JVC rolls out NX-PN7 dual iPod docking station

JVC was showing off its NX-PN7 dual iPod dock way back at a CES at the beginning of this year, but it looks like it's just now gotten its act together and finally pushed the thing out the door. It doesn't seem like much has changed in the ensuing months, however, with the dock still boasting the same ability to not only charge two iPods (or iPhones) at the same time, but playback each one through the unit's speakers or have each one go off at two separate times with the tune of your choice. Otherwise, you can rest assured that you'll be getting the usual FM tuner, as well as a standard analog audio input for your non-Apple audio devices and a video output for some larger screen viewing of your iPod's contents. If that sounds like just the dock you've been waiting for, you can snag one now for $150.

but, can it run Pro Tools?
Eli @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:20PM
Yes. Yes it can.
CarpeD1em500 @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:16PM
Why would you ever possibly need this thing?
bartoron @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:25PM
Because you need to listen to two different songs at once.
Ok, you're right. There's no point in having a two iPod dock.
SteveJ @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:25PM
Because you and your wife/husband/SO have ipods and it would be nice to have a place to charge both of them up at the same time or even not at the same time, and while you're at, being able to play music from one of the other, and without having to swap ipods and/or change "dock adaptors" in order to do all that? If it sounds good and works well, I can see buying one of these, if it can be found at a discount.
Mark Anderson @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:27PM
Because some people are really, really stupid?
r3loaded @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:01PM
My friend has a 30Gb iPod Video and an 8Gb iPod Touch (don't ask why). He might see potential in this if he hadn't already bought a speaker dock.
CarpeD1em500 @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:04PM
SteveJ:
Yes. Exactly! I have two ipods, and I have songs on both of them that I like to listen to so frequently that instead of a) putting all of those songs onto iPod playlist or b) simply unplugging one ipod and plugging in the other, I'm going to go out and buy a 2-dock iPod player.
I knew there was a use. Thanks. Sometimes I just need to see the world from the eyes of an educated scholar such as yourself to truly see the wonders of the world.
Jason @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:21PM
Because I like to party!
CraigJ @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:31PM
Now Mark, there is no need to tell us all of your affliction. I'm sure you can be stupid all by yourself...
Bevo4138 @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:18PM
This device is perfect for my expedition! We are going to build a bridge between both peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Other than that, unless you plan on Dj'ing a party for 5-7 people (and really don't want to be social, while you hide behind your "cool" Ipod DJ station), then there's not much to this.
Mark Anderson @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:36PM
Now, Craig, you can debate the point of this further but all I'll do is laugh at you.
Well, more than I am already.
Habitual Cheetah @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:26PM
Now why would someone need to have to iPods docked at the same time? Well besides for charging purposes.
gadgix @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:33PM
I could see the whole spouse thing. Me and my girlfriend are always fighting over whose ipod we use to listen to music when we are together. I don´t think I care enough to pay $150 for this thing, though. Seems like a rather frivolous expense.
Mike Roselli @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:35PM
How about DJ-ing? It would be nice to be able to set a song to play on the second one, then transition the volume (down from the current song, up from the second).
Hamidxa @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:49PM
That same effect can be achieved on a single device, not an iPod, but on other devices (such as WM based devices) through apps that have CrossFading, such as Pocket Music Player
cesium @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:53PM
lol who the hell DJs by manually crossfading ipods...
Big Wizz @ Jun 23rd 2008 2:54PM
If someone was to use this for DJ-ing, I would pull them out into the street and shoot them myself.
rob @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:11PM
they already have many iPod "dj mixers". one of them being http://www.numark.com/idj2. though, i would never personally buy one of these products. i'm sure people would laugh at you...
Vidit Bhargava @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:29PM
wow...DJ with a twin-ipod dock and you're gonna ROCK!!!
Habitual Cheetah @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:00PM
how would that be useful?
arash @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:06PM
question is not that.its why this apple stuff and cheap ipod docks is so important here?hey engadget i've seen some china fake plastic covers for ipod released by peddlers in our square.if u want i can give some spec and catch on hands reviews and pics from that pedlars.yeah thats realy a terrific and mania idea,we cand design a free ad for them with a apple symbol in right and place it above of all off your pages to have a good free(!) publicity for apple.sorry i'm drunk too steve!
psilver @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:06PM
I have been waiting for this for months! This is perfect for me and my wife. We can charge both iPhones at once at night and also use it as an alarm in the morning. Perfect! I'm buying one asap.
Tie M. @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:02PM
Who buys two iPods anyway?? Isn't one good enough? If there's not enough room on a 4GB or 8GB, shouldn't it be about time to clean some of the never-listened-to songs off?
rob @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:14PM
does this work?
DF @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:28PM
Yeah, well I'm gonna make one with three docks.
ddub @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:40PM
Too bad the name Mach 3 has already been used for something else.
Decoy @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:49PM
And I'll build a razor with three extra blades.
ace_spades @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:50PM
Internet on the ones with color screen?
Jello @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:18PM
I'm really trying to figure out a practical use for this.
James C. @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:19PM
when it says "iPhone compatible" does that mean one does NOT need to put the iphone in airplane mode in order to dock and listen? specs on JVC site do not mention this.
s @ Jun 24th 2008 10:56AM
yes, that is correct.
and fyi...this product has been out for over a month
Ethan @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:15PM
What a wonderful way to start arguments.
Frankie @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:49PM
I've been selling this thing for a while. These showed up on the truck at regional electronics chain where I work like a month ago. And we usually get things way after Circuit and 'Buy.
Okay, I lied. I haven't sold a single unit. Not for lack of trying though: "Ma'am how great is this, both you and your husband can charge your iPhones at the same time!"
... "Oh what's that? No I don't have any docking stations for a Creative Zen Micro..." :(
naz @ Jun 24th 2008 10:24AM
apple don't put Ethernet ports in some of there laptops (Air) let alone there iPods?!?
nick @ Jun 25th 2008 5:26PM
What is up with engadget readers? They always start fights over NOTHING!
