megan Boris-
What cell phone has the best camera?

...in Soviet Russia apple iphone buys you!
BlackCoffeeNoSugar @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:52AM
Motorola and Kodak? Two dying companies joined force.
Anthony @ Jun 23rd 2008 10:27AM
Both of which I'd like to see coming back. As the current owner of a N95 8gb & an N82 purely for photo purposes I'm keen on any new advances (the dedicated photo processor looks like one to me) so I'll surely take a look.
Price will likely be competitive as well- interface looks questionable.
Sirius @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:57AM
Can we ban ocean? I'm an Apple fan (tho not quite fanboy) and *I'm* tired of all his comments... sarcastic or not..
lowdef @ Jun 23rd 2008 10:30AM
best. headline. ever.
